pelvic tilt

Hi Cathe:
I saw an instructor on television the other day adding a pelvic tilt to standard crunches. I believe they said it helps engage the lower abs. Are there any benefits to adding the tilt to your video ab routines?
Thanks.
Rachel
p.s. we moved recently and i am just getting back into my routine. this website is part of it and i am happy to be "hearing" from all of my old friends!

pelvic tilts

I find pelvic tilt crunches to be a little more advanced as well as a bit more difficult to execute than standard crunches. I'm not sure of the way these pelvic tilts were performed(since there are different degrees of pelvis tilts out there), but when I do them in my video, I call them reverse crunches.

If you would like to substitute pelvic tilts for standard crunches, I would say its fine to do here and there instead of all the time. My reasoning is 1) Pelvic tilts tend to be more stressful on the back 2) A variety of crunch styles is always better than sticking with one particular crunch.

sorry so ambiguous

Sorry Cathe:
The pelvic tilt to which I am referring is performed in conjunction with a standard crunch, contracting abs on the way up while tilting the pelvis toward the middle/rib cage. This movement is not lifting the "end" up in the air, just pulling in the lower abs and tilting the pelvis inward. I am sorry, maybe I have muddied the waters even more.
Rachel
P.s. thanks for your reply
