Pentagenarians & Beyond: 12/15/2024

Yesterday I did a 45-minute Peloton ride, a 20-minute row and 20 minutes of restorative yoga. The next couple of weeks are going to be a little busy for us between appointments and holiday events.

Diane Sue-Great job with LMR Barre Fusion, LMR Total Body, and the Anytime Restorative Yoga bonus.

Cathy-Great job with STS Disk 31 Chest and Back. I also learned to type on the electric typewriters in high school.

Valerie-Great job with the Park walk, therapy work and upper body. I’m sorry about the computer and other technical issues.

Carolyn-I hope you had a very nice rest day.

Shannon-Great job with LMR Total Body. I really like that one too, it might end up being my favorite workout from the series. I’ve been using foam rolling a lot with my PT and it does seem to help but it can be very unpleasant.

This morning I did the recent Live Cardio Core and Onto the Floor. I really liked that one. Then I did the Restorative Yoga again which I also really like. Put up the tree yesterday. First time I've done a tree by myself in a long time.

Judy great job with the Peloton workouts. I had typing in middle school, by the time the boys were in school it had moved down to elementary school and they were using some type of computers from kindergarten onward.

Valerie I'm glad you got your walk in before the rain and great job with the therapy and upper body work. I'm sure you'll be happy to see the last of the Dell computers. I'm an Apple girl through and through and it's been over 25 years since I've had to use any other kind of system.

Carolyn that's really cool that your group has lasted 25 years.

Shannon great job with the LMR Total Body and LMR Yoga and the Lower Body Foam Rolling Bonus. I'm mixed on Foam Rolling. Certain areas like sore quads I find it really helpful for, but other areas not so much. I really like the Restorative Yoga, long poses and lots of deep breathing. I'm thinking I'll do a couple weeks of the rotation for the new workouts when Nick's home with the cardio added in, and then I want to do a combo of STS 2 and the new workouts. I'll have to figure that out on my own. Was hoping it would be one of the rotation options for the new workouts, none of the ones using other series really appeal to me.

Hi Diane Sue enjoy your day.

we thought we would walk this morning but no enthusiasm today so we are painting the bathroom instead. always takes more time than you think it will. otherwise its ready for the plumber who is next. dont have a date yet but probably before xmas.

we are having second thoughts about the kitty. wow, he is friendly and in our faces all the time. we've had several cats before and it was a smoother process. he is "returnable" to the shelter we got him but we would feel bad about doing it. he is extremely friendly and underfoot every second. he's 1.5 yrs old so pretty young but our last cat was 2 and a lot more mellow, very soon. all were indoor/outdoor cats but with this one we were hoping to be indoor only. its like he needs another kitty to play with but we didnt want two 2 cats. if anyone has any thoughts, i'm open to them. its not as if he's mean or nasty but actually too friendly. on your lap and kneading and snuggling constantly.

cathy we both like apple products a lot and use apple phones and laptop. desktops weve never switched over. dh bought a mac a few yrs ago to do photos mainly but its hard to make the switch if you used windows products for decades. . his current desktop is worse by the day so that decision will get made for us. its up to him if he wants to use it or get another relatively inexpensive windows system.

Good morning. Today I did my regular yoga/mobility for 18 minutes.

Shannon, nice job with LMR Total Body, Yoga, and Lower Body foam rolling.

Judy, great job with your 45 minute Peloton ride, 20 minute row, and 20 minutes of restorative yoga.

Cathy, great job with Live Cardio Core and Onto the Floor and Restorative Yoga. Putting up a Christmas tree alone can be hard if you need to do lights. Our trees have lights which makes it a bit easier. Once the tree is up I enjoy arranging the ornaments.

Hello to Valerie and Diane Sue.

I’ll write more later. On my phone now, which is a pain. But wanted to reply to Valerie about the kitty. Maybe give him a little more time to get settled in? He may be so underfoot because he’s afraid his new humans will disappear. I adopted a dog from a shelter once who was like that and was glued to my side. But as she became more at home, she relaxed. I know cats and dogs are vastly different though, LOL. That was just my immediate thought.

Valerie-your kitty sounds a little like Shadow. I also agree with Shannon, he probably needs a little longer to get settled in. We found that having 2 cats really helps as they keep each other company. Some cats do better being the only pet but others seem to like the companionship. He may still be in the kitten stage too. Chino and Shadow didn't really start to settle down and act like adult cats until they were over 2 years old.

thanks for your thoughts. he seems better today. underfoot but not as bad. he's a sweetheart , hoping this works. I take him to the vet for a vaccine booster and a new kitty checkup. a clinic I've used for a long time but a new vet. he has no interest in going outside so far, something we thought might be an issue but doesnt seem to be. Im a softie when it comes to disciplining him. DH just sweeps him off if he goes somewhere we dont want him, like a countertop. he does seem to pay attention and learn. he is a very vocal cat and meows constantly. none of our other cats ever said much. today was definitely better. he slept in front of the woodstove and on different chairs and was out of the way a lot more.

bathroom is painted. not a big room but very awkward to paint with an angled skylight 15 feet tall. did a yard walk this afternoon. 35 minutes. somewhat to look for damage after our windstorm 2 days ago. was very windy here but power stayed on.

Yesterday I did my PT work, foam rolling and LMR Functional Pilates Fusion. I really liked the Pilates Fusion. I agree with Carolyn, it’s a little harder than it seems and it was a good fit with my PT work.

Cathy-Great job with Live Cardio Core and Onto the Floor and Restorative Yoga.

Carolyn-Great job with your Yoga/Mobility work.

Valerie-Nice job with your yard walk. Both Chris and I used Windows PCs at work for decades and it’s hard to get out of the habit. Chris uses his PC for gaming, which Apple doesn’t really do the way he wants. We love the Apple ecosystem for everything else though and if it wasn’t for the gaming I think we would probably make the switch.

Hi to Shannon and Diane Sue

Hi, ladies. Yesterday I did LMR Mobility. It’s my second-favorite from the new series. I need to remember to wear shoes when I do it though. Most of the workout is great barefoot, but my feet would appreciate shoes on some of the lunges. Today is supposed to be weights, but I’m not sure what I’m going to do. Been having some weird issues with a nerve that I believe is pinched in my shoulder but causes intense tingling and itching in my forearm.

Judy – You are really getting back into your longer workouts. Way to go. You made a good point about foam rolling. I was thinking of trashing mine, but the reality is that as I get older, I may need it to rehab an injury.

Cathy – I’m sorry you had to put the tree up by yourself. It’s really a family thing, isn’t it? I don’t bother. The dog doesn’t care if we have one or not. I decided how I’m going to plug the LMR workouts into my schedule this weekend. I’m not doing an LRM rotation, just mixing them in with my other stuff.

Valerie –. I sure don’t envy you with that painting. The skylight sounds like a serious pain. How is the kitty today? I hope he will find a nice, comfy place that he makes his own.

Carolyn – Sundays are great days for yoga, for sure.

Hi to Diane.

Today I did KCM’s Cardio Fit, both workouts, cardio only. That was 34 minutes and 243 calories burned. My average heart rate was 134 and maximum heart rate was 171. I finished with P 30 Extended Stretch.

Valerie, getting the bathroom painted is a nice accomplishment. I’m glad that the kitten is getting better.

Judy, great job with PT, foam rolling, and LMR Functional Pilates Fusion.

Shannon, nice job with LMR Functional Mobility. I don’t plan to do a full rotation with the LMR workouts either. I like to see how Cathe uses them with other workouts. I follow her rotations loosely, substituting workouts that work better for me when necessary.

Hello to Cathy and Diane Sue.

another very busy day. cat to vet which went fine. figured out he has been peeing in a large houseplant pot instead of his litter box. found dirt on the floor and digging in the pot. Great. hopefully headed that habit off at the beginning. vet suggested getting some interactive toys for him so I ordered one today to see if it helps because I think he's bored and has nothing to do but get underfoot and sit on my lap. all our other cats wanted to be outside so we didnt have to worry about them being entertained.
DH's computer was not booting up today so the end is soon. he had to restart it about 12 times today. really does not work anymore.
the DVD player routed to our main TV died completely. we expected this would happen when the remote stopped working much of the time so we had ordered a replacement DVD and I think an amp. . this afternoon we set that up and have it running. I have no clue how this works but the sound system and dvd are connected and we get much better sound than we could get from the TV alone.

I did stacked upper body later this afternoon. I knew I could go thru that one fairly efficiently. Ive been doing enough upper body things almost daily that this was not hard, Ive just been doing smaller groups of exercises almost every day rather than a long workout 2x a week.

I have a foam roller but dont enjoy using it. I keep it standing in a corner just because I might need it to rehab from some unforeseen injury.

it was good getting the bathroom done. now if the plumbing people can do this sooner we are all ready and it wont be a last minute scramble.

Good morning, ladies. I did my own weight workout last night and listened to my playlist. I skipped shoulders and didn't have any problems with the weird tingling stuff. I also skipped abs simply because I didn't want to do them. :) No matter how important core work is, sometimes it just bores me to tears.

Carolyn - Yep, I'm with you. We have to do the workouts that work best for us!

Valerie - Shame on the kitty for peeing in your plant! At least he doesn't pee on the rug, which is what my dog did when she first moved in. I thought I was going to strangle her before she was house broken. Dang computers. They sure are handy when they work, but such a serious pain when they don't. I hope the plumbers come early.

Hi to Cathy, Judy and Diane.

Since november 1 we've had the two desktop computers, our living room TV and the entire sound and dvd system along, with it... fail. our phones are new and working ok. we knew the desktops were reaching the end since mine could not upgrade to Win 11 but DH's did the upgrade. didnt matter. I dont think he tried it this morning. the total mess with the Dell computer probably made it feel like it was worse but that certainly failed as well but at least well within the first month. yesterday we together set up the new TV/DVD/sound system. Im not a genius at how to do it, but I can unwrap and keep all the little cables and pieces organized and the workspace controlled. DH is way better at knowing what hooks up to what, but he tends to rip and toss making the crime scene a mess. this went smoothly. it worked fine last night.

shannon our first dog did that to us too, pooped on the carpet. several times. that was rough and we almost quit .
kitty used litter box as hoped. I blocked access to plant bases with some paper packing. he has periods when he's fine but a lot of times he is too pushy and overwhelming. he wanted to sit on my lap while I had breakfast and jumped up there again and again. I start by lifting him down but by about time #10 he got pushed off. I did not realize how much difference there is between a young indoor cat and an older one who uses his energy outdoors. we're trying but DH is not a fan anymore. we can take him back to the shelter we got him from and he would get adopted elsewhere I'm sure because he is a very appealing little guy, but needs more stimulation and maybe other pets to interact with. not feeling too good about this right now.

it feels good knowing painting is done. the plumbers are waiting for tub to arrive. this time of year shipments are slower. the floor and wall guy is also waiting for product.

yesterday I tried to order rx refills from costco pharmacy. you can order refills by #. the auto system wasnt working 6 am. in the afternoon I called back. still wasnt working. then you have an option to talk to staff. I ordered my things and then said , "did you know your automatic order system isn't working?" she did not. she thanked me for telling her. I wonder how many hundred people called for refills and never mentioned this? its a busy place and nobody said anything! so my good deed for the day!

Well, no workout for me tonight. I need to go shopping after work. I need to go at some point this week no matter what, and it looks like tonight's the night (Rod Stewart, anyone?). Tomorrow there's an 85% chance of rain, and the later in the week it gets, I imagine the crazier shopping will be before Christmas. No way am I going into town this weekend! :)

Valerie - I sure am sorry the kitty isn't working out. It sounds like he really loves you. But I get it. My cat went through an "in your face" phase. She'd crawl up under my book and literally get in my face when I was trying to read. Not sure what got into her, because normally she was mostly an outdoor cat who liked to come in once in a while. Anyhow, it was rather annoying. She died of old age many years ago.

Today I did LMR Functional Upper Body, 51 minutes, 167 calories, average heart rate 109, and maximum heart rate 139. I liked the workout. So far I’ve liked all of the workouts that I’ve tried from this series.

Hello to everyone and have a wonderful day.

Yesterday I did a 20-minute walk, 30 minutes of full body strength and my PT work. Today I did a 45 minute Peloton ride and will do my PT work later this evening.
Shannon-Great job with LMR Mobility and your weight work. I probably won’t do an LMR rotation either. While I’m good at working out consistently, I’m not very good at sticking with specific rotations.

Valerie-I’m sorry about the kitty not working out but it sounds like he will be able to get a new home easily. Hopefully the shelter can help you find a kitty that is a better fit. I’ve known a few people that have had to do this because a pet didn’t work out. One of our neighbors had to return a dog that wasn’t working out and a co-worker had to return a cat that was being too aggressive with another pet in the house.

Carolyn-Great job with KCM’s Cardio Fit, P30 Extended Stretch and LMR Functional Upper Body. I’m with you, I think that I am going to like all of the LMR workouts based on what I’ve done and seen so far. It’s a very good series and a little more challenging than I expected.

Hi to Cathy and Diane Sue

I haven't given up yet. I bought a toy today and would have gotten more except cat toys were in short supply. trying for interactive things so I don't have to run around with balls rolling under furniture needing retrieval. I do like him but DH is getting pretty short fused about it. DH is having some other issues too so trying not to be too abrupt. I am sure he will get adopted if this doesn't work.

Didn't realize I never posted Monday. I thought I did. I did the third week of STS Meso 3 which is Shoulders, Biceps and Triceps. Tomorrow the planned workout is legs and it's the heaviest I ever list for legs, so I'm aiming to do a ton of stretching during rest periods because that worked really well last week. Today I did 4DS High Intensity Step Only. For a long time now I've just used the finished combos from that and I'd forgotten how intense the blasts, which are basically intense step, are. Then I was going to to the Yoga Fusion, but my Dad called and since he can rarely get away from Mom to talk we try to always take those. He was driving to the store, which both my sister and I have tried to dissuade him from talking and driving, but oh well. By the time he caught me up on Mom, I had to start doing other things. We got Derek all packed up and except for last minute stuff he's ready to leave in the morning. Based on how the piles looked in the house I had my doubts, but we actually got it all in and still left his vision out the back and side clear. Amazing how much you can fit in a Prius. LOL

I'm going to have to play catch up tomorrow. But Valerie I hope things work out with Kitty, but if they don't it's good that they will take him back. He rather sounds like Tux who will jump up and get in my face, steal pillows in the middle of the night and loves to watch DH's feet, which drives DH nuts. But, he has 3 other cats to mess with. But every day he has several hour + long periods where he just is non stop trouble. He's like a 3-4 month old kitten activity wise in 3 year old 14 lb cat body and I have never had a cat like him before and I've had a lot of cats!ases

Oh, and he loves the ball bat around thing we have. Circular with card board scratching thing in the middle and what is basically a ping pong ball to knock around. He knocks it out and chases it. I bought a 6 pack of extra balls, so we don't have to constantly search for them. Found it on Amazon, but most stores that sell toys have them. And Wow that's a long link! https://www.amazon.com/LYCTDD-Scrat...-11-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9tdGY&th=1
