PCOS?

I have been trying to get pregnant for about a year now and a few months. I just got my results back from the doctor that I have PCOS. Do any of you have this? I am pretty sure that I will be put on some fertility drugs but I'm a little worried about the other stuff. I have a Dr. apt on Friday but just wanted some feedback before I go in.

Hi! Just wanted to give you some hope. I too have PCOS and currently 33 weeks pregnant. I dont have all the classic symptoms except for long anovulatory cycles. I had bloodwork done at the third day of my period and my hormones were way out of whack. I did have to go on Clomid to get pregnant but it was so worth it to me. It took my third round of clomid. The first two rounds I used 50mg but the third one my OB bumped me up to 100mg and that's all that i needed. I know how frustrating it is b/c we tried for well over a year but at least you know what you have so you can work with it. Good luck!!

Heather,

Thanks so much for your input. I don't have all the symptoms either but it sure does explain the ones I have! I have a 3year old now so it's just strange to me that I got pregnant so easy the first time. It's a wake up call and makes me realize how thankful I am to have my little girl. I just found a book on line that should help and waiting to hear what my Doc has to say on Friday. Thanks again for replying. I really appreciate the hope!

Hi Heather,

I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 21 years old. I'm 40 now and have 4 kids - 3 conceived with fertility treatments and one "surprise". :) Good luck with your doctor appt.

Erica,
Were you on Chlomid and Melformin? What kind of treatments did you do (if you don't mind me asking)?

My first son was conceived with Clomid and some other meds to regulate my hormones. After he was born, we tried again and Clomid didn't work at all for me. I was on Pergonal and Metrodin (this was in the early 90s - I think Metformin might be the same thing with just a different name). That didn't work and I tried other treatments such as a GNRH pump and In Vitro. We went back to just the injectables and I got pregnant with twins. After my twins were born, we tried IVF and injectables again and nothing worked and we decided our family was complete. A few years later, we found out I was pregnant again.

Everyone is so different, though. It's hard to say what will work for you. It was very frustrating to go through all of the treatments. In my case, the injectables didn't work in low doses, then worked too well in high doses and I would get hyperstimulation syndrome. It was very tricky for my doctors to treat me.

Good luck!!

Metformin...

I went to my doctors apt and she put me on Metformin. She said that hopefully it will work and I will be pregnant in the next few months. If not then she'll put me on clomid also and we'll monitor from there. Here's crossing my fingers! I really feel good about this. I know that if it's meant to be it will happen so I'm hoping it's meant to be.
