Pentagenarians & Beyond: August 24, 2025

when our house was built we were in a tearing hurry to get out of the house we were living in. it was our fault we did not see the kitchen problems. the builder messed up too. he planned a kitchen island and one of those awful grill/cooktops right in the center of it. I said "no" as soon as i saw it but in shuffling around the major appliances i lost a big section of cabinets. I didn't realize most others would not be reachable but we had to put a cooktop somewhere. ive made it work but i can barely reach the second shelf (sympathy cathy) and no way on the 3rd. it is the only cabinet for plates and bowls. i have other storage but it doesn't work for the dishes we use daily. there is no reasonable way to improve it. i never use the third shelf except for odd pieces i seldom use. i need the step stool to get there. luckily there were not a lot of things up there! nothing there now. I'm putting those things in the cabinet above the cooktop but i cant see up there either.

i always think people keep DL as picture ID even if they don't drive anymore. my mother learned to drive very late in life. my father had a major heart attack and she had no choice. she was an terrible awful driver. she got pulled over for doing something stupid and quit driving that day. it was better for everyone. there was no reason for her not learning sooner but she refused.

i haven't had to physically go to a DMV office in ages. its been mostly online for a long time. i may have to go in person for my next renewal in about 2 years. there's an office nearby. went there for some reason i don't remember. it was very efficient. no complaints.

we rode the trail again for 1 hr 15 minutes and 15 miles.

This morning I did a light workout, KCM’s Start Here, workout one. That was 31 minutes, 180 calories burned, average heart rate 122, and maximum heart rate 152.

Judy, great job with your workouts, Peloton rides, Killer Legs, 5 minute row before and after, and PT stretching. I have a mat similar to that under my spin bike, but not on the entire floor. Nice choice for your gym.

Diane Sue, great job with Killer Legs and CDorner stress relief stretch.

Cathy, nice job with Live Total Body Band Blast. I don’t mind the vision test for older drivers. I think it’s something that is necessary. It’s kind of scary when there are no checks at all.

Hello to Valerie.

Today I did CDorner Hi or low aerobics old school early 2000 music with standing abs at end, 39 minutes, 213 calories, heart rate 125/162, 4,659 steps. I then did Ice Muscle Meltdown biceps, 16 minutes, 85 calories, heartrate 111/139 finishing with STS 2.0 chair yoga 22 minutes, 52 calories. 77 minutes total 350 calories.

Woke up stiff and sore, something I really wasn't expecting from that band workout, since workouts like that don't typically make me sore. Especially my sides. So, I did Stretch Max with the ball which includes quite a bit of side stretching.

My MIL apparently didn't her license until she was quite a ways into adulthood, and she never drove much and she never drove on a highway. Just around her area for shopping, etc.

my mother was 60ish before she had to drive. father was about 11 yrs older. she drove to medical appointments and groceries using side streets and with my father in the car it probably was not pleasant. she was an awful, hesitant driver. i have no clue how she passed the drivers test. my sister and brother lived nearby so picked up the slack. then my sisters epilepsy got worse so she had to turn in her license. i had moved away decades earlier so it didn't fall on me to deal with it. cathy you are lucky your father is still ok to drive. does not sound like it would be a good idea for your mother.

Today I did CDorner Step # 488, 29 minutes, 159 calories, heart rate 116/144, 2,421 steps. I wanted to do triceps today so started with Muscle Meltdown triceps and did one round(too much on my chest and back), Pyramid Pump Triceps Superset, and added some band press downs and kickbacks, 19 minutes, 83 calories,
finished with a short CDorner Stretch 11 minutes 26 calories. Total time 59 minutes, 268 calories. I have been so tired lately. I am hoping when I am done with the prednisone that I will sleep better. I wake up too many times. The dog whines when my husband goes to bed. It woke me and I told him to be quiet so my husband could sleep and fell asleep for a little while in the recliner. I did not let him out of his crate because he needs to accept being in it at night. He does not like feeling abandoned. I got up again at 7 and took him outside because the lawn guy would be here soon. Then I went back to sleep for a little bit till mowing started. I need a full night sleep.
