Pentagenarians & Beyond 1/30

Good morning. Today I did Jane Adams Gentle Yoga Morning Energy practice. That was 18 minutes and 27 calories burned. As usual it was a good mobility and balance workout.

Valerie, thanks for starting the thread this week. I always wonder if the time stamp on your post is in eastern time. For example, did you post at 11:32 or was it 3 hours earlier. I assume that the time that I see is all eastern time.

Hello to Judy, Cathy, and Diane Sue. Have a great day everyone.

good morning.
carolyn I was on the computer at 8;30 last night so I posted the new thread then, PST, so that is correct time. I thought I was doing grocery shopping early today and it would have been much later before I could get us started. as it turned out, I am shopping but later than planned. ( However does that happen???) I've done it before if we plan an early activity. none of us seem to post later in the evening .
yesterday I did another 45 min on the elliptical. DH had very minor surgery friday, a small skin lesion that needed removing. he is sidelined from upper body activity for a few days. he is using the elliptical right now since it's easy to work around using his left arm but still using the machine for everything else.

Valerie, that’s what I thought. On my end it shows your post at 11:32, so we each see the time stamp based on our own time zone. Great job with the elliptical.

I did Love Me Some Cardio Kickboxing and Step Boss Bonus Abs this morning. That's a really tough workout. Fair amount of burpees into heel clicks and then at the end some air jacks.

Carolyn great job with the yoga!

Valerie I know all about those "I'm going to shop early" and then "apparently not!" days. Great job with the elliptical!

Yesterday I rode 60 minutes on the Peloton and today I rode 70 minutes and did a short Peloton yoga session. Tomorrow I will be back to strength work. It sounds like we may be getting a snow storm later this week, Wednesday night into Thursday.

Valerie-Great job with the elliptical. Thanks for the tips. I'll start looking for accommodations early. It will give me something positive to focus while the weather is so unpleasant. New Mexico and/or California would be nice too.

Carolyn-Great job with Jane Adams Gentle Yoga Morning Energy practice. The Peloton yoga I did was an evening practice and it was all on the floor, kind of like Yin Yoga. I'll have to try a morning practice soon.

Cathy-Great job with Love Me Some Cardio Kickboxing and Step Boss Bonus Abs. The kickboxing one sounds tough!

Hi to Diane Sue,

judy I don't know if this year the rental market was especially intense because of the covid issue. it helps to look at the area you want to stay, see what's available, and general rate. check to see how fast things fill up. No expert, a first time for us. we wont wait as long for next year.
another thing is bike rental, unless you plan on driving. bikes were available. REI was by far the best deal if you are a member. Bike has to go onto your rental vehicle somehow. we had a tough experience with Budget. we reserved a pickup. they tried to dodge at the airport rental desk and give us a minivan. we said NO. waited until they found the truck. no way to lock the bikes to the truck and took them into our condo every night. I didn't look for a rental car with a bike rack, assuming that was a bridge too far. we wanted the rental for 10 days. no way were paying for a bike rental place to pick us up and drop us off daily.
wow you really can spin for a long time!.

tee hee... cathy, yes the early am shopping trip sometimes gets delayed slightly.

Lori hope you still check in with us from time to time. iguanas falling from the trees?

I did the warm up and abs from X train yesterday and called it a day.

Today I did P30 Low Impact HiiT and the extended stretch. That was 38 minutes and 239 calories burned. Average heart rate was 126 and maximum heart rate was 163.

Cathy, great job with Love Me Some Cardio Kickboxing and Step Boss Bonus Abs. That does sound like a tough cardio workout!

Judy, nice work with the long Peloton rides and the yoga.

Valerie, winter is a good time to visit Arizona. The temperature can be awful during the warmer months.

Diane Sue, I hope that your recovery is going well.

Lori, I’m thinking of you also.

Today was Disk 7 Shoulders, Biceps and Chest and because I'm crazy I added up the total number of pushups. 182! And of course some are multi count ones. Elmo pushups finally made their appearance. Like Judy said snow storm coming, so I'm moving my shopping day to tomorrow when we are going to be near 40 and may get rain. Then from tomorrow night through Thursday we may get 8-12". Definitely to weather to be going anywhere that's for sure!

Judy great job with the Peloton rides! Those are long. Even if I'm watching, listening to things, I get bored with machine cardio. When I belonged to a gym, 20-25 minutes was about it for me.

Valerie nice job with the XTrain Abs. My sister was telling me about the iguanas.

Carolyn good job with the P30 Low Impact Hiit!

Today I did KCM Power Splits, Upper and Lower and a 10 minute Peloton scenic ride.

Valerie-Great job with the XTrain Warm up and Abs. We would probably drive, but if not, REI sounds like the best place to rent bikes. I'm not sure we would want to take our bikes that far so we might rent them anyway. We might try to include Colorado Springs in the trip so we can visit family.

Carolyn- Great job with P30 Low Impact HiiT and the extended stretch.

Cathy-Great job with Disk 7 Shoulders, Biceps and Chest. That is definitely a lot of pushups! We will be doing a little grocery shopping tomorrow too. It sounds like this will be quite a snow storm.

Hi to Diane Sue & Lori

After weeks of temps not hitting 32, it's currently 46 and sunny! And then between tonight and Thursday night we are now predicted to get 10-15" of snow. And after today, it'll be more than 2 weeks before they even get to 32. Going to go out and walk around the yard in a bit and enjoy the heat. LOL

Judy great job with the KCM and Peloton workouts! Hopefully the storm won't be AS bad as predicted, but at least I don't have to go out till next week.

Today I did Muscle Endurance, the express (?) premix. That was 57 minutes and 295 calories burned. Average heart rate was 118 and maximum heart rate 144. Cathe’s older workouts are longer, but they usually include an abs segment. I had to go to the grocery store and to Costco after my workout. I even got free N95 masks at Kroger. That was a surprise.

Cathy, great job with STS disc 7. I can’t believe that you added more pushups! I’ve been watching the weather forecast and it does look like you and Judy are in for quite a storm.

Judy, great job with KCM Power Splits. I want to take a look at those workouts soon.

Hello to Valerie and Diane Sue.

we did a short hike this morning probably about 3 miles. at a state park along the Sound. a lot of up and downhill, a section along water, on a rocky gravely beach. took 1 hr 15 minutes. cold and damp and gray and windy. pleasant morning though. probably will be wet early afternoon.

nobody around this morning? hope your weather forecast isn't as unpleasant as it sounds.

we already had a pack or two of N95 masks. the first ones are around the head. I found I can't keep them on. slide down my hair and off. I got a second pack with ear loops that stay in place. feels like we will be doing this forever....sigh!
Deb, meant to give a shoutout to you too. hope all is well with you.

I just realized that I didn’t check in today. I started to do so earlier and was interrupted. I did JS Stride and Step which was 30 minutes and 224 calories burned. My average heart rate was 133 and maximum heart rate was 158.

Valerie, that’s great that you were able to hike this morning. The weather forecast is ugly for the next few days. Hopefully we will only have rain, not ice.

Hello to Judy and Cathy.

Well today wasn't what I'd planned. Broken nights sleep meant that I slept past my usual wake up time. I had set up all my equipment for Disk 8 last night, and it's still sitting there. It's Back and Triceps and I knew I'd be shoveling a LOT, so I decided to move it to tomorrow. But, I'll be shoveling more then, so I think maybe I'll just do triceps tomorrow and consider back done! I was out four times, but all I did was the paved area by the garage. Two car width and that area is two cars deep. Then I did a strip two shovels wide all the way down the drive and every time I went out, I just redid THAT area! Snow has finally let up, but at one point it was an inch an hour. We are somewhere between 8-10" and there's supposed to be some more overnight. DH worked all day, so it was pretty much dark by the time he was done.

Carolyn great job with Muscle Endurance and Stride and Step! LOL I didn't add pushups Monday, I added them up cause I wanted to know how many I'd done. The last thing I'd ever do it ADD pushups to anything.

Valerie great that you got a hike in today! I prefer the KN95's with the around the head band, and just pull my hair out and over them. The store I shop at didn't have KN95's but we have enough. I only go out once a week right now, so I just hang them over my rear view mirror for the week. I also wear cloth over them, so I can use them longer. I know NMU has given the kids brown paper bags to put there's in after wearing them.

Today I did 70 minutes of Peloton rides and helped Chris shovel this afternoon. We didn't get as much snow as predicted, but it's still snowing. We got about 5 inches today and will probably get a few more inches overnight.

Carolyn-Great job with Muscle Endurance and JS Stride and Step. I hope you don't get ice. Stay safe.

Valerie-Sounds like you had a great hike! I agree about it feeling like we will be doing masks forever. I much prefer the ones with ear loops. I wasn't able to adjust to wearing the ones with the head band. I found these and have ordered several times:

N95 Respirator Mask Reusable, (FDA Registered) Face Mask for at least – Canopus USA (canopusgroup.us)

Cathy-It sounds like you got more snow than we did. Shoveling is a great back workout!

Judy those look like the ones I got. I have black ones. I tried a lot of techniques with my hair, but the masks around my head won't stay put. they have to go above or below the pony tail and neither way works. wont stay even with my hair down. I then do the same thing though, cathy.... onto the rear view mirror to self sanitize. snow shoveling covers upper body pretty thoroughly. you could skip specific workouts for a few days.

our forecast is pretty marginal for the next two days but we always assume it might be better than expected and might be good enough for a local hike. pretty cold for mt biking.

This morning I did P30 Perfect Pump Lower Body and the Extended Stretch. My time was 40 minutes with 188 calories burned. Average heart rate was 114 and maximum heart rate 145.

Cathy, all of that shoveling was certainly a back, biceps, and shoulder workout! I prefer the KN95 and filter masks that I have over the N95, but it’s good to have them. An older cashier who often checks me out told me that they had just come in and where in the store they were located. I wear a cloth mask over whatever disposable mask I wear.

Judy, nice job with the Peloton ride and snow shoveling upper body workout. I prefer masks like the ones in your link, but that’s not what I currently have.

Valerie, I hope that the weather will allow you to hike today.

Hello to Diane Sue. Have a wonderful day everyone.

It appears we had around 10" and it's heavy and wet. I was out twice today, to redo what I did yesterday and another strip down to the road. DH went out for a bit after work. More tomorrow. It's not like we have anywhere to go. I also did Triceps today. Certainly wasn't a stress free day. Couldn't convince Nick to not go to work (36 miles one way). I woke up at 3:30 and stayed awake because I knew that he would be up around 5:00 my time since he had to be there at 6 his time. I told him that the news there was saying people should stay off the roads, but oh no he had to go. Followed him on the Find My app. Took him forever but he got there. Was there 7 1/2 hours and they had FIVE whole patients! Took him even longer to drive home. Doesn't know yet if he'll get scheduled for tomorrow. Sunday might be okay as it's going to be sunny all day and a few hours above freezing tomorrow.

Judy those are the kinds of masks I have. Great job with that long Peloton ride!

Valerie I hope you are able to get some hiking in!

Carolyn nice job with P30 PP Lower Body. That's a really good workout!

No hike. rained all day. Booo! still raining today.
did a 36 min spin premix from x train. two sets 25 of knee push-ups, two sets of 32 dips, tricep push-ups two sets of 16 then curls two sets of 16.
Sorry you are all dealing with snow and ice. We had our bout recently so I sympathize. Very messy! our snow is almost always right on the edge of freezing so heavy and wet. and sticky. adheres to the snow shovel so each shovelful refuses to slide off and needs to be pounded off. DH and I have a huge area to do. it is not fun. we have a very steep driveway to the road several hundred feet long. the parking pad in front of the garage is flat. if we don't clear both we can't get up or down. it is gravel. we have resisted asphalt ing it because when icy, its not driveable. later when snow melts, water runs into the garage forming "lake washington" unless we have cleared the snow. we have two large decks that also need shoveling or at least brooming off. wet snow is heavy! we clear it right away. things seldom improve with time. some years we get no snow, but some years we get several loads.

cathy DH used to go thru that with work. when it snows here, everything shuts down. DH would go to great lengths to get to the office and then all appts would cancel making the trip meaningless.
