Pentagenarians & Beyond: August 9, 2026

Today I did Jane Adams Gentle Yoga for 18 minutes.

Cathy, nice job with Killer Legs Barre. I understand your shopping dilemma. I haven’t been shopping for clothes in person in 5 years. I’ve been shopping my closet, but I’m getting to a point where I need to go to an actual store.

Hello to Judy and Valerie.

Have a great day everyone.

Yesterday I did a 30-minute Peloton Power Zone Ride and 45 minutes of Yin Yoga. Today I did a 45-minute Power Zone Ride and 15 minutes of PT work.

Cathy-Great job with Killer Legs Barre. I agree about the weather here. Rain was in the forecast all weekend but nothing so far.

Carolyn-Great job with Jane Adams Gentle Yoga.

Hi to Valerie

OMG in- person shopping! the horror, the horror!! haven't done that in decades. I would not have a clue where to start. " short" is never anywhere near short enough. a dress? havent worn a dress since maybe 1990. I dont even know what store to start with. Ive done on-line shopping forever and do well at it. a big portion of the stores i used to shop are not in business anymore. everything has gotten so casual. even shoes are hard because they will not have your size. I dont care what size you wear, they wont have it. I have some semi dressy sandals that are even comfortable..Keen "rose" something. dont know if they are still available but they were a good multi purpose shoe, casual or more dressy. I'll put in a link to them if i see them or something similar.

they are still around. i have black ones. price varies by color. they come in beige and gray and other colors. i wore them with some dressy black pants to weddings and funerals. i am long past heels and pointy toes and these have straps so they stay on. looking from above the boxy Keen toe is not that noticeable or that large, and besides, not much is worse than shoes that hurt. glad i got these.
they are my dress shoes for all events. you're way younger than i am though so you probably have more options.

ETA since i looked this up yesterday Im getting pictures of a lot of other brands that have similar sandal styles so maybe your data profile will do the shopping for you.!.

I wish we had rain in the forecast!. not even a drop. it is so terribly dry.. we rode the trail this morning for 15 miles and an hour and 15 minutes. I guess we all are hoping for rain.

Today I did P 30 Low Impact HiiT, 32 minutes, 160 calories burned, average heart rate 139, and maximum heart rate 160.

I once enjoyed shopping in person and browsing in stores. Now I want to avoid it as much as possible!

Hello to everyone and have a great day.

Today I did 40 minutes of Peloton Rides and a 10 minute Peloton Arm workout. Tomorrow I have a follow up appointment with my physical therapist for my hip and my shoulder.

Carolyn-Great job with P 30 Low Impact HiiT. I agree with you about shopping in person. Most of the time I prefer ordering online.

Valerie-Great job with the trail ride.

Hi to Cathy

I did PT this morning before i left, then did PT at the clinic for an hour. later i did a 10 min spin to warm up and then upper body exercises in sets of 16 for about half an hour. mostly bicep/tricep and a few chest presses. I dont think i can get more out of PT there so plan to finish up with maybe one more session. made appts to see physiatry and ortho in future. i hope not too far off.

that is the truth carolyn. i hate going into stores and trying to shop. not sure i ever liked it but there was no other option. Rooms to try things on were never great but now are awful or nonexistent. I have online stores like Title 9, Athleta, LlBean, Zappos, REI, amazon and do fairly well. not a lot of dresses there. maybe some very casual ones. Used to shop at Nordstrom but thats many decades ago. Malls have mostly gone extinct. I can get nice sporty things for DH at Costco but womens things are always way too long,

This morning I did P30 Perfect Pump Upper Body. My time was 41 minutes with 114 calories burned, average heart rate 102, and maximum heart rate 135.

Judy, great job with the Peloton ride and Peloton Arm workout. It’s good that you are going for the follow up physical therapy appointment.

Valerie, great job with spinning, upper body work, and PT. My online shopping is usually athletic wear for workouts and daily wear and shoes. I order from Nordstroms or Macy‘s if I want dressier things. I have so many things in my closet from work and related events that I haven’t ordered clothes in a long time.

Cathy, I hope that you are able to find the clothing that you want.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

We did a mt bike ride this morning, 1 hr 40 minutes. definitely WAY harder than road riding. hills. when we first start the ride its about 12 minutes uphill without a break. its not very steep and in a car not noticeable but on a bike you can tell, especially because you are right out of the car. a steady mild climb that gets steep the last 50- 100 yards. if I can get up that, i know i can do the rest. if we dont ride for weeks, like what happens in the winter some years, we need to take it in stages. we steadily go up at just under 3 mph. it takes endurance because the whole beginning route 3 miles is uphill, with some flat areas.

Today I did KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix, workout one, 26 minutes, 178 calories burned, average heart rate 126, and maximum heart rate 162.

Valerie, great job with your challenging mountain bike ride. It sounds tough.

Hello to Judy and Cathy.

Monday I did STS2 total Body Stretch and Live Weight Plate Abs, yesterday I walked at the zoo and went to my parents, and today I did IMAX4 and Live PHA No Repeats.

Can’t say I’m looking forward to shopping tomorrow. In the 80’s I should have bought stock in Jean Nicole! Shoe stores haven’t carried small sizes in years, though for basic flats girls shoes are possibility. When I “retired“ in ‘98, I started getting rid of my work clothes, and I didn’t keep any heels. Honestly, my shoes generally ended up under my desk during the day, unless I had to put them on. It’s going to be interesting. Need to start looking now though as I only have 3 weeks. I’m going to try the Eastwood Towne Center which is one of those not really a malls, with all outdoor entrances, but a lot of options. Plus the Apple Store is there and I need info on my poor laptop that has some issues.

I got retired unexpectedly in the early '90's. I wore mostly suits, pants suits and heels. and panty hose. always panty hose. i truly dont miss any of those things especially panty hose but I dont have good enough skin tone to go bare legged either. fake tans are the wrong color for me. so switched to pants and never went back. good luck with the shopping Cathy. I had a roommate 4'10" at meetings who wore size 5 shoes. even back then it was beyond hard to find anything. dont wait too long in case you need something altered, like shortened, to fit. or if you need to order shoes.

we planned to walk this morning but changed our minds when we didn't get going early enough. so DH power washed the garage floors and related garage clean up. my back was pretty sore today, not sure why but a while go i made an appt with orthopedics to look at my left hip. dont know if this is related to the back surgery, but its very unhappy a lot of the time and i need a more detailed opinion about whether anything can be done to fix it. I think there is a problem where hip back and leg come together but i need more imaging. not getting anywhere with PT.

Today I did a 45-minute walk on the walking pad. My physical therapist thinks I have a pinched nerve in my low back that is causing my hip and sciatica issues. He changed my PT exercises and I’m not going to be doing any squats, deadlifts, running or rowing for a while. He also said to only do planks for core work for now, no crunch or sit ups.

Valerie-Great job with spinning, upper body work, pt and your mountain bike ride. I love Athleta, it’s one of my favorite stores for active wear. For me it replaced the Lucy store, that went out of business back in 2017 or 2018.

Carolyn-Great job with P30 Perfect Pump Upper Body and KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix, workout one. Nordstrom and Macy’s are where we go for nicer dress clothes too.

Cathy-Great job with STS2 total Body Stretch, Live Weight Plate Abs, IMAX4 and Live PHA No Repeats. Good luck with your shopping!

This morning I did P30 Perfect Pump Lower Body, 31 minutes, 100 calories burned, average heart rate 101, and maximum heart rate 130.

Cathy, great job with STS 2 Total Body Stretch, Live Weight Plate Abs, walking at the zoo, IMAX 4, and Live PHA No Rest.

Judy, great job with 45 minutes walking on the walking pad. I’m sorry that you appear to have a pinched nerve in your low back.

Valerie, I’m sorry that your hip is still bothering you.

its my hip and my back, the areas are not far apart... its a little better today. later today i used cold packs after doing my stretches and they felt very good. im going to try something called dry needling at PT its a little like acupuncture which I never had either. im doing all the exercises available and its not changing much. getting worse gradually so will try this in 2 weeks. we were planning on traveling sunday. then yesterday bit into a little piece of chocolate and a tooth went crazy.. he saw dentist this morning. this office is absolutely wonderful fitting him in like that. he called them at 4:50 last night and hes in the chair at 9:30 today, he has an abscess they scraped out but its not clear what caused the problem. its possible the tooth is cracked or maybe we will luck out and its less significant and just a deep pocket that got infected... whether we go depends on if this gets better or worse over the next 2 days. its a front tooth so its a BFD. his teeth are challenging...... he tries so hard but bad care as a child is hard to get past.

Today I did JS One Mile of Motivation, 15 minutes, 113 calories burned, average heart rate 133, and maximum heart rate 147. Then I did Step Boss Chair Stretch for 16 minutes. We are having more days of dangerously hot weather with heat index of 107. We are accustomed to hot weather, but multiple days high nineties and high humidity makes it more dangerous. It feels awful when I step outside.

Valerie, I’m so sorry for your husband with that dental problem. It sounds so painful.

Hello to Judy and Cathy.

Yesterday I shopped and got lucky. When I bought groceries at Meijer, I looked around and found a dress and shoes! The dress is olive, which is not a fave color of mine, but it’ll do. Has adjustable spaghetti straps and is an okay length that will better when I adjust those. Shoes are dark brown flats with Velcro straps and girls size. They are slippery though so I need to figure that out. Came home and found a bolero style cardigan. I would be shocked if it’s not overly cool in the place the ceremony is being held. it says it’s arriving Sunday which I’ll believe when it happens as I don’t have Prime and usually things I order take at least twice that long.

Today I did LMR2 Elevated Total Body Metabolic. She goes crazy heavy in it, though she says up front that she’d be using lighter weights at times. A fair bit of it I was limited as much by my lit hands as the weight itself.

Valerie I hope your husband’s tooth is better. My Dad also has horrible teeth and i# missing quite a few. He has bridges he rarely uses, and refuses to pay for implants. He said at his age, 86, it was ridiculous. While disregarding that his parents both lived to 96. His problem is partly bad care when younger and a lot his candy addiction.

Carolyn I hope your husband’s can stay cool, it’s been far too hot across the country this summer. That kind of heat is so dangerous.

Judy how do you like your walking pad? It’s something I’ve thought about for the future.

its not perfect but he feels better so right now we plan to leave sunday morning. . we have spent a small fortune on dental care, implants, bridges and assorted root canals, and everything related. he has bad genetics and had bad care or no care as a child. he and one sister have almost identical dental issues developing abscesses for no reason in even the same place. I had decent teeth to begin with and dislike most candy, soda and other sweets. i am a much cheaper date for dental care! I got braces in my mid fifties but they were cheap compared to a lot of the procedures now commonplace. insurance even covered half the cost.

Cathy that is wonderful finding something so quickly. going from steamy heat to blasting AC is always a shock to the system especially if you get positioned near a blower. cardigan is a good idea,. we have had a lovely summer with very few truly hot days mostly 70-80. no bad humidity. unfortunately very little rain though and everything is tinder dry. that part is scary. so many fires everywhere and it may not get wetter for quite a while yet. usually now is about the start of fire season and its been going for more than a month already.

we walked the park this morning for 1 hr 20 min. the mosquito population was way less and the campground. two setsd of stretches already today. the campground did not allow fires or charcoal so it was nicer than usual for summer. lots of bird activity. we heard a ton of crossbills. really cool little birds with amazing bills but hard to actually see. they are in flocks and pop open cones with their weird bills but usually way high in the trees. so you hear them but cant see them. amazing adaptation to make getting seeds easier to reach. ill try to find a good pic if you've never seen them.

Yesterday I did a 45-minute walk on the walking pad. Today I did a 30-minute Peloton Upper Body workout and several PT sessions.

Carolyn-Great job with P30 Perfect Pump Lower Body, JS One Mile of Motivation and Step Boss Chair Stretch. Wow, that is really hot! I hope you can stay inside and stay cool during the hot weather.

Valerie-Great job with your park walk. I’m sorry about your hip and back and about your husband’s dental issue.

Cathy-Great job with LMR2 Elevated Total Body Metabolic. I’m glad you had good luck with the shopping. I love the walking pad. Here is the one I have:

FlexiSpot 2-in-1 Walking Pad Treadmill – 6 Modes, 264 lbs Capacity

It doesn’t have an incline, which I would be nice to have but it is light and easy to move around and was an inexpensive alternative to a regular treadmill.
