Good morning.

This morning I did Jane Adams Gentle Yoga for 18 minutes. Yesterday I went to the Farmer’s Market and did a little housework.

Hi everyone! I got to Nick's last night and Derek flew in this morning. We then went to the Dallas World Aquarium which is very cool. But, this area is just not for me. Saturday traffic late afternoon yesterday was so crazy and I don't want to know what a week day is like. Tomorrow we are planning to go to the zoo in Waco, but they along with 3 other TX zoos got the bomb threat call today. So, we'll want to verify that they will be open as it's a 1 1/2 hour drive.

I did do Live Fight for Awareness this morning which is part kickboxing and part no gloves drills. Got in a fair amount of steps at the aquarium, but because I was carrying something my arm was getting used enough to count steps.
 
We did a park walk this morning, 1 hr 20 minutes. way busier than a week ago although not many walking. still, we have to skirt around the campground so lots of barking dogs, screaming kids and smoke and generators. lots of birds in the mostly quiet rest of the park.

gotta say ive not been to texas but no desire to even visit. all big cities are not my favorite places anymore. seattle is bad enough and at least its not so blasted hot. traffic. and more traffic. congestion. just generally unpleasant.
 
Yesterday I did 70 minutes of Peloton rides and some PT work. Today I did a 45-minute Peloton ride, a 20-minute walk and 20 minutes of stretching.

Carolyn-Great job with Jane Adams Gentle Yoga. The Farmer's Market sounds nice.

Cathy-I'm glad you made it to Nick's. Great job with Live Fight For Awareness. That's scary about the bomb threats at the zoos.

Today I did Jessica Smith’s Pyramid Power Walk. That was 30 minutes, 172 calories burned, average heart rate 117, and maximum heart rate 155.

Valerie, nice job with the park walk. We lived in Texas for 7 years and I loved it there. Today’s Texas is very different from what it was in the early 80’s. I’m really glad that we didn’t retire there as we had planned.

Judy, great job with the Peloton rides, PT work, 20 minute walk, and stretching.

Cathy, I hope that you get to visit the Waco Zoo. We lived in central Texas near Waco and in San Antonio. I like those areas much more than Dallas.

Carolyn, I'm a heat wimp. i start having issues as it gets close to 80 degrees. totally weather driven! but politics has been a factor too. ive been thru Dallas/Fort Worth but thats a long time ago.

we rode the trail this morning. it was lovely. hardly anyone there. sunny mild lots of birds singing. no great wildlife finds but a total delight. its gotten more pleasant as people have gone back to work and the weekday population drops off. usual 15 miles. 1 hr 20 minutes.

Today I did a timesaver from LMR Functional Upper Body. That was 35 minutes, 87 calories burned, average heart rate 99, and maximum heart rate 128.

Valerie, your trail ride sounds nice. I like this time of year before it gets so hot.

Carolyn, i live where I live because it does not usually get hot here. or briefly if it does. I moved here when I was in my eary 20's because i hated heat and humicity. i dont tolerate hot temps well and never did. i overheat like crazy and dont sweat. I refuse to vacation anywhere hot. every time I went to Florida for a sales meeting I thought I would not live thru it! I've been to AZ, CA, Utah etc. many times but always go in cooler seasons. went to AZ once for a friends wedding when it was 116 degrees.. OMG it was terrible, even with AC going full blast .... intolerable. I remember the icing avalanching slabs right off the cake less than 10 min after it came out of the fridge. you wont hear me complain about cold since i get along fine with it. even very cold.
 
We were able to do the Cameron Park Zoo yesterday. Nice smaller zoo. Today we did Fort Worth. The weather was looking really dicey with potential storms a good portion of the day. Got there to be in line when they opened at 10:00 and it started raining lightly while we were in line and then it was lightly raining off and on and sunny (note there was no sun or even partial sun predicted all day) and then it stopped after about 1/2 an hour and stayed part sunny until close to 2-2:30 when there was a huge crack of thunder. But we were with Derek and some thunder is not going to stop in. By close to 3 storm was feeling noticeably closer, and Nick, who was driving, really wanted to get going. We were almost done anyway, so I told Derek we had to leave. Get out the exit and it starts raining, as we are booking it for the car it gets hard and we get in the car right before it really gets hard! Nick got us home and there was some pooling on the roads. Temp has now dropped down to 66. We are hopefully going to a Nature Center in the morning where we can hike. Valerie I totally get the no heat. We do get some hot/humid days in MI, but the majority of the year we are 75 or under. I also could never live in a city anywhere near this big. Fortunately, the 3 places Nick might go are all smaller. One in MI is a small town about 90 minutes from where we live, another is a similar size town in NE Missouri the other is DesMoines. Any of them will be better as far as I'm concerned.
 
Yesterday I did Live PHA Supersets, No Repeats and 10 minutes of stretching. Today I did a 30 minute Peloton ride and 20 minutes of physical therapy work.

Cathy-It would be nice if Nick could go to the place in Michigan so he could be closer to you.

Cathy i lived in Milwaukee for 20+ years, born and raised there. i hated the weather! the heat and humidity made me so miserable i up and left when i finished college and moved to Washington. it was a good choice for me and i am happy here. it gets too warm here occasionally but no place is perfect and anyway, now i can afford AC. Hopefully your sons will find reasonable places to live and work. big cities are not my favorites but they have to work that out for themselves. the job market will be a big factor.

we did a hike this morning, another park along the water. its a tougher one with a lot of uphill and downhill and took 2.5 hours. I'm pretty tired now. we last did it in late feb. didnt see any good wildlife today but lovely out and only saw one other person briefly.
 
Today we went to the Nature Center/Preserve. It's quite large and we hiked for 2 hours. Derek is now at the airport and Nick is on his way back.

Valerie it's funny Derek has no desire to live in a big city and when I asked he agreed that he wouldn't apply for jobs in such places, though that's where the largest zoos usually are. Though some place like Columbus is very big and sits outside the city. Where Nick ends up after med school is a complete unknown.

Judy Nick going back to MI would simplify a lot of things.
 
Today I did a 15-minute walk, then Live #314 PHA Supersets and I finished with 30 minutes of Restorative Yoga.

Valerie-Great job with your hike, that was a long one!

Yesterday I did KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix, workout one, 26 minutes, 154 calories burned, average heart rate 119, and maximum heart rate 138. I won’t be working out for the next few days. My two daughters are coming in today and tomorrow is the memorial service for my youngest. In between making various arrangements I’m still working on things related to both my husband and daughter. That’s going to take a while.

Valerie, nice job with the hike. I understand not wanting to live where the weather gets very hot.

Cathy, the Zoo and Nature Center sound like they were both nice despite the weather.

Judy, nice workouts this week. Good job with Live PHA Supersets, Peloton ride PT work, walking, and restorative yoga.

we mountain biked this morning. an hour and 25 minutes. an area we thought was temporarily closed was not, and it seemed like it was mostly unused with lots of tall weeds. when they log an area it's closed to recreation and after logging its an ugly mess for quite a while. they replant trees eventually and it takes an amazingly short time to grow and fill things in. its a business, they know how to do it. there's one killer hill in this section. the way it has to be ridden now, we go down the hill on the way in and up on the way out. we used to make a bigger loop but that doesnt exist anymore. it takes me 550 pedal strokes to get up that hill on the lowest gear.! its a killer, starts steep and feels like it goes on forever but if you pace it, its doable. not easy, but possible. we havent done this section in a while. they dont allow anyone to publish maps of the roads and trails so its up to each person to figure out a system that works. there are a few main roads and then a lot of the smaller roads and trails fluctuate.

Carolyn hugs to you. its good you have two girls to help you get through this very difficult time.

We did another ride this morning, our regular trail ride. an hour and 15 minutes. now I need a couple day break. we are packing tomorrow and driving sunday hopefully in between bad traffic days.

Judy im proud that i can still ride that hill. part of the issue is mental. what looks like the top of the hill is not, and its hard to realize that when you thought you were at the top, you arent. i got in the habit of counting pedal strokes so i didnt get misled again.
 
Yesterday I did LITE Body Weight and Bands and today I did P30 Low Impact Hiit and LMR2 Balance Fusion. Today I got gas and went to Trader Joe's to pick up some things and it's one of those typical tight parking lots on a busy road stores. Very glad mine is on a quiet side street with excellent parking. And even late morning on a weekday, it was very full. Have as much stuff in the car as I can, and we're getting up at 5 and will finish loading. Nick leaves at 5:30 for work and I'll be heading to Nebraska for the night.

Valerie that hill sounds very challenging and you should definitely be proud you can still do it.

I had a field vision test Monday and that was a long drive Monday. My husband and I went together planning to go to our favorite restaurant with Italian food and they were closed for lack of a manager for the first half of the day. Tuesday I had to be at the Arthritis center early for the first infusion which took a while because they had to go over all of the possibles and checks explaining things I have already ready. I did okay with it so far. Just dragging around today. They called me yesterday morning to check on me. I go back again next month. We have had some high winds and storms the last couple of days. One day everyone is sitting outside by the pool and the next we are wearing jackets.
Hopefully weather is good because my daughter and her family are going to a mountain 2 hours away to climb.
Today I did Lauren, Walking Cardio and Strength to the beat 33 minutes using 8# dumbbells for all but a shoulder section with scarecrow which I used 5's for, a 15 minute leg workout using 10# dumbbells, and a 20 minute Everyday Pilates//Core Strength and back pain, Total time 65 minutes, 268 calories. I am tired today. Feel like I am dragging myself through the day.

Valerie, nice job on getting in 1 hr and 15 minute ride. You are doing good with the rides and hill rides are tough.
