Pentagenarians & Beyond: 9/29/2024

Just finished the Finished Step Combo workout I created awhile back. I've toyed with it over time, and I think this will be the final version. Party Rock'n Step 1 warm up, Step Sync finished product, which runs through them twice with blasts, Rhythmic Step Challenge, Step Blast Challenge, Low Impact Challenge combos, Party Rock'n Step 1 combos which are done twice, and then the stretch from that also.

My sister managed to get a message out yesterday. She's okay, has food etc. Her husband texted me at 6:30 last night said he was flying to Greenville because Charlotte has no rental cars and he was hoping to get back last night. That's the last I heard, so I'm hoping that means he got in. Sounds like they are being told up to 15 days to get power and cell back. Since I was leaving in less days than that, I'm pretty sure I'm going nowhere. I joined the Brevard FB group just to get info.

Carolyn great job with JS One Mile of Motivation and STS 2 Mobility 1.

Valerie I hope you have safe travels today. Great job with the trail ride.

Hi Judy and Diane Sue

Today I did my usual yoga/mobility for 18 minutes.

Cathy, great job with your Finished Step combos. It looks you have a nice personalized step workout. I’m glad that you heard from your sister and she is well. No, I don’t think you will be able to get there in the next few weeks.

Hello to Judy, Valerie, and Diane Sue.

Just finished Great Glutes No Compound. Hoping my sister gets another message out today. Looks like she's typing out things ahead of time and then uses her 4 minutes to send them out. Assuming her husband got in, since I've had no further word from him. They can get out to the south, so I'm wondering if they will start winterizing as much as they can and just head back to FL. Their house there is fine. She wasn't planning to go back for a few weeks, but I don't know that she has much reason to stay. I was going to plan out a new rotation for when I got back from NC, but I will just go ahead and work on that this week and start it sooner. Derek and I are going to Fort Wayne Zoo on Wednesday, my normal zoo walk day.

Carolyn great job with the yoga/mobility.

Today I am not working out. The HVAC technicians are here to replace a part and repair our upstairs system. This is the work that had to be postponed because of the hurricane.

Cathy, nice job with Great Glutes No Compound.

Hello to Judy, Valerie, and Diane Sue.

Made it to montana yesterday in just under 11 hours. as usual I feel pretty blotto today. our water heater is replaced and new one works great. we suspect there was something faulty with the first one but no one was able to figure it out. hopefully we are done with all water heater issuesforever!. this is a different brand and is more popular here so if something doesnt work its more likely to be fixable. if you dont live in a place all year round, its a lot more efficient without the big tank that needs filling and draining and can leak..

what a mess this hurricane ended up causing. growing storm intensity is a part of climate change we cant control. no clue how anyone could prepare for that kind of onslaught of wind and huge amounts of water, from rain, flooding and storm surge that goes with it.

The message from my sister this morning was that they are packing up and planning to head to FL in the morning. Biggest issue will be finding gas when they need it. And I checked their likely possible route and at least the first four hours is very windy twisty, one land and changes directions a lot. It says 4 hours for the first 138 miles! That's very slow going.

Valerie glad you made it to Montana.

Carolyn I hope the techs take care of all your issues.

Today I took my dog to the vet for shots and have him check over our problems. I did manage to come home and get in a workout. I did Raw Kickbox #6, 32 minutes, 180 calories, heart rate 139/165. I then did Flow with Myra, Upper Body Stretch that worked on neck, upper back, and some chest, 23 minutes, 37 calories. Total time 55 minutes, 217 calories. I talked to my brother in Florida and he only got some rain and was not affected much. I feel sorry for those people that have had so much devastation.
The bikes are put together and my husband has been out on his, but we need to see if we can lower my seat a bit or something. He is going to try a shorter shock absorber. I can only touch my toes to the ground. We need to do something with it. The bike specs said it would work for my height when my husband ordered.

Cathy, nice work with Great Glutes no compound moves. I never liked doing that one with the compound moves. 4 hours to get 138 miles is really slow going.

Valerie, glad you made it to Montana and the hot water heater is working well.

Carolyn, nice work on the usual yoga yesterday. I am sure you will be glad when the HVAC is repaired.

Hi to Judy

I did therapy work and stacked upper body. I dont have a lot of equipment here so this one works best. \
diane sue you should be able to get your foot half way to flat on the ground. it should be ok to stand when you stop or get started so you dont "high center" yourself. you want to get your leg over the top tube and stand. both my road bike and one one mt bike have a straight top tube. one mt bike has a slightly dipped one. getting going and stopping are the least stable times. you need to get a foot on the ground. I had trouble finding a frame that fits because my torso is very short and legs proportionately longer. Trek used to make frames for women. men tend to have longer arms/torsos and shorter legs. the seat post should go up and down.

water heater is great.! glad we bit the bullet and did it.
cathy best of luck to your sister. that sounds like a long nasty drive

Yesterday I did an hour of Peloton rides and 20 minutes of stretching/pt work.

Cathy-Great job with your Finished Step combos and Great Glutes No Compound. The step combo sounds really good. I’m glad you heard from your sister. Things are really bad. I can’t believe the devastation caused by this storm.

Carolyn-Great job with your yoga/mobility work. I hope the HVAC work went well.

Valerie-I’m glad you made it to Montana. Great job with the therapy work and stacked sets upper body.

Diane Sue-Great job with Raw Kickbox #6 and Flow with Myra Upper Body Stretch. I hope you can get your bike seat to the correct height.

Today I did STS 2.0 Giant Sets Total Body, express, bilateral only. My time was 40 minutes with 156 calories burned. Average heart rate was 110 and maximum heart rate was 139. The a/c repair is done with a new coil installed at no charge to us. This is one of the two new systems that we had installed last year.

Valerie, I’m glad that you made it to Montana and the new hot water heater is working well. Great job with Stacked Sets Upper and therapy exercises.

Cathy, I hope that your sister can make it back to Florida safely.

Diane Sue, great job with Raw Kickboxing #6 and Flow with Myra Upper Body Stretch. That’s good news about your brother.

Judy, nice job with the hour of Peloton rides and 20 minutes of stretching.

Have a good day everyone.

My sister and BIL made if back to their house in FL at 2 a.m. this morning. She said the first 30 miles down the mountain had its moments. I called and talked to her for awhile, she said she would not have tried it on her own with the dog. The dog who panted all the way to FL even sitting next to her in the backseat. There were areas where only one side of the road was usable and some where downed wires were angled across the road and only high enough to drive under because they were caught on trees. Though they weren't anywhere where part of the road was gone, it was just covered be trees. No workout for me today as I did my famous can't fall asleep/wake up early routine and slept about 3 1/2 hours. May be able to do something tomorrow though as Derek doesn't want to leave till 11:00 for Fort Wayne. Zoo is open till 6. He wants to sleep in. Because of his trip to CO he's worked 7 of the last 8 days.

Carolyn great job with STS 2 Giant Sets Total Body Express. Glad your repair is done.

Judy great job with the Peloton ride and stretching.

Valerie great job with the therapy exercises and Stacked Upper Body.

Diane Sue great job with Raw Kickbox #6 and the stretching.

Did a mt bike this morning, the easy one we usually start with so I can acclimate a little. it goes up a canyon thats always cold to start and a lot warmer after a couple miles.
his is an uninteresting time of year here. still warm and dry so most critters are up in the higher mountains. we didnt plan to stay long but needed to get the water heater business settled, and winterize things. I am doing cataract surgery soon. it involves a lot of short appts spread out over a long time period. I could put this off longer but Im starting to notice haziness so winter is a good time. and my rt knee is becoming a bigger issue. I think it will need replacement in not too long. sigh... getting old is a bitch.

Today I did CDorner Defined Arms Dumbbells & Loop upper body (wish instructors did not say arms and do things like back and chest) This was 34 minutes, 97 calories,97/129 heart rate. I followed this with CDorner Balance & Stretch which was half balance standing other than bird dog hold then stretching, 28 minutes, 44 calories. Total time was 62 minutes, 141 calories.

This morning I did KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix, workout two, 29 minutes and 215 calories burned. My average heart rate was 136 and maximum heart rate was 175.

Cathy, I’m so glad that your sister made it safely back to Florida. When I see the road conditions there I don’t know how people can get anywhere.

Valerie, nice job with the easy mountain biking to acclimate to the area.

Diane Sue, great job with CDorner Defined Arms Dumbbells & Loop upper body and Balance and Stretch.

Hello to Judy.

Today I did CDorner Step and Sculpt Full Body, 5 minute cardio with 3 minute weight segments, 44 minutes, 250 calories, heart rate 140/169, 3, 319 steps. I then did CDorner Booty Burner bands and dumbbells, 26 minutes, 91 calories, heart rate 108/139. This used dumbbells with fabric loop bands and was a real burner. I used the heavy band and 15# dumbbells. Chris used a 20#. Holding that much weight at my chest for so long makes my back hurt even if I am doing good form. I finished off with Raw 20 minute stretch, 25 calories. Total time was 90 minutes, 366 calories.

Valerie, nice work on Stacked Upper Body and Therapy and yesterday's Mt bike ride. I was told at one of my field vision tests that cataract surgery is quick. I eventually will have to do that. My brother is getting his other knee replacement in November. He got the first one before he got Medicare and has waited because his insurance did not pay for all of the first one. I do not know a lot about bikes. When my husband mentioned getting bikes I expected a regular bike, and he ordered us two of the same electric bikes with two motors, huge wide tires, and kind of intimidating for me. I wish he would have ordered the smaller one for me. I could get most of my foot on the floor before he put the shock on it. It a shorter shock doesn't work, we may try a bicycle shop for help. Of course they are all on the other side of the city. I am trying to be positive about the whole thing.

Cathy, I am glad that your sister and brother in law made it home. What a mess that all is.

Carolyn, good job on nice work on yesterday's STS 2 Giant Sets express bilateral and today's Cardio Quick Fix. I kind of like the unilateral moves. I have not tried some of those premixes. I am glad you air unit is fixed. You wouldn't expect that new of a system have problems. I am so happy to have good air conditioning after the ones at our last home. I have someone come out every spring and clean it and check. I did have to have a capacitor fixed this year.

Judy, nice work on the hour of Peloton rides and 20 minutes stretching PT work yesterday.

We did a 3 hr hike today. would have been longer but we came across a grizzly. we could not tell which way he was going. he seemed to be working toward the trail so we turned around there. we were nowhere near him. it was a lovely day and we saw way more animals than expected. doing another hike tomorrow.

diane sue getting a bike the right size helps a lot. there are a lot of factors that are in play. wheel sizes have changed recently for example and 29 inch wheels are most common. the bikes they fit on are too big for me. I got a 27.5. every manufacturer seems to size things differently and I only know about non electric bikes. frame sizes are different so that the distance from seat to handle bars can vary. a decent bike shop can adjust components on non electric bikes but its easiest to try to get ther fit close to begin with and then make little adjustments. my dh is about 5'6" and Im about 5'2". we cant comfortably ride the same bike. his torso and arms are longer. I cant reach anything on the handle bars. my legs are longer. when you pedal your leg should not go completely straight, should have a little bend in it. I have been riding a bike of some sort since I was less than 5 yo so if it doesnt fit, I can tell. my bikes don't have shocks. I step over the top bar and put my right foot on the right pedal, push forward on the ground with my left foot and sit onto the seat and pedal. I get off with left foot down first, slide off the seat and put down right foot. for me its like riding a horse. on and off on the left. I am right handed. I cant get on from the right side. bikes always need things, and a bike shop is a good place to know. dont know how much of this applies to an electric bike.

Today I did Boss Loops Glutes and Core. My time was 56 minutes with 204 calories burned. My average heart rate was 108 and maximum heart rate was 138.

Diane Sue, great job with CDorner Step and Sculpt Full Body, CDorner Booty Burner bands and dumbbells, and Raw stretch. It’s very frustrating to have problems with the new systems that we‘ve only had for a year. I find that newer items just don’t have the same quality regardless of the brand. Good luck with the electric bike.

Valerie, great job with the 3 hour hike.

Hello to Cathy and Judy.

we did another hike this morning. 5-6 miles not complicated. elevation is around 6500 feet though so even if its relatively flat it gets your attention. about 4.5 hours but we took a good hour sitting at ponds watching ducks and other scenery. weather is too darn nice so it's getting busier. lots of people drive here if there is a good forecast.

diane sue if you are a lot shorter than your husband you may be trying to get something that's too big to fit. your height/ proportions, how long your reach is with arms torso. I am totally guessing here since dont know how tall either of you are. if you haven't ridden it maybe you can downsize with an exchange. dont pay attention to me if this is not the case. my bike fits as well as it can but I still had cheater brake levers on the handlebars. the ones on the drop down bars are hard to reach. I can but I like the higher ones better. the world is designed for bigger people!

Today I had so many things going this morning, like getting help getting on my bank account, bill paying, and online shopping for groceries, fixing my husband a late morning breakfast as he went from work to getting a work physical and fitness test. Poor guy was tired. Anyway, I got in a short workout this afternoon. I did Raw Cardio Crush, first 4 tabatas and last tabata that was abs, 29 minutes, 144 calories, heart rate 130/167. I finished with Raw Yoga Stretch, 14 minutes, 23 calories.

Carolyn, nice work on Boss Loops Glutes and Core. It is a shame that quality has went down. Those air units cost a lot. One of my friends had a new unit put in and it was not working right. They called them back and they had put it in backwards. The air flow was not right.

Valerie, the tires are 4 inch wide and 26". I think if I remember right, you are about the same as me in height. I am 5'4 shrinking slightly as more doctor's offices are saying 5'3. My husband is 6'I" think if we can drop the seat down a bit I would be okay. I could touch the floor flat footed barely before we put the shock absorber spring in there. My husband got a shorter one. We will see if it fits. I went and looked at the stuff with the company and we cannot send mine back. Requirement is they come back in the same packing material that they came in. They shipped from California. They have a short time period for returns and we still have not received the racks that were supposed to come. I cannot follow that on Amazon because they just sent a seller to customer message that the racks would ship out around Sept 27th to 29th. My husband rode the bike through our neighborhood to make sure the brakes (front and rear) and motors and everything works right. The break levers are on the handlebars. I think that I would be on and off on the left foot too. My right side is my lack of balance side anyway. Same when I get on my spin bike. I am probably just worrying too much and once I get going I will wonder why I worried over it so much.
Nice work on the 5-to-6-mile ride.
