Pentagenarians & Beyond: March 15, 2026

I'm back. Yesterday I planned to go to my parents in the afternoon, but when I was still finishing my breakfast, the power went out. Killing the chance of a workout, so I headed to K'zoo just after 9:00. Crazy thing is that Friday was incredibly windy and created some power outages. The nearest one a few miles from us. Yesterday morning, it was sunny, and calm and out goes the power. I think we got caught up in the repairs they were doing because we all just became a bigger outage area. They said 10:30 a.m. but restoration is pretty much never when they say it'll be the first time. At 10:30, within a minute, I got a message from the energy company saying they were extending the outage till 8pm and the neighbor saying the power was back on LOL DH got home 20 minutes later and confirmed it was back on.

I've been following various FB pages since 2017 for the UP. Weather, news, NMU, road conditions, and I have never seen as many warnings to people as there were for the blizzard they are having. First time in 24 years that the entire UP is under a blizzard warning. They told people go out Saturday, and get what you need till mid week and do not except for absolute emergency go anywhere. It could be 2-3' up to 4' some places. Hopefully everyone stays put and there are few if any people stranded.

Valerie glad you didn't lose power. Tornados are early this year.

Judy great news that your mammogram was good.

Diane Sue I hope your dog adjusts to the new things fairly quickly. Animals can be very routine oriented.

Carolyn there are so many things to do when people pass, and hard to track down all of them.

I did my usual yoga/mobility today for 18 minutes.

Valerie, nice job with the park walk.

Diane Sue, great job with CDorner Kickboxing Cardio, Senior Shape Standing Abs with Standing Mobility Stretch, Senior Shape Dance Cardio and Upper Weights. Have you already moved out of your house?

Cathy, I’m glad that you made it back.

Hello to Judy.

cathy the storm you are having probably started out in the pacific and hit us first. out here its referred to as an "atmospheric river", stream of moist air from the south pacific that dumps a lot of moisture along with wind. we had the intense winds and a lot of rain, but especially in the mountains it was all snow. we had an inch or two of snow but the mountains got up to 7 feet over a few days. not great for skiing because the roads were closed and power was out. lots of crashes and falling trees and avalanches. the interstate was closed most of the time for two days. then it moved on to the east dumping nastiness as it went. its back to normal here now. it was blizzard conditions in mountains during the storm with zero visibility. we just had the wind and a little snow. Hope you get thru it with minimal power loss. my friend in MSP is digging out right now.

both yesterday and today we did the park walk. its an hour 15 of pleasantly steep up and downhill walking. its really muddy right now so it reduces the population to almost no one. we heard a few people today but didnt see anyone else. Ive gotten to really enjoy this walk. its much better than pavement and we see and hear some nice birds. loons this morning and a brown creeper both days. towhees and flickers and pileated woodpeckers. its great until it gets too busy .

Yesterday our power was out so I didn't do a workout.
Today I did a 30-minute Peloton Power Zone Ride and 30 minutes of easy riding, watching YouTube.

Cathy-That is similar what happened to us. We made it all day and evening Friday and thought we would be ok, then the power went out after midnight. They gave us an estimated restoration of today after 3:30 but fortunately our power came back last night.

Carolyn-Great job with your yoga/mobility.

Valerie-Great job with your park walk.

Hi to Diane Sue

Today I did Cardio Party, 39 minutes, 247 calories burned, average heart rate 122, and maximum heart rate 156. Our weather has been all over the place today. Since 5:00 a.m. we have had a severe thunderstorm warning, tornado watch, tornado warning, and now a winter weather advisory for possible snow!

Valerie, nice job with the park walk. It’s good that you enjoyed it in spite of the weather.

Judy, nice with the Peloton rides. I’m glad that your power wasn’t off for as long as expected.

Hello to Cathy and Diane Sue.

Today I did LMR 2 Elevated PHA Cardio and Core, 38 minutes, heart rate 107/136 and Elevated Timesaver #3 Anytime Mobility/stretch13 minutes, 56 calories. Total time 51 minutes, 228 calories. It was so cold outside last night and today. It got below freezing. Crazy going up to 80 and suddenly dropping like that. Not really abnormal here though. It is supposed to get to 90 later in the week. 28 last night and so windy. The neighbors power went out. The lights kept flickering here. My dog kept wanting me to go out and play ball with him and climb the hills in the cold.
My dog surprised me last night when I said it was time to go to bed he just ran and climbed into his crate. I think he is starting to adjust. I was not intending to put him in his crate though. We have just been letting him sleep by our bed so he does not cry all night. I just left the crate open so he could come out if he wanted to. He is venturing further into the woods. Thankfully there is a stopping point of wired fence with electric current to keep the dogs in. Theirs usually stays in without his collar, but yesterday they looked out the window and he was on the other side of the fence. he found his way back in thought and they put his collar on. Harvey has already figured out he needs to stay away from the fence. He has explored a lot and today went into another area. It is so quiet and peaceful here.

Cathy, sorry about the power outages. You are right about the dogs and routines. Mine knows pretty well when it is outside time, exercise time, meals at 5:00, purse out means I am leaving, dress up before usual exercise times means I am leaving. I am sure things will be fine. I was really pleased he does well with their old dog. I was afraid he would be all over him wanting to play. The other just makes a low noise and I tell Harvey no and he leaves him alone.

Judy, good job on the 30-minute Peloton Power Zone Ride and 30 minutes of easy riding watching YouTube. Sorry you had power outages.

Valerie, nice work on the walk and not as many people out. I think climbing up hills and rocks is making my legs sore. I can tell that my legs are not used to climbing.

Carolyn, nice work on yesterday's usual yoga and today's Cardio Party. We had tornado warnings go right over our house the night before the buyers signed the papers and closed. Thankfully it went over without dropping. We are settled at our daughter's house right now. We have a bedroom, bath, and downstairs living room. We want to get something that works for us without too much maintenance.

This morning I did STS2 Lower Body 2, Max 2 sets premix. When I ordered some of the clearance stuff, I got a weightlifting belt and after using it, I'm kicking myself for not getting one sooner. It's a huge plus.

Judy sorry that you lost power, too. There are so many people in MI without power in the northern lower and UP, worst is in the northern lower, some counties are near 80% with no power.

Diane Sue, I hope you find a place that works well for you. Having time to look thoroughly is always a plus.

Valerie I think the most snow I've seen for the storm in the UP is around 36" and that's in areas with people. Takes a bit to dig out of that! After us, it looks like the storm moved into Canada.

Carolyn your weather has certainly been all over the place.

our kitty learned our routines well. dog-like. he follows us around, begs for food and knows our routine. meets our car when we drive down the driveway. he gets fed his half can of soft food about 6:30 and reminds us if were late. he jumps in and out of cars and camper if we are working inside one and if we are oiutside when the mail truck drives up he doesnt run off and hide but sits right next to us where its 'safe . if we are outside, he hangs out with us. if we are working in the garden he shows up to "help". he has turned out to be just the kind of kitty I was hoping for. so glad i held out when DH was burning out on him. now that he can spend some time outside its much better. he has so much energy. he keeps rewarding us with moles and mice he brings to the door.

Diane sue i cant do knee bending exercises anymore, like squats and lunges. maybe after knees get replaced. up and downhill, even steep, doesn't bother the knees yet so i do it as much as i can. same for riding. i cant see how I can get thru another year without getting it done.

Today I did P30 Perfect Pump Upper Body, 38 minutes, 97 calories burned, average heart rate 95, and maximum heart rate 118.

Diane Sue, great job with LMR 2 PHA Cardio and Core and Anytime Mobility Stretch. It’s wonderful that you are able to stay with your daughter and take your time to find your next home.

Cathy, great job with STS 2 Lower Body 2. I’m glad that the weight lifting belt works well for you.

Valerie, I’m glad that your kitten has learned your routines well.

Waving hello to Judy.

Yesterday I did a 20-minute Peloton Upper Body workout and a 30-minute stretch. Today I did a 30-minute treadmill walk.

Carolyn-Great job with Cardio Party and P30 Perfect Pump Upper Body. Your weather was all over the place! That’s what they usually say about Michigan weather, that you can experience all 4 seasons in one day.

Diane Sue-Great job with LMR 2 PHA Cardio and Core and LMR2 Anytime Mobility Stretch. That’s great that you can stay with your daughter while you are looking for your new home.

Cathy-Great job with STS2 Lower Body 2, Max 2 sets premix. I usually use a weight lifting belt and I agree, they help a lot. I hope they get their power back soon in the UP. I can’t believe how much snow they got.

Valerie-That’s great that your kitty knows your routine. He sounds very smart and cute.

he is a really cute kitty and as long as he can go outside and burn off a little energy, everyone is happy. he climbs a lot of trees and big bushes,r right up the inside of rhododendrons. when we call him to come in, he rockets from where he is to come up on the deck. i have tried to video it because it is just hilarious to watch. from the far corners of the yard, he leaps over and under things, zooms under the fences and other obstacles and races up the stairs to the deck at 50 mph all because when he comes in he gets a couple greenies. usually cats act like they dont give a damn. he is so darn cute! i did a spin, pedal power a shorter pre mix. im able to stand while riding at least some of the time, whihc didnt happen for a long time. . Hope everyone gets thru this unpleasant weather soon. cathy hoping you didnt lose power and dont have too much snow to shovel.

Today I did Cathe Live #478 Low Impact Hiit with Active Recovery, 31 minutes, 198 calories, heart rate 126/149. I doubt I do that one again. Too much time on the floor and on my hands on those active recoveries. It is too hard to keep my back from rounding doing walk outs on hands anymore. I also did Elevated Balance Fusion 30 minutes, stopping after the ball bouncing while doing balance moves, 161 calories, heart rate 114/141. I finished with Senior Shape Mobility Stretch, 12 minutes.
Total time was 73 minutes, 416 calories.

Cathy, good job on STS 2 Lower Body 2 max 2 sets. I am hoping we are done with the cold weather for a while. Although they did have a forecast of 90 coming which is crazy for this time of year.

Valerie, it is endearing having our pets seem to really know us and want to be where we are. They obviously watch us a lot. I talk to Harvey and he will tilt his head sideways with those big ears standing up and watch my face, and I tell him how cute he is. His old fears seem to have disappeared, and he is not afraid to explore. He used to be afraid of things like the garden hose which made him jump and move back when he would forget and get near it. He used to crawl between my legs for protection. Not anymore. He waits for a hug when I give him food and gives me his paw to shake hands. My knee was puffy this morning. I did trip and land on my knees going up the terraced levels in back. I should have went around it. My dog scares me somewhat that he will get hurt. he loves running up the rock onto the top of the hill and flying back down. I was throwing a ball and he flew in the air and luckily flipped right side up at the last minute. I was sure he was going to land on his back. I took him out to the open area later to encourage playing.

Judy, good job on the 30 minute Peloton Upper Body and 30 minute stretch, and today's treadmill walk.

Carolyn, nice work on Perfect Pump Upper Body.
