Peeping Around the Clock

Peeps Check-in

Peeps:

Good afternoon! It looks like y’all had a party while I was at church. Look at all these fun posts! Church was inspiring this morning. My pastor shared this morning that he is starting a sermon series on health and fitness in January. He wants all of us to be strong and healthy so we can give the devil hell! LOL! Yes, those were his words.

Phyllis, do you fix any traditional Hanukkah foods? I had the opportunity to attend a Passover Seder years ago, so I am more familiar with Passover than Hanukkah. By the way, "sweet" is never a word I use to describe Leaner Legs. Oh my! Down and dirty is more like it!

JJ, Cooper is so cute. I am missing Catherine and her cute doggies now!

Vilma, I had an "attack" of some kind Friday. My heart was racing, I was having dizzy spells, and I kept losing my balance when I was doing something simple like walking across the room or standing in the conference room organizing a file for a client. I am having a food allergy crisis this month too. I gained 24 pounds in 2 weeks after eating soup earlier this month (with hidden MSG in the chicken broth base), and I accidentally ate crackers with MSG because I thought they were "safe" whole grain crackers from Whole Foods. They were from Sam’s. Oops! Welcome home to Peepville! You were missed!

Ellie, do you have any costume pictures of your dog to share? I am sure you still miss her. Do you have any pets now?

Karin, I saw that plane accident on the news during my sleepless night and immediately checked to make sure you checked in yesterday and were not on that plane! The airport in Houston is one of my favorites. It is bright and cheery. Believe it or not, it snowed in Houston a week or so ago! I hope you can find a later flight. I hate the thought of you being on the road at that early hour when it is so cold outside. Please peep in when you get to Jersey if you can even if you only have time to let us know you arrived safely. I am keeping you and your plane in my prayers. Do you have any relaxing music you can listen to?

Dani, how long did you live in Alaska? I would have a hard time in Alaska or even Seattle where it is dark and rainy all the time. I battle SAD in the fall when the days start getting shorter. I need plenty of sunshine! Have you ever tried light therapy? Sitting on front of a light box for 30 minutes of therapy on shorter and darker days works wonders for me! Have fun assembling all the goodie bags for work!

Wendy, I have a bunch of old FIRM videos somewhere if you want them. LOL about the Fage. At least you are raising a healthy eater! Do you have any tips for making that stuff taste less bitter? I love sour cream, but something about that Greek yogurt is too strong for me.

Jill, I love Emergen-C too! I am looking forward to seeing your new avatar! Have fun this afternoon!

Blessings,
Heather B.

OK, just got back from CVS...Would you all believe Houdini's eczema medicine is $62???? And I picked up the only acid reflux med I use and it was $55!!!!!!!! Wow, glad I only have to take it like once a week and not daily or I'd be needing a second job just for meds!!!

Dani--Did you guess I was technology impared? LOL! OK, deep breath, am going to try to hook up the DVD player per your instructions...I'll be back in a few minutes for a progress report and more personals!!!

:) Wendy

I DID IT, DANI!!!!!!!!!!

OK, Dani, I took your advice and it was SPOT ON--I hooked it up!!!!!! LIC is playing right now!!!!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was really easy the way you explained it. DH should be very impressed with my new skill!!!

JJ--Meant to post earlier, but your dog, Cooper, is SO CUTE! I would love to have one just like that in my house, except Mr. Needy Cat and Ms. Snaggletooth cat would NOT approve, LOL!!!

Heather--Fage needs fruit and a natural sweetner to taste good. Some combos I like include honey & kiwi fruit, honey and raspberries, honey and strawberries...or apple butter and walnuts, pumpkin butter and walnuts, etc. It's also good with just honey or maple syrup, or maple syrup and walnuts...But other wise it tastes like a sour cream. (I can eat it that way and so can Houdini, but it is an acquired taste, that is for sure!!)

:) Wendy

YEAH!!! GOOD JOB WENDY!!!

I knew you could do it! :D DH is a little technically challenged (expecially with the remotes! HA! go figure!) so if I didn't "learn" to be, we'd still be watching our TV with rabbit ears!

Way to go Wendy! Enjoy your DVD workouts! :)

Yikes on the prescriptions! Is that AFTER insurance? Yowza, but I have to admit that my insurance does not cover as much (I think it's a percentage) for non-generic Rx's... I quit taking one of my allergy nose sprays because it was too costly... not that I can't afford it if I really NEEDED it but it's the principal of the thing!

HI Heather:

yes, we have been a busy Peeps nest today! Glad your service was very uplifting, and you sound like you are feeling better!

I actually lived in Alaska for 5 years, but DH lived there for almost 28, but I could never live there again... my mom and her husband (and all his kids) live up there, too... which is why I decided to go up there when I got the opportunity to transfer with my job... I don't regret because it is an absolutely beautiful place (except during Break Up ~ when all the snow and ice starts to melt in the spring and gets mixed with all the gravel and dirt they throw on the roads to help with melting and traction during the long winters). I/we lived in Anchorage and that is much more mild (as it is on the inlet by water) than say Fairbanks, which routinely gets down into the -30*'s, and sometimes lower than that, during several long weeks in the late winter... Spring takes about 3-4 days... one day the trees are bare branches, and next thing you know it they all are full of leaves! Definately gives a whole new meaning to Mountains Majesty, too... I never made it much past the airport in Juneau and Ketchikan (southern peninsula) but they have weather more similar to Seattle, lots more green and lush, but still get a good deal of snow...

Boy, you wouldn't know it that I didn't truthfully enjoy the majority of my time there the way I talk about it, eh? lol! Guess it was a love/dislike relationship...

I also look at it this way... if I had not moved there for those 5 years, I would not have meet my wonderful DH!

Hi peeps! Sorry for the mini-freak out earlier about traveling. Geez, I was so stressed out. I could be because I hadn’t even as much as done laundry yet and felt totally overwhelmed. I am such a last minute packer. I’m much better now. I have half of my suitcase packed and waiting on laundry to pack the other part. I have the gifts that we are taking already in the suitcase and it looks like everything will fit.

Dani – I’m glad all of your holiday parties are over. Ours here in town are and I am so over them. I mean they are fun, but enough is enough :). We are going to a family friend’s house on Christmas Eve for dinner and that’s the only other socializing I have to do before going to DH’s family. Then it’s entertainment central and I have to be charming and nice way too much. I end up being very grumpy by the end. I hate small talk.

About spinning… We have a spinning bike at home and I usually do spinervals, itrain, or Cardio Coach workouts on my bike. Some Saturday mornings I do go to a spin class at the gym too. I’m such a brat :). Biking really is much easier on my knees. TBH, one of the big reasons why we joined a gym was because of me. I find the machines there much easier on my knees than squats and lunges and the cardio options are great for bad knees!

About Alaska… I have never been there before but would love to go in the summer. I have lived in Sweden from May-January and I can totally relate about the hours of daylight screwing you up. It was still light out at 3 am in June and then in January there was like 2 hours of sun each day. I will never forget the guys with torches out on the sidewalks trying to keep the pedestrians from falling on their butts!

Vilma – I hope that DD continues to improve and that you and your family have a great holiday.

Wendy – you go girl! Congrats on setting up the DVD player. Yikes about how much it costs for your family’s meds! I am going to miss my Greek yogurt when I am gone. I can only find that nasty Oikos yogurt where my parents live and I haven’t tried to find it in Indiana, but I am not too hopeful. I found a recipe for Pumpkin Proscuitto Sage Lasagna and it sounds kind of interesting, but kind of scary. What do you think?

http://cooking-books.blogspot.com/2008/12/pumpkin-prosciutto-parmesan-and-sage.html

JJ – are you still in your jammies :p?

Jill – are you happy with your haircut? I’m excited to see pictures.

Heather – I have never been to the Houston airport before. This will be my first time. I am excited that we are connecting through Houston and not Chicago or anywhere else in the Midwest. It seems pretty nasty there.

Karin!! OK, I love the idea of pumpkin lasagna--but all the recipes I've come across use heavy cream, or sausage, or both! BUT this one is perfect--no heavy meats, no heavy cream sauce...I'd give this one a shot!!! I tried Giada's butternut squash lasagna last year, but it was so heavy on the basil that it was ick (In my very humble opinion.) So I made it again with sage leaves...still ick. But I'd try this one for sure!!

You'll be in good hands down in Houston tomorrow--the weather in Texas is cold, but nothing to delay a flight!

I am simmering some chicken in pureed tomatoes, red wine, a cinnamon stick, bay leaves, minced onion, garlic powder, balsamic vinegar and olive oil. When you are done, you use some broad noodles, mix them with some of the sauce, then shred the chicken and serve with a little grated romano cheese. It smells amazing right now and I feel very rustic-y. I also pan sauteed some red chard then tossed with a little cooking sherry (foodies! don't gag! It called for sherry vinegar which I thought I had but I had cooking sherry so I used it instead) and a bit of sugar and olive oil and I'll serve that one the side. Dinner is looking very good tonight!!

I think you'll do just fine being charming and nice, by the way. You are here! :)

Dani & Karen--You both sound so exotic, having lived in places like Alaska and SWEDEN!!

Oh! Houdini is crying! Nap time over, gotta go....

Peeps, I just have to say what a wonderful group this is. I never feel obligated to post, embarrassed to talk about things or overwhekmed with personals. It's really a lot of fun for me. And I get some much needed laugh therapy as well. It's funny how many things all of have in common besides Cathe. From the way we dress our furbabies to our insomnia and even our sense of humor. A few of you I have had the pleasure to meet and hang out with and I hope to meet more of you in the near future!!!

Thanks for playing Peep a Boo

Good evening Peeps!

Ellie - I totally agree...I am so thankful that Jerry invited me to join your group. I can see why he likes it so much. And with Jerry in the group, you really can't go wrong ;)

Karin - I do love my haircut! It is so cute and I had the best time while it was getting done...seriously, it is better than therapy going there. We laugh so much! DH is going to take a picture of it in some better light and when I get a chance (it may be a few days, though!) I will post it for everyone to see.

We got DD's gifts wrapped and I wrapped DH's gift while he was downstairs. He rolled his eyes when he saw that DD's Build-a-Bear was from the dogs. But when I was a kid, we usually would get a gift from the dogs and it just seems fun and silly.

I can't believe it's Sunday evening already! I don't know where time has gone and I'm not ready for the weekend to be over! I still have more to do to get ready for the work week!

Wow!!! Busy day in Peepville!!! I'm not even going to attempt personals.

I do remember someone saying something about a circuit rotation in January. I believe it was Karin who had an excellent one of 2 circuits a week, one total body a week, plus 2 days cardio. That's what I'm going to follow.

Ellie...you are so right about this Peep board, I have a blast just stopping by and reading...as you well know, I've met some pretty great people in the flesh as a result of these forums!!

Jill..thanks for the kind words, I knew you had peep material in you, you have so much great advice to offer and a great sense of humor.

It's a pleasure being a peep, thank you all for making my life just a little bit more fun!!

Okay, here are my pictures. What do you think?
