Pentagenarians & Beyond: 12/01/2024

Thanks, Judy! Yesterday I had an awesome hike at Petit Jean State Park. One of the most beautiful areas of the state. I spent the whole day up there. Today is a rest day. My feet need it. And my grand nephew is getting baptized today. Getting ready to leave for that now. He is my first grand nephew.

This morning I did 4DS Kickbox Cardio Only. We've only had about 1 1/2" of snow, mostly Friday, but the temps aren't going above freezing so it's going nowhere. At least the highways are clear.

Carolyn you'll have to let us know what you think of the new workouts. Mine are supposed to come Wednesday. I still have to inflate my second balance disc and my yoga blocks are supposed to be here Friday, though with Amazon they are fairly likely to come earlier.

Valerie I hope your computer issues get straightened out sooner rather than later. Wanting a handwriting sample is very odd for an online purchase. Sorry to hear that he got another migraine.

Shannon that sounds like a really cool hike! I need to suck it up and go out and walk regularly throughout the day. We are at 24 headed for a balmy 29. LOL

Hi Diane Sue and Judy.

This morning I did Jane Adams Gentle Yoga, Morning Energy practice.

Valerie, I’m glad that things have settled down a bit with your husband. Your new computer sounds like it was a real lemon. I had to send a picture of a Fitbit and hand write the date for a Fitbit that was defective a few years ago. They didn’t want it returned, but that’s much smaller than a desktop computer.

Diane Sue, nice job with WS3 Lower Body Strength and Ana Pilates.

Shannon, great job with your hike at the state park.

Cathy, nice job with 4DS kickboxing cardio only.

Hello to Judy.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

its apparently the wireless card that sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. it's a desktop all-in-one. I think they will not want it back but I will use it (when it works) until a replacement is here. sometimes its fine, but if its been on a few hours it suddenly stops working. wireless keyboard and mouse too. abruptly without warning and internet connection is lost. if it sits in "off" for several hours it is ok again. we had to turn it over and get serial # from the bottom along with his handwriting. that seems weird since it was bought online I dont think they had a handwriting sample to start with. it was about $600 so not a huge investment but we want to get this processed within the first 30 days.

my dvds are due thursday. Im looking forward to new routines I can do. most of my old dvds are too hard. not all.
we did a park walk again this morning, 90 minutes. really a lovely morning, mid 30's with some fog that was burning off. this is a nice couple miles with a few steep hills up and down and also some flat areas above the sound. lots of ducks and other water birds. DH is feeling better today with the last headache not developing into much. I like walking in the colder weather better than warm. it cuts the population way down.

this will sound ridiculous but DH is teaching me how to use the new TV in the family room. it took a while to get it set up and the dvd player is dying. its OLD so not a surprise. its complicated and the whole swt up will change again, probably soon. I'm not a genius with electronics to begin with. this is very complicated.

Today is a rest day. I just did Ana Pilates Flourish Day 27 restorative yoga to relieve tension, 25 minutes. I am supposed to have my dvds in the mail tomorrow, which is usually around 9-10 o'clock. I may be able to try something out.

Shannon, I am glad you had an awesome hike today. Seeing your grandnephew baptized will be fun.

Cathy, nice work on 4Day Split kickbox cardio only. That is a fun kickbox workout.

Carolyn, nice job on Jame Adams Gental yoga Morning Energy Practice today.

Valerie, I am glad your husband is doing better with the headaches. You had a good long walk today.
I really dread trouble shooting electronics. I have tried to get our audio to work on our big screen when playing dvds and it just will not work. I am pretty sure it is the tv because I cannot even plug my lap top into the television and get audio to work on a video that way. The tv often just get quiet and I will think my husband turned it down and other times it blasts out and makes me jump. It was hooked up to an audio system and blu-ray player all Sony when we moved, and I don't know what happened. We do not have other speakers hooked up to it anymore. I am not good with computers and I drive my husband nuts because I do not organize things like he does.

Good morning, ladies. Well, it's back to work for me. I may not be around tomorrow and definitely not Wednesday. I have to go into Little Rock both days, tomorrow for a few hours and Wednesday all day, and I won't have my computer. We are having a card signing "party." Woot. I work in our fund raising department, and we "get" to hand sign about 6,000 Christmas cards that we send to our donors.

Yesterday was a very nice rest day. The baptism was so sweet. Garrison smiled his big, happy smile when the pastor baptized him. The rest of the day was reading and walking my dog. I just got an email that my DVDs are out for delivery, so I will do one of them for my workout. I'm thinking the total body one.

Cathy - did you suck it up and walk? LOL. Yeah, once it gets below 30, it's kind of tough. At least you only have a few inches of snow to slog through.

Carolyn - Gentle Yoga sounds like a good one for a Sunday. Nice job!

Valerie - I came upon this in a newsletter I subscribe to: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39291634/ It says that taking inulin, a prebiotic fiber, may help to reduce migraines. I'm glad your husband is doing better, but this sounds like a safe and simple possibility.

Diane - Nice job with the restorative yoga. Let me know which of Cathe's DVDs you decide to do.

Hi to Judy!

Got a good night's sleep and woke up early and did Live Kick, Box and Sweat and now I just finished STS Disk 27 Shoulders, Biceps and Triceps. First week of Meso 4. My sister left on a cruise yesterday, so I'm getting pics of fluffy clouds and blue sky. It's 26 and cloudy here does she really think I need to see those! LOL

Shannon looking forward to your first review of a new workout. And yes, I did walk, but going out for a walk is very different then when it's warm and I probably go our and walk the paths at least 7 times a day!

Diane Sue great job with the restorative yoga.

Valerie great job with the long park walk. Glad your DH is feeling better. You certainly must be better at electronics than my husband. Unless he's backed into a corner and has to figure something really basic out, he won't even try. I have the Roku totally set up and all he would need to do is open an app and select what he wants to watch, but it'll never happen. I do rather appreciate though that he'll never drive my car because it has a push button start, but it's true offense (horror of horrors) is no CD player. LOL The man doesn't even have any contacts in his phone because he never figured out how to make a contact when someone contacts him, and he still prints paper maps, because he has no idea of how to use GPS on his phone.

Carolyn great job with the yoga.

Hi Judy.

I’ve been doing short Peloton rides and rows and I feel like my knee/leg is slowly getting better. I think I can try some more challenging workouts soon. I'm looking forward to getting into the new series. I downloaded them over the weekend and the DVDs should be here today. I'll probably wait for the user guide before I try them.

Cathy-Great job with 4DS Kickbox Cardio Only, Live Kick, Box and Sweat and STS Disk 27 Shoulders, Biceps and Triceps. It was so cold here this weekend. Kind of depressing but at least the sun is out today.

Shannon, great job with your hike at the state park. I'm glad your DVDs arrived today.

Carolyn-Great job with Jane Adams Gentle Yoga, Morning Energy practice.

Valerie-I’m sorry about your new computer. That is good that your husband is feeling better.

Diane Sue-Nice job with the restorative yoga. I like the Peloton restorative yoga classes.

Today I did P 30 Low Impact HiiT, 32 minutes, 203 calories burned, 128 average heart rate, and maximum heart rate 166. I need to familiarize myself with the new workouts before I try them out. I saw that Garance (Lynda, who was a part of this group) posted a review of the Total Body workout.

Valerie, nice job with the park walk.

Diane Sue, nice job with Ana pilates.

Cathy, great job with Live Kick, Box, and Sweat, and STS disc 27 Shoulders, Biceps, and Triceps.

Judy, great job with the short Peloton rides and rowing. I’m waiting for the user guide too.

Have a good day everyone.

new computer is not working at all today. Dell gave us a hard time about exchanging for a new system ( after their CS authorized it over the weekend) and want us to "fix" this one. no, not happening. not sure we will deal with this company again. this was a problem from day one and we should not have to take it apart and replace a board. this is not updating a driver or some software thing. no way. felt like they were stalling to reach the 30 day mark when they can be less responsive.

we did another walk this morning, same as yesterday but colder. 1 hour 20 minutes. not busy again which is nice. Im probably not going to be around for a bit. between medical appts and computer not working. using DH's system now but its hard to type on because the chair is so low.
ill check back in soon.

the TV/DVD/sound system set up is very complicated . Im trying... but by the time I get it sorted out, the DVD player will tank and we will need to start over again with a new dvd player. I used to be able to do it, but the apple TV did me in. we could not get Roku to work. some of the buttons dont work on the dvd remote that is absolutely filthy but I'm afraid cleaning it will kill it 100%. .

its weird but the computer decided to work now though it wouldnt work at all this afternoon.
cathy I'm better than your husband. not sure that's exactly something to brag about but I'll take it. I do well with phones, ok with computers and poor on tv remotes. we never have a simple system. never. I can do one set up in the exercise room but not the one in our family room. learning!

Good morning, ladies - For some unknown reason, I woke up at oh, 1:00 and could not go back to sleep. I tried my best but finally gave up at 2:30. Got up and did some work, so at least that's out of my hair before I go to our Staff Appreciation Luncheon today. Anyhow, the main reason I'm here is to tell you about the new Total Body workout.

It's pretty good. It reminds me of Cathe's metabolic workouts. Lots of compound moves that get the heart rate up a bit. On some moves, there is room to lift heavier if you want, but on other moves I wouldn't try it. I'd classify it as a "feel good" workout. I felt well worked, in that Cathe moved me on all planes and hit all the muscles, but not hard. She has some new, fun compound and balance moves that I really liked. I did the premix that includes the Anytime Mobility add-on. That's basically like a shorter version of the Perfect 30 mobility workout. If you choose that premix, be prepared - you'll want a yoga mat ready, and you should probably kick your shoes off. I found it just as easy to walk over to my area rug, since Cathe uses the big round yoga mat and you need more space than just a typical yoga mat.

Judy - I'm very glad that your knee is getting better!

Carolyn - Good job with Perfect 30 Low Impact HiiT. I could never get into that one though.

Valerie - Good luck with your computer issues. UGH.

Hi to Cathy and Diane.

I'll be back Friday.

This morning I did STS 2 Standing Core Plus Floor and Total Body Stretching w/ball #1. I always forget about the 3 stretches in that series.

My workouts are out for delivery. I'll likely wait to use them until I see the guide and also likely won't use some of them until I'm done with STS. I rather fried my triceps yesterday.

Valerie that sounds like a really good walk. More often than not, I use the Roku remote on my phone app. I find that especially for volume the actual remote is really lousy and tends to be slow on other things.

Shannon thanks for the review of one of the new workouts. Sorry about your short night enjoy your luncheon.

Carolyn great job with P 30 Low Impact HiiT. I'm so bad about reviewing new workouts first. I just leap in. LOL Which generally is okay, but once in awhile there's something that makes me regret it.

Judy great job with the Peloton workouts. I'm glad that your knee is starting to feel better.

Hi Diane Sue.

I decided to try the Functional Total Body this morning. I chose timesaver #1 and my time was 45 minutes and 128 calories burned. Average heart rate was 100 and maximum heart rate was 133. I like this one. I did a quick preview using the fast forward function and made myself a workout sheet. As Shannon mentioned it’s somewhat metabolic with the compound moves. Cathe use weights from 5-12 pounds and a 35-40 pound barbell for dead rows and some biceps. I didn’t use the barbell, just dumbbells. There are options for modifying with Jen and Brenda doing some of those.

Valerie, nice job with the walk. I have purchased several computers from Dell over the years with no problems and great service. My daughter had a problem with the delivery of a laptop that she ordered last year and it was not resolved until a couple of months ago. Neither Dell or Fed Ex would take responsibility for the botched delivery. She disputed the charges on her credit card then ordered the same item from Best Buy and picked it up at the store. Dell was known for having good customer service but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.

Shannon, I’m sorry that you were unable to sleep. Great job with Functional Total Body. I chose a shorter premix, but I look forward to doing the Mobility bonus.

Cathy, nice job with STS 2.0 Standing Core plus Floor and Total Body Stretching. I didn’t fully preview the workout, but I have to look at enough of a workout to know what equipment I need and what the exercises look like. That’s one reason that I cancelled my Cathe Live subscription after I tried it for a while.

Hello to Diane Sue and Judy.

Did the surgery this morning and was home by about 9. I was patient #1 at 7:30. all went ok. i was not as sedated when I went in so got to look at more stuff and ask more questions. people who rotate thru later are pretty sedated when they roll into the surgery room. it really is an amazing procedure. I remember way back in the 50's where people were immobilized in a bed for weeks after this surgery. i need to be quiet today and quiet for the week without spending time upside down or lifting heavy weights etc. I can walk and ride. its cold, foggy, and icy for the next few days so not missing anything.

we had bought Dell products before without issue. the CS people DH talked to on the weekend told him one thing, and the weekday crew has a different more confrontational attitude. we're not happy. next time we will buy it thru a retailer if we can so they can take the grief. this was direct from Dell.

Im looking forward to getting the new dvds.

Really quick - I did the Mobility Fusion with the cardio add on. Mobility exceeded my expectations. Much more active than Perfect 30, which I was expecting to compare it to. I did it barefoot on puzzle mats, but some of the moves would have felt better with shoes, and I might try that next time. You’d still need mats though. The cardio segment definitely needs shoes, LOL. The cardio is really too brief to do anything more than elevate the heart a bit. I don’t think I’ll ever use it. But the mobility is a keeper for sure.

Today I did JS 30 Minute Fat Blaster, 30 minutes, 236 calories burned, average heart rate 142 and maximum heart rate 180.

Valerie, I didn’t realize that you were having the surgery yesterday. I’m glad that it went well and you are in recovery mode.

Shannon, thanks for your review of Mobility Fusion and Cardio Add-On.

Hello to Judy, Diane Sue, and Cathy.

Carolyn it was smooth and easy. I still get nervous because thats the way I am. today Im seeing 20/25 distance, easily 20/20 close up. no discomfort, cant tell anything was done except no eye make up. I'm pushy about make up but not for a week on that eye. I go back for a 3 week check and then am done.

I got my DVDs today but have not looked at them. I need to go easy for a week so plan to look at them and not do them.

our bad relationship with Dell went downhill. returning the malfunctioning computer and buying HP. DH had a long heated talk again. each time he calls it's like no history of previous calls is there. it's starting over again. system works sometimes. can fail anytime and not reconnect. it worked a couple times today and is working now but not an hour ago. we will ship it back. cant get the return shipping label to print. we've had Dell products before and never had a headache like this. their CS department is worthless. no connection between the many calls when it first started to fail. case #'s dont help. I dont know what happened to them. used to be a good company.

Today I did Lift, Move, Restore Functional Lower Body, 54 minutes, 145 calories, heart rate 100/152, 1,407 steps. I then did the Functional Restorative Yoga Bonus 23 minutes, 24 calories. This was a relaxed workout using yoga blocks and holding the position once there a bit for 5 breaths. It was nice and felt good. At first I was thinking of stopping and going to something that had me moving. I probably need more of this type of work. Would be good at night. Total time was 77 minutes, 169 calories. I also did my back pod and advanced to no pillow under my head. I stretched a little afterward.
No user guide so I just wrote down the workout.
