good morning . nice out this morning but cold. will road ride shortly. hopefully will get to 40 by then.

a car crash was a bigger deal way back then. my parents didn't have much money. I cant remember what car I was driving when I had my ice adventure. might have been parents car or maybe my first car, a '59 chevy. cars were not as good back then. no AWD or anti lock brakes, seat belts, etc. and they didnt last long with all the salt on the roads. cars were rusted thru in a few years.
mostly, kids need to become aware of how other people's bad driving can impact them, and as best as possible, to always look and plan for worst case scenarios on the road when conditions are bad. it sounds like you've raised sensible kids.

did the planned road ride this morning. 1 hr 20 minutes. 37 degrees to start but warmed up fairly quickly. not warm, but warmer. sun was out and that helps even if air temp is not great.

This morning I did 30 Minute Kickbox Express and then some planks. Already have my workout set up for tomorrow. With all the equipment and weights, I find it's just easier to do it the night before. Especially for the upper body workouts. STS lower body doesn't have as much equipment.

Sunny and actually hit 32 here today. Hoping the road is clear again by Thursday. You can already see some pavement.

Valerie so glad you were able to get in a good ride today!

Carolyn nice job keeping up with the yoga.

Today I did All Out Low Impact HiiT, no disc cardio premix. That was 33 minutes and 232 calories burned. Average heart rate was 130 and maximum heart rate was 162.

Cathy, great job with Kickboxing Express and planks. It is helpful to get things set up for a weight workout the night before. I did that when I was working because it saved time in the mornings.

Valerie, that’s great that you were able to ride yesterday.

Hello to Judy and Diane Sue.

Disk 10 Shoulders, Chest and Biceps today. Last round of that for Meso One. There will still be pushups, but not so darn many when I move on to Meso Two!

Carolyn great job with AOLIH! That's a good workout.

Valerie I hope you are able to get out and do something today.

Diane Sue, hope your rehab is going well.

Hi to Judy and Lori!

didn't clear off until too late to do anything outside so did the elliptical for 50 min followed by x train abs and several sets of curls and push ups. the weather forecasters are always painting too optimistic a picture and reality is the next morning. today is less damp so we will mt bike this morning.

we've been watching Ozark, a really fascinating series. saw the beginning several years ago so yesterday I re-watched the first episode. (Netflix). generally there is graphic violence, and several of the characters speak primarily in f-bombs, especially Ruth. It is a fascinating series. will watch the whole thing again before the last part airs sometime this fall. We don't get regular cable. stream netflix, prime, hulu. Ive gotten to like series way more than movies. its apparently where all the good script writers have gone.
Anyone else watching anything good? assuming we won't all like the same thing, but there are so many choices its easy to overlook good things.

This morning I did Stacked Sets Upper Body for 37 minutes and 204 calories burned. Average heart rate was 121 and maximum heart rate was 156.

Cathy, you are making nice progress with STS. Great job.

Valerie, hopefully your weather will improve soon. Nice job with the elliptical, XTrain Abs push-ups and curls. I am watching Succession which is on HBO or HBO Max. It’s been on a few years, but I just started. It’s definitely full of profanity and sex, but it’s fascinating for some reason. The characters in the very wealthy family around which the story is centered are all terrible human beings, but it works. I hadn’t watched it before now because I thought that I would hate it, but the opposite was true. I was hooked after the first episode. My husband just watched the full season of Reacher which just started on Prime on Friday. It’s based on the books by Lee Child. I have read all of the books over the years, but I only saw part of episode 1 of the series. My husband watched all 8 episodes in two days!

Waving hello to Judy and Diane Sue. Have a good day everyone.

back from our ride, 90 minutes. a little muddy and not sunny but still a pleasant way to get cardio done.

Carolyn you will probably like Ozark too if you have access. there are 4 seasons and the 4th season is two parts, only one available now. it will finish later this year.
we saw part of Succession but I can't remember how we got it without HBO. Yes... terrible hideous awful human beings! flawed but fascinating to watch in hands of a good writer and good actors. I always hesitate (a little) to recommend when the dialogue is so "colorful". f-bombs and violence are not a substitute for a good story and good dialogue, but I don't exclude because of them. our viewing of Succession was so broken up... I'd love to see it in one piece from the beginning.
we have not looked at Reacher yet. I didn't like the one with Tom Cruise. a movie? I didn't last long on it but I never read the books so I didnt have a preconceived idea of what Reacher would be like. .

we are watching some of the Olympics now so will be putting off some series for a little while. we started one last night called "Trust" about the Getty family. Only one episode so far but it looks very promising. Donald Sutherland is the older Getty and what a disgusting jerk he is.

Another q2uestion for everyone... I have never had an e reader. I am thinking about one for my birthday. mostly for travel. what are the good points and drawbacks? I remember Deb had a Nook but thats the only reference I have. especially when traveling I ended up using up a lot of data just for things to read. TIA for any input.

Valerie, I hated Tom Cruise as Reacher. He didn’t fit the description of the character at all--Reacher is a big guy. I think that you can see Succession on Hulu. I was hesitant to mention it, but the characters are fascinating. I just started season 2. I have a Kindle that I have had for years. I prefer reading on the Kindle over my iPad, but that’s just me. Probably because I had a Kindle first. Either would work.

I did the IMAX workout I put together and Ab Stacker this morning.

I don't currently have access to anything that I can't stream for free, or what our TV picks up locally. Considering getting Sling Blue, but I just don't know that I would use it enough to justify having it. I'll get Netflix again when they finish releasing Season 7 of Grace and Frankie. All they say is early 2022. When I do that, there's a couple other things I want to watch and I'll ditch it again.

I got a Kindle years ago and I...um...may have hundreds of books. Plus I get ebooks from the library. I ditched the actual Kindle years ago and just have the app on all my devices. Love how easy it is to take all my books with me. Plus at one point I was adding free books, usually first in a series kind of thing, and if I ever run out of things I want to read, I can sort through and find those. It allows me to put books in collections, so all my favorite authors have there own folders. Love that they take up no extra space and don't use paper. Books are often run on special. A series that I started reading through the library and then started buying, has the final book being released next month and a bunch of the early books are on sale for $1.99. I have book wish lists on Amazon, and I can do a quick look for books on sale.

Valerie great job with the Elliptical and abs yesterday and getting in the 90 minute ride today! Hope the weather keeps allowing you to get out.

Carolyn great job with Stacked Sets Upper Body!

I got caught up with work and other things this weekend and didn't get a chance to post. Yesterday I did KCM CardioFit, both workouts. I also did Power Splits, Upper only and added on the lower body finisher. Tonight I did a longer restorative yoga session after work.

Valerie-Great job with the rides and elliptical. I have a kindle, and like Carolyn, I prefer reading on it over the iPad. The Kindle app works well too though. I prefer using reading with an e-reader over physical books. The good points for me are the light makes it easier to read and you don't need an extra light source, all of my books are in one place, and it's easy to travel with. The only drawback I can think of is the need to keep it charged.
We are currently watching the The Beatles Get Back series on Disney Plus. We subscribed just for that series but it's only $7.99 a month so we might keep the subscription if we find some other things we like. We've only watched the first episode (there are 3, a total of over 8 hours) but we like it so far. If you've seen the Let It Be documentary, this one goes so much deeper and shows a more positive view of the interactions and relationships.

Carolyn-Great job with All Out Low Impact HiiT, no disc cardio premix and Stacked Sets Upper Body.

Cathy-Great job with 30 Minute Kickbox Express, STS Shoulders, Chest and Biceps and IMAX with Ab Stacker. You are making great progress with STS!

Hi to Diane Sue

We get zero tv reception without cable, dishes don't work at all here. we try different things added on to basic cable. it is the only "choIce" whihc makes it not really a choice. using a package from utube tv that works for both houses, here and Montana. It's expensive but works for one fee at both places. We can turn on tv there and pick up right where we left off in a series in WA. Amazing! We could not get news on cable in MT, national. we tried u tube in WA for a while, and then in MT. it works. however, you can see the trend.... streaming specific movies and series costing extra besides the flat enrollment fee.

I’m going to try kindle . Can’t tell how it will work for me without trying . thanks for the input. I may have questions after I get it which won't be for a while.
Judy, Dh does not care for the Beatles much. not sure he will go for that. I’d watch it If accessible at some point. they arent my favorite but I do like them.

xc skied this morning. 2.5 hours. not the best conditions, but a lot of work to get around the fallen tree obstacles. had to walk a lot and carry skiis.

This morning I did Cardio Quick Fix workout one. That was 26 minutes and 193 calories burned. My average heart rate was 132 and maximum heart rate was 156.

Cathy, great job with your IMAX workout and Ab Stacker. We have Cable and my husband loves television. He likes the many options available. My daughters all have streaming subscriptions and the oldest doesn’t own a television. She watches everything on her laptop, something I hate doing. I am more of a reader than my husband and television is background noise to me. Occasionally I will decide to look at something specific as I’m doing now, but I don’t watch multiple episodes at one time.

Valerie, I think that you will like the Kindle. They have so many options now that you will need to decide how you plan to use it.

Judy, great job with Cardio Fit and Power Splits. I’m glad that you still find time to post here.

Diane Sue, I hope that you are making progress with your recovery.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

Today I did a 45 minute Peloton Power Zone ride. I ordered a few of Cathe's new products and they arrived today. I got the barbell collars, weight lifting gloves and weight lifting gloves with wrist support. I'm really happy with everything. The gloves fit perfectly and the quick release collars are half the price that I paid for my old ones that I had ordered from Amazon several years ago.
Work seems to be taking up more of my time lately. A couple of my co-workers just went out on medical leave (not Covid related) and I'm helping cover some of their hours. I'm working both garden and paint for the next few weeks.

Valerie-YouTube TV looks good. I think you will like the Kindle.

Carolyn-Great job with Cardio Quick Fix, workout one.

Diane Sue-Hope you are doing well

Hi to Cathy

Did Disk 11 Back and Triceps this morning. Only one more Meso One workout to go! I've never understood why she flipped the workouts around in Meso Two, and always just kept legs as the third, but I may put it in the middle like it's supposed to be this time.

I had one of the original Kindle's with no backlighting and when it started getting old and slower, I just opted to go with the apps. I rarely read on my phone unless I end up being stuck somewhere and it's my only option. Once and awhile on my MacBook Air, and that's usually if I'm reading two books at the same time. My iPad is my go to and my case sets up at a slant to make it easier.

I just can't see myself watching enough TV to justify paying for it all the time. If DH was still going to work, I would, but with him plopped in the living room 5 days a week, it just cuts out a good portion of the time I'd use it and when I do watching something I either have to go to the basement or use headphones. Far more pluses for him working at home than for me! LOL

Judy great job with the workouts this week! Glad to hear that you like your new Cathe products. I really want the mat for the step, but that's on hold for now. I really need new tires in the next few weeks and I really don't want to deal with it.

Valerie glad you got to XC ski today, though it certainly sounds like you got extra work out it! Streaming services are definitely a plus when you are in multiple locations.

Carolyn great job with Cardio Quick Fix! I have definitely been known to binge watch series!

Valerie, I saw in the WSJ that the company who bought Eating Well magazine is going to discontinue the print magazine. They are ending that one as well as several other publications.

carolyn, bummer on Eating well going bye bye. my last magazine! I get recipes online so all digital wont change much. I liked an actual magazine to read every other month. oh well. print things are dwindling.

I dont fly often. if you get the Kindle app, you can download books to the phone but can't picture reading a book happily especially if I use up my charge, which I may need for directions when I get off the plane. I keep using up data on trips, so kindle would also help. we worried about security issues at the condo we rented. sitting on the phone reading left us open to hacks and sucked up data besides.
we drive really long days. a kindle would be handier than a book. reading while driving? I'll see.... I read on iphone all the time, especially newspaper. I find the small left to right columns in newspapers easy. not sure about wider pages. the only way is try it. we have an old ipad. don't think it will update anymore. I never liked using it because it was so deadly slippery. sitting in a moving car is different than in your bedroom.
Judy I have weight gloves with wrist support that look identical to the ones cathe is offering. I love them! I've had them a year or two.
DH and I watch the same thing in the evening on TV although sometimes are disagreements. he clicks thru things so fast I can't tell what stream we're on. Tv in the exercise room.... we go our own ways. cathy... wait for retirement! that will be a jolt to the system.

This morning I did Stacked Sets Lower Body for 40 minutes and 182 calories burned. Average heart rate was 114 and maximum heart rate was 141.

Judy, great job with the Peloton Power Zone ride. I haven’t really looked at Cathe’s new fitness products. I ordered new resistance tubing not long ago and I am trying to resist buying more equipment.

Cathy, nice job with disc 11 back and triceps. Yes, having a spouse home all day really changes things. Our routines and spaces get turned upside down!

Valerie, the loss of print media makes me sad. I read the newspapers on my iPad but I also like having physical items sometimes. The remaining magazines and newspapers are much smaller versions of themselves. I don’t buy digital cookbooks which just doesn’t work for me. I like to browse cookbooks for ideas. I have been collecting them all of my adult life! I always bought regional books from the different places that we lived and it has grown from there.

Hello to Diane Sue.

carolyn I don't like losing print media either but am resigned to it. I feel like a holdout for keeping my newspaper subscription going. I prefer paper over digital, which I use when we are traveling. I like both! I always used to buy local newspapers when I visited an area. you could get a feel for things right away. I quit buying papers on our travels. they end up being several dollars for nothing but ads. one reason we signed up for u tube tv. we can get decent news. so many people live in news deserts where there are no decent news sources anymore. facebook is not news! I use it for what its useful for but not wasting time and getting irritated with all the obnoxiousness that lives there. if I lived in MT full time I'd subscribe to the digital paper but for our spaced out visits, not worth the cost. I look at the bigger stories and use up to my max.

no workout yesterday but a busy day. we are road riding this morning. expect to go to MT this weekend.

Disk 12 this morning and bye bye Meso One! Schools around here were closed today due to icy roads and then it went above freezing very quickly. We're into the upper 30's now.

Once you have something downloaded on your kindle app you don't need to use data. Just turn your data off for the app. I also don't think it uses much battery. Certainly not as much as things with audio, video do. I believe there are some types of portable chargers you can carry on planes with you. I know when my sister flies FL to CA she often works while she flies. I'm the opposite when it comes to wanting stuff on paper. I'm pretty minimalist and having everything on my devices means less stuff around. Trust me DH has enough for 4 people!

From my sister:
The short answer is yes, you can take portable chargers on planes but there are stipulations regarding the wattage and where they must be stored to be allowed on a plane. Your portable charger must be packed in your carry-on luggage, they are not allowed to be in checked bags. Also a lot of planes have USB plug in ports by the seats.

Valerie I hope you got in a great ride this morning! Definitely not looking forward to DH retiring. He gets bored WAY too easy. He's determined that he can't retire till 67 (5 years away) and I'm not going to discourage that thought.

Carolyn great job with Stacked Sets Lower Body! And yeah our house is small and he works in the living room, so when he's talking to people and somedays that's a lot, I can't make a lot of noise, which makes doing stuff in the kitchen, vacuuming etc not things I can do when I naturally would.
