pelvic tilts/hip lifts

This is a question regarding the technique for these 2 exercises. I'm new to doing your "core" work and am nowhere near your ab strength-not even in the same solar system!!! This may be a stupid question but I'm looking for the correct form to do these 2 exercises. I believe I'm using my back too much, "jamming" it into the ground, because your lower back is supposed to be "pressed" to the ground. I don't know if it's the weakness of my lower abs or improper movement or what? Any tips? Thank you.

Hi Jules! Same solar system....too funny! When doing a pelvic tilt think of rolling your hips back like the way you open a can of sardines (I hope the cans still open like that, wink). So think of peeling your hips off of the floor and bringing them toward your rib cage. Your navel will remain pressed toward spine (core engaged)as you do this.

When I do hip lifts (as in certain supine upward abdominal thrusts), I brace the entire core region before my hips even leave the floor and I lift, rather, thrust upward trying to keep me knees over my hip region to keep resistance over the core muscles. There is a slight amount of controlled momentum that occurs with this motion.

Take Care!
