Pentagenarians & Beyond: 01/05/2025

Weird calf tightness this morning. I didn't have it when I first got up, but when I went to go upstairs, there was tightness in my left calf. After having issues with both calves years ago, I know pay very close attention to them. Massaged it some during breakfast and it felt okay, but I was supposed to do LMR Total Body today and opted to do the Upper Body and Core premix instead and modified a couple of the compound moves. If it feels okay from here on out, I'll do some legs tomorrow. We're finally going to my parents today after two weather postponements.

Shannon there you go-buy a replacement and voila! That IMAX workout is parts of IMAX 2, 3, and 4 with a couple blast moves from other workouts. Deep cleaning the whole house truly is a full workout.

Valerie that's great that you got the full amount back. Did you do the survey and tell them how you felt?

Diane Sue 16 degrees with rain! Yikes that just screams ice.

Hi Judy and Carolyn.

cathy I let DH handle the issues with Dell. he ordered it and dealt with the tech people thru the whole deal. it gets more confusing if two people are doing the talking. I didnt insert myself in there! I mostly got into it with replacing the wireless card and packing it and shipping it back. sometimes too many cooks, etc. He had already told them many times how the process had failed, but you can talk for a month to disconnected people in India or Taiwan or someplace and be pretty damn sure you are wasting your breath. sending us a customer survey when we had sent the product back weeks ago shows how much attention is getting paid there. Glad its over and that my replacement system is working well. its just a basic desktop system, it was nothing fancy.

wow 16 degrees with rain sounds like a seriously unpleasant forecast! how fast does that ice layer form and bring down wires and trees? I only did therapy work yesterday. not sure about today but it was raining so we didn't walk.

Good afternoon. I did Jane Adams Gentle Yoga this afternoon for 18 minutes. We have that cold damp weather but the big system will be later this week. I only hope that the rain and cold air don’t meet!

Valerie, I’m glad that you got the refund from Dell. My daughter’s Dell issue wasn’t resolved for over six months. Fed Ed contacted her recently to say “ it looks like we have this computer that wasn’t delivered!!!”

Cathy, I’m glad that you all are going to visit your parents. I’m sure that will make them happy.

Hello Judy, Diane Sue, and Shannon.

I worked 6 hours yesterday, my first shift in several weeks. I wore a new pair of Hokas, the Bondi 9s and they felt wonderful. I think they are the best Hokas I've ever worn. Today I did a 30 minute Peloton Row and my PT/Stretching.

Cathy-I'm sorry about your calf, I hope it's better now. I hope you have a good visit with your parents.

Carolyn-Great job with Jane Adams Gentle Yoga. I hope your weather doesn't get too bad this week.

Valerie-It's good that you got your refund from Dell. I'm glad your replacement is working well.

HI to Diane Sue & Shannon

I took a rest day and today when I wake up I will try to get in the leg workout. We had high winds and it snowed for around 3 hours, but very light and was blowing all over. A little was accumulating around the edges of the walkway. They say sunny today with a high of 31 and low 11. I am glad it was cold enough that it was not rain, sleet, then freeze.

Cathy, my problem is my right calf. It is part of the reason I skipped the lower body workout plan. I have been stretching and massaging it too. I think it may be partly related to that leg being the one the knee has come out of placement, and I had to push down on it to get it back. My Arthritis doctor is such a help as all I got out of him is that I am probably losing cartilage. Same as the costochondritis he just said probably the pleura. He never checks, just comments. I think he just wants me to breakdown and take the immune suppressant drugs. I am supposed to see him next week and not looking forward to it. Nice work on the upper body and core premix.

Carolyn, nice work on Jane Adams Gentle yoga. That is crazy that Fed Ex had the computer and it took that long. I don't know if it is Fed Ex, or the lousy workers that they hire. I always cringe when I see it is Fed Ex that is delivering my stuff. Packages are often torn all up by the time they reach my house. They are always leaving my packages at the end of the walkway or in front of the garage instead of on the doorstep.

Judy, good job on the Peloton row and PT exercises. I have the Bondi 8. I like them a lot, but when I got some athletic shoes from Orthofeet I tend to favor them. I have 3 pair from Orthofeet now. It is probably because the Orthofeet ones I purchased I can just step into. They do have laces and adjustments.

I have no idea what the issue was with my calf, but it's been okay ever since I massaged it yesterday morning. I'm clueless. Today I did Killer Legs Barre and for the first time LMR Functional Mobility Fusion. I LOVE this one. Definitely my favorite of all the mobility workouts. We had a good visit to my parents yesterday.

Diane Sue glad to hear you ended up with snow instead, especially that level of snow. Below a certain temperature, I'll take snow over rain every time. Cold rain is so nasty. We've been getting a lot of that "little to no accumulation" snow. Seems to be the weather apps new go to, and I'm like if it's not going to amount to anything can't you just say flurries. Sound like your arthritis doctor is really no help. :(

Carolyn, diane sue that is so true about fed ex drivers!. they are terrible. they leave things everywhere even in the rain. in front of the garage door when by our front door is just as close but covered. we cringe when we see the fed ex truck. UPS and Amazon do a much better job.

carolyn that is weird, was the package addressed wrong? at least all our things got delivered quickly. glad we are done with it. we still have a replacement wireless card they sent us that we will hang on to in case they want it back. i dont trust Dells customer service department at all. no one knows what anyone else is doing.

I did most of functional upper body last night after doing a 15 minute warm up on the spin bike. didnt do the last 2 exercises because dinner needed my attention sooner than expected. got most of it though.

Hi all. I'm back to work. It may be a day or two before I can do a proper check-in and write personals. Just wanted you to know in case anyone actually misses me. :)

This morning I did Cardio Super Sets, 7 of the 8 rounds. My time was 36 minute, 209 calories burned, average heart rate 123, and maximum heart rate 172. I haven’t done that workout in a long time. I had forgotten that it feels like a total body metabolic workout. I used 5# weights instead of 8#.

Judy, great job with the Peloton Row and PT/stretching.

Diane Sue, I hate to get deliveries from Fed Ex. They aren’t careful with the packages at all.

Cathy, great job with Killer Legs Barre and LMR Functional Mobility Fusion. I like that one too.

Valerie, great job with Functional Upper Body and 15 minute warm up on the spin bike. We don’t know what Fed Ex did with my daughter’s laptop delivery. Neither Dell or Fed Ex would take responsibility for the mixup. She kept getting the runaround and the statement that “the carrier says that the package was delivered”. She had to dispute the purchase with her credit card company.

Hello to Shannon.

done with two medical issues ophthalmology . I'm 20/20 visual after my surgery and can read the smallest line of the chart too. cost a little more but I'm very happy. I had the right vision anatomy to be corrected like this. depends on your eyes if its possible but even with astigmatism it worked.
then on to orthopedics. I am not ready for knee replacement yet. i still have good joint space in the main joint, my issue is the knee cap is bone on bone. its been that way for several years. I can keep on trucking until it becomes too uncomfortable. he prefers doing a total knee rather than a partial. I will leave well enough alone for now . he would be my surgeon if or when I need this. it might just hold steady with mild discomfort going steeply up and downhill but Ok most of the time. no one can tell.

the second time through the functional upper body felt better than the first. she does some minor movements with feet while using weighted arms. needs close attention. Im a little uncoordinated that way but the second time went smoother.

smart move carolyn to reduce weight if you didnt do the workout recently. I routinely do that even if I'm sure I can lift more. with so many workouts, muscle memory is fleeting. 5 lbs reminds and isnt too heavy to cause an injury.
we were prepared to go to our CC company if Dell gave us any grief on the return. that was a mess from the beginning. had not even had it a month.

ETA we got a little break in the clouds this afternoon and rode mt bikes around the neighborhood for 45 minutes. its a compact fairly intense workout. 5 miles.

Today I did LMR Lower Body, 55 minutes, `94 calories, heart rate 112/148, 1, 271 steps. I also did a mix of two LMR workouts, Anytime Mobility stopping at the walk outs on the hands then yoga timesaver #2 floor y 28 minutes, 48 calories. Total time 73 minutes, 242 calories. I also used the back pod and did some extra stretching I did not count.

Today I did a 20-minute walk, 45 minutes of Peloton Strength and LMR Functional Lower Body Foam Rolling Bonus. It’s getting very cold here but we haven’t had much snow at all, just a dusting.

Diane Sue- I had the Bondi 8 and I liked it too. The 9 has a little more cushion which really helps with the Home Depot floors. Great job with LMR Lower Body, Anytime Mobility and Yoga Timesaver #2.

Cathy-Great job with Killer Legs Barre and LMR Functional Mobility Fusion.

Valerie-Great job with functional upper body and the spin warm up. I’m glad your cataract surgery went so well.

Carolyn-Great job with Cardio Super Sets. I haven’t done that one in a long time.

Hi to Shannon

I found out that somehow, I have two workouts at the same time on Monday. I had them down wrong in my agenda book and calendar on my phone. I canceled the arthritis appointment because I really need to follow up with the pulmonologist and it takes months to get an appointment. I have not had the lung nodules rechecked in two years or had much help with dealing with the bronchiectasis from him. I have been seeing the nurse practitioner, and she tried to help with allergies and reflux. So, it is more important to me than the arthritis appointment that is even farther away. Hopefully next Monday is nice weather.

Cathy, I love the LMR Functional Mobility too. I usually do not have enough time to add much with it though. Short cardio works or something like that. That is good that the massage took care of your calf. If my stays tight I get out my massage gun. It helps to rub it out a few times a day. It was fine today. I only used one riser with the high step today on lower body.

Valerie, Amazon is good, but when there is a mess up it is hard to get it fixed. My husband ordered me two pair of athletic shoes I had in my wish list. Same shoe, but one had black soles and one white. I canceled one and they took it off the order and messaged it was cancelled. Then later they sent both shoes, but that pair was no longer on the orders. Then a week later it popped up saying another pair of the ones I am wearing has shipped. I contacted through the chat and they said they could not cancel as it had shipped so just do a return. Hard to explain all of this stuff typing in a chat. The 3rd pair did not come. I think they got the message that I did not want a 3rd pair, but I still have the second pair sitting here in a box. It has been over a month now. How do you return something that is not shown as me getting it?
That is great that you have 20/20 vision now. It helps knowing the doctor is one you can expect to do what is best for you.

Shannon, I was wondering where you went. I hope you had a nice holiday. I have been somewhat absent myself. Just busy.

Carolyn, nice work on Cardio Supersets. I forget what some of the older workouts contain. Someone was doing some of those workouts from the Low Impact Series and I remember some of those were really tough to the point of some dread on my part.

Judy, good job on the 20-minute walk, 45 minutes of Peloton Strength and LMR Functional Lower Body Foam Rolling today.

Hi ladies. My workload isn’t as bad as it looked, mostly because now I’m waiting on information from others before I can do my part of several tasks. Okay, YUCK. We are under a winter weather watch for Thursday and Friday with 4-7 inches of snow in the forecast. I am not happy. Can you imagine trying to get a 12-inch high dog to go pee when the snow is more than half as tall as she is? Oh, and it’s COLD. I do not want summer, no how, no way, but this is really too cold for me, LOL.

I won’t get a workout in today because I’m going to make a run to the grocery store. When I do, I plan to pick up some pee pads as well. Sara has never used them before, but maybe in an emergency I can lay a bunch out in the garage for her.

Workouts … Let’s see, Sunday I did Perfect 30 HiiT, the premix that doubles the low impact HiiT. Yesterday I lifted weights on my own.

Cathy – I’m glad your calf is feeling better. You sure don’t want to tear the muscle. That happened to me once, right at the end of Step Blast. It felt like somebody kicked me in the calf. Oh yeah, Functional Mobility is a real winner! I love it too.

Valerie – you asked about how fast ice can form? FAST. It all depends on the conditions, but I’ve been on the road before during freezing rain, and all of a sudden, you are on sheet ice. Not fun. That’s so awesome about your eye surgery and vision. I’m jealous! But I’m really sorry about your knee cap. Does a brace help to stabilize it?

Carolyn – it looks like lots of people are getting hit by a big system this week. I hope yours doesn’t freeze. Yes, both Cardio Super Sets and After Burn are good metabolic workouts. I totally love them.

Judy – How does your leg feel after the six-hour shift? It sounds like the shoes helped a lot, thank goodness.

Diane – I’m glad you didn’t get much snow accumulation, and no ice! That’s the best news. Ice just totally sucks. Can you change arthritis doctors? It sounds like this guy isn’t very good. I do hope you get some good news about the lung nodules from your pulmonologist.

Okay. I suppose I should get back to work now.

This morning I did or tried to do a Live kickboxing workout, but about 15 minutes in she switched to weights, so I added some combos from KPC, then after breakfast I did LMR Lower Body Balance Disc. Really liked the disc workout. Have some room for improvement, but did well for the first time. I definitely have more stability when only on my right foot. Left did okay, but was more wobbly.

Judy I'd be quite happy if it got up over 30 again, or at least we had more sun! But, when I do have to go out, I just remember Derek has it a lot worse. The other day he had to work, and he's mostly outside, in -10! They closed the zoo to visitors, but that does apply to workers. He had a couple days off and was going to be looking for warmer pants and boots.

Diane Sue if a workout is longer than 40 minutes, I generally only do cardio if I'm up early enough to do it before breakfast. I hope your appointment Monday is helpful.

Valerie it's so great how good your vision is now!

Carolyn I haven't done Cardio Super Sets in years. Sometime I need to pull out those older workouts.

Shannon I think a lot of people up here, keep an area shoveled for their dogs in the winter. Just big enough to work for the size of the dog and by a door. Shannon years ago, within the same year, I tore a connecting fiber to the achilles on each calf. It was crazy. First time going down bleachers at a basketball game and second at a baseball game. I'd likely gone down bleachers hundreds of times in my life, probably more actually.

Today I did a 45-minute Peloton Power Zone ride with a 5-minute Cool Down ride. I’ll probably do something else later but not sure what.

Diane Sue-Good luck with your pulmonologist appointment.

Shannon-Great job with Perfect 30 HiiT and your strength training. That is a lot of snow. We’ve really been lucky so far. My leg feels pretty good so far.

Cathy-Great job with part of Live Kickboxing and LMR Lower Body Balance Disc. It would be nice to have temps over 30. I don’t plan on getting out much this week if I can help it. We are stocked up on groceries so I don’t think I need to go anywhere.

Hi to Carolyn & Valerie

This morning I did LMR Functional Total Body, 55 minutes, 126 calories burned, average heart rate 101, and maximum heart rate 128.

Valerie, that’s great that your medical issues are over and that your vision is good. I don’t blame you for not doing anything with your knee right now. Waiting would be my choice too.

Diane Sue, nice job with LMR Lower Body, Anytime Mobility, and yoga timesaver. It’s easy to double schedule appointments when you have several. I had to make a similar choice between one of my appointments and my husband’s cardiology appointment. The cardiologist is much harder to reschedule. There are definitely workouts from the Low Impact Series that I don’t want to do!

Judy, great job with your 20 minute walk, 45 minutes of Peloton strength, and Lower Body foam rolling bonus.

Cathy, nice job with part of Live Kickboxing, KPC combos, and Lower Body Balance disc.

Hello to Shannon.

we just got back from an intended ski trip but there was almost no snow. areas vary widely on how much snow falls, and we expected much more. we brought snowshoes too so snowshoed for 2 hours instead. definitely not great, crusty driven-on snow, but it was semi sunny so we did it for exercise. my knee was ok but an ankle and a wrist were protesting today. always something! shannon we get a lot of weather in the 30-40 degree range so black ice happens a lot. lots of moisture in the air so freezing fog is another delight. yes, driving along and all is fine, until it suddenly isnt. no way to drive safely on black ice. stay home.
Carolyn, my medical issues are definitely not over with. the eyes, yes. it is done and should be forever. all the joint issues unfortunately dont go away. the knee I hope will give me another year but I expect to need this sometime. some days are good and others not so good for my joints. I need to see cardiology soon and get my pacer battery replaced. it is a surgical procedure, but not complicated. I am still using the original battery from 2009. even a battery sitting unused on a shelf will run down eventually. Im going to set a record for how long I went without needing this. but its time, finally.

Cathy I dont blame you for being cautious with lower leg pain. achilles issues would make you pay attention. your son might like a pair of long johns to wear under existing pants. not expensive and will go under most things. they really add warmth without bulk. get synthetic (or wool) not cotton although even cotton would be ok since he wont be getting wet. you want the two layers to slide over each other so its not restrictive. a lot of synthetic pairs are very slick so they're comfortable. good luck telling your son what he needs to buy!

I have a big difference in balance between right and left sides. I can balance easily on my left foot but the right is a struggle. I keep practicing. I can see it in the new workouts that one side is easier than the other. my left side is stronger than the right even though Im right handed. weird.

Cathy is right about shoveling an area just outside a door. your doggie will figure it out very quickly ! I would worry that peeing inside might develop a bad habit because the fragrance might linger for him.

Today I did LMR Upper Body, 54 minutes, 128 calories, heart rate 92/118. I also did LMR Functional Mobility 41 minutes, 90 calories.

Shannon, we have a forecast for snow Thursday too. I read possible up to 6 inches. They usually sensationalize the weather. More than likely in the pan handle area. Hopefully if it does snow it is gone quickly. My dog used to love the snow and plow all through it as a pup. Now that she is old and gray she stays close to the house if there is very much snow. Although she waits it out a long time. Good luck. My dog is a lab mix. There are not many choices when it comes to rheumatologists. My daughter in law went to the main doctor in the arthritis center for 10 years and quit going. No help. She started another one, but it is way far from me. It takes me an hour and 15 minutes to get to the one I am seeing. I have search for one closer and there is not one. I went to my primary doctor to get my rib pain checked because the arthritis just guessed something. She sent me right to the diagnostic place as a walk in to get x rays.

Cathy, not knowing all of the content of a workout can throw things off. I have been there a lot of times. I wish there was a list of the moves that are on the timesaver premixes on LMR Upper Body. I would have done something shorter today. I still have not done the bonus balance discs bonus upper body. I like the one for lower. I balance better on my left than the right.

Judy, good job on the 45-minute Peloton Power Zone ride with a 5-minute Cool Down ride.

Carolyn, nice job on LMR Functional Total Body today. I had three appointments scheduled the next two weeks. The cardiologist is coming up and I am scheduled for an echo first and then seeing the actual doctor. Hoping things go well there. It is hard to get appointments with the specialists without a long time ahead scheduling. They scheduled that one in two 1 hour slots so I will be hanging around there for a while.

Valerie, sorry skiing was out. At least you got in some snow shoeing. I keep practicing the balance work too. Sometimes it seems like I do pretty well and others not so much.
