Peeps Ringing in 2009!!!!

Ellie..

I thought I was the only one who struggled with driving over a bridge...I really tense up when going over the Walt Whitman in and out of Philly, I can literally feel my knees knocking. I would love to take Diane to a Phillies game or two, but I just can't because of this reason.

We had to fly out of Philly when we went to Disney in November, because the rate was much cheaper. I had to pop Xanax to be able to do it, Diane is the same way.

Oh yeah Jerry, tht's one of the other BIG problems...... AIRPLANES!!!!
You popped 1 Xanax. Ha. I can eat them like M&M's and STILL not get over the bridge. I'm gonna need an IV for a flight to Florida!!!

Heather....I love the quote about "fitness is about freedom, not size"...if more people felt this way, instead of letting a number on the scale bring them down, more people would stick with fitness, props to you for this!

Phyllis...I have an abs contraption type thingy in my closet from many years back...probably bought it during one of my many unfounded promises that this would be the year I would get serious about working out!!! Mid 90's sounds about right!

JJ....8 below...liked the movie...not the weather...but I'll take some of those wings, however!!

Jill...here's to a good night's zzzzzzzz...like you, my rotation got put on hold!

Karin...coke zero for you, diet coke for me, best of luck to both of us on licking this!!

Wendy...I love Muscle Enduance, congrats on this one!

Vilma...I like Peep Daddy better than Mr. Peep...that's just how I roll.

Ellie...If I've accomplished anything on a personal level other than my marriage and my friends here, it's the ditching of the toxic barstool buddies I accumulated over the "Blunder Years"..quick example....a few years ago, our live Christmas tree split in half, and I needed an extra hand, so I had DW call one of my "buds"...he couldn't swing by, he was on his way to the bar for kickoff...I could go on...and on..and on. I hope you are able to do the same!!

Ellie...for some reason, I have never had the slightest problem flying, go figure. You'll do fine in June, because you'll be preoccupied with what to bring me back from your Disney trip...I'm a 2x..just to be safe!

My Goals for 2009

Hi all, I'm back with my goals after some good thought. I actually have quite a few...some are specific, some are general. Here they are:

Nutrition:
*drink 64oz of water each day. I am sorely lacking in that department
*stop using sugar substitutes - I'll just have less of the real thing
*aim for 3 servings of vegetables & 2 servings of fruit a day

Fitness:
*Remember that some is better than none...no more 'all or nothing' attitude!!!!
*Aim for 2 days of cardio and 2 days of strength (total body, circuit, or power yoga) per week. More is okay, too! ;)

Life in General:
*Learn to relax a bit - do yoga at least 1x per week, but nightly stretching or yoga instead of TV would be far more beneficial to me
*Spend more time in the evening with DH & DD (we kind of go off and do our own things)
*Put at least 5% of our paychecks into savings

I think that all of these are doable, and not overwhelming when I think about trying to accomplish them all. I've never taken the time to write down goals, and it is something that I think might make the difference between real success and just doing okay.

I think that out of all of my goals, the one most important to my well-being is to learn how to relax more. Stress got the best of me this past year and landed me in the ER and gave me panic attacks for the first time in my life. My doctor actually told me that I was a compulsive person and if I didn't learn how to relax and stress less, I would be one of those people who get cancer when they have no family history of cancer. That was a big wake-up call for me!

I think that support is so important on so many levels, whether it is for eating, for fitness, or for life in general. It has become abundantly clear to me that all three of those are met here in this group and I wanted to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for being so warm, welcoming, and supportive to one another...and for welcoming me into your group!

Karin--Shocking that you have the same paper mess that I do!!! LOL! We are SO alike!! Why don't you ship a box of paper to my house, then fly down, and we'll have a shredding party here in Dallas? HA!!!!!!!!!

Ellie--Wow, I never thought about the bridge phobia--I guess because we don't have those bridges here in Dallas!! I think I might have the same fear if I lived near water...

But funny you should say it came back when the boys were born. When I was pregnant with Houdini (Newbie Peeps--Houdini is the nickname for my 2 year old daughter, who, about three months ago, started escaping her crib whenever she wanted), a sister-in-law told me that having kids makes you face any fears and phobias you have buried in the past and not fully resolved. SHE WAS SOOOOOOOOOOOO RIGHT ABOUT THAT! Another one of mine--besides the fear of touching fish skin, ha--is I'm a hypochondriac. A bad one.

I cannot read Web MD, Mayo Clinic, articles about people who get cancer...or I totally become convinced I have it. Or I obsess about getting it. After Houdini was born, the buried hypochondria--which I had successfully hidden for years from everyone except for best friends and DH--reared it's ugly head in a big way, resulting in stomach disorders and, like Jill had, panic attacks that sent me to the ER. I'm on anxiety medication (have been for a year now) and it's been the best year of my life. I guess I never realized, but from childhood on, anxiety and worry just ruled my life. I didn't know it could be any other way until I started medication. But I'm not numb, I'm just able to manage my fears much better now. Am I cured? No. (Doesn't help that I can read my doctor's lab reports on line anytime I want...Hmmm. Maybe I should ask to be disabled from that feature? HA!) But can I manage (for the most part)? Yes. Addressing it, owning up to it, is the first part to facing it!! So good for you for putting it out there!

And PLEASE send me tips for organizing, getting rid of clutter, and debt reducing!!! I am being open here that I need some encouragement and help!!!!!!!

I really liked your resolution list, by the way. All good ones! :)

Jerry--You are 100 percent right about getting rid of toxic people and filling live with people who give back as much as they get out of the friendship. Like us Peeps! :)

Jill--Another great resolution list. You'll be able to hit that five fruits and veggies a day EASY. Throw in some fruit with your oatmeal; eat a salad with a few fruits and feggies at lunch--bam! You're already at five! And I'd like to echo what you said about our group. We all found our way together for a reason--through fitness first, now through frienship. I'm glad you are here!!

HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR'S EVE, Y'ALL (HA!)
:) Wendy

Ok, how’s this for crafty: Since peep posts are 3 pages long, and my memory is NOT, I opened a Word doc beside my Peeps thread and will toggle between the two so I can make sure to keep up with all the peeping today! Sheesh… you all had fun without me! Time to join in!

HAPPY NEW YEAR’S PEEPS!!!

Heather: Love your post! You are getting in the right fame of mind and very positive in your tone and hopefully the retreat will be help kick 2009 off in just the right way… a bubble bath sounds so wonderful! Might just have to break out Mr. Bubbles myself this weekend! Also, thanks for starting the GOALS!

Ellie: While it seems that most of you moms are over-achievers (and I say that in the nicest, most admirable way), while you will be saying “NO” I will be saying “YES”! I am generally a loner, have few close friends (actually more in this thread and these boards than in real life!) and generally do not do a whole lot of anything! One of my goals (final list to come later) will be to say “YES” to getting out more and being more active in life! I also understand your fear of bridges, but would hate to be grounded for fear of flying… Not even after 9/11 have I really felt scared to fly… I love the fact that I can leave one point and be in another in a fraction of the time it takes to drive! I love it! While ALL flights are not created equal, and I have gotten a few gray hairs on a few flights (into Vegas) where the weather has bounced the planes around, for the most part it is… yeah yeah yeah… safer to fly than drive! But hey… Xanex is good too!

JJ: I hope you have warmed up some today! If it makes you feel any better, my mom sent me an email this morning that it was 27 BELOW in Alaska today and that was their HIGH! How did you do on your maxes today? Enjoy your party! I’ll be in bed with some of the other peeps by 9pm tonite (well, you know what I mean). And my excuse for NOT cleaning and getting rid of all my junk is that SOMEDAY I MIGHT need that!

Jill: I agree with you about the Peeps and my DH is also wonderfully supportive of my fitness goals and what I have found here on Cathe’s site is invaluable to me! Without it I would be clicking “Roll Again” on my PC Yatzee!

Hi Conni: Welcome to our mad-house! And I say this in the warmest possible sense of the word! We are, like most, flawed, funny, struggling, victorious, happy, sad, underweight, fluffy, but most importantly a great bunch of people joined by one initial common thread (a love of exercise and Cathe) who enjoy each other and support one another in whatever life throws our way! For this fact alone I am truly BLESSED to be a PEEP! Again, welcome and we look forward to learning about what makes you tick as well as you of all of us!

Karin: sounds like you are feeling a bit better than you were the other day… Sometimes simply being home can make all the difference! How did your shopping go, any good deals to be found? I had to laugh at your comment about smelling good while you were gone because you didn’t take all your foofoo stuff with… seriously, HOW WOULD YOU KNOW ~ YOU CAN’T SMELL?! LOL!  but I guess you didn’t get sick until the last part, so maybe you did know… :p it still made me laugh though! Your poor family!

Wendy: WHAT? You mean there is an AB workout on ME? Lol! I’ll have to check that out… I can’t do most of Cathe’s ab workouts, especially some of the stability ball things! They KILL me! That will definitely be a goal in 2009! I am going to try your chicken meatballs this weekend too! I have some whole wheat pasta that I have been dying to try so will just put the whole thing together! HA! You have a guestroom full, I have a GARAGE full! Hope this is another area in 2009 to regain some ground!

Vilma: so glad to have you back! Your Holiday sounds busy too! Your NYE sounds lovely! At least you will have a house full to ring in the new year! Hugs and healing prayers to you and your family for all the creepy crud going around! I’ll also be 42 in February so I know how you feel, although the changes I have been experiencing are not so slow and subtle! YIKES!

Peep Daddy (I mean Jerry!) I hope you enjoy your WW experience… I have been a member for while but rarely use it.. I am recommitting to another daily journaling nutrition planner (FitDay), so keep us posted on how you guys like it! I’m more into better eating habits, rather than eating clean right now… I have no willpower, so when you figure out where to find it, please send me the website so I can buy some! I feel that I need to take the first step in making better habits with food choices and portion control before I tackle taking away just about everything I grew up with! Enjoy your Last Supper, I mean, dinner! Where’d you go and what did you have?

Ok, here are just some of my goals for 2009:

1) become more organized and not such a slob!
2) get serious about my health and fitness. I have had some information from my recent Dr’s appts that have really gotten my attention and highlighted how terribly I have been treating my body! I really do not have a choice, for if I do not make these changes now, I will surely leave this world much earlier than I would like!
3) Get back into doing something creative! While I am not a wealth of creative juices, I do enjoy a good challenge! Hence, helping another fellow Catheite with a project for her mother! I wish to continue along this line and start knitting or something again!
4) Walk the dog! I know this sounds simple, and we do play with our furbaby at least an hour a night, every night, with her all-time favorite ball, it’s just not the same… and she just had a vet appt too and she said that she was a bit too fluffy too! Most of that is DH’s fault as he gives her entirely too many treats! But, the walking would do us both some good… now if I could only get her to use the treadmill! LOL!

Well, I think that about covers the highlights! Hope you all have a SAFE and Happy New Years Eve! And I look forward to spending 2009 with all of you!

Cheers!!!
