paxil

Cymbalta. Tackles serotonin and norepinephrine. However, it leaves patients very sedated. personally that's not acceptable to me.

Some antidepressanats always leave patients with weight gain (i.e. Remeron), but I don't remeber reading that Paxil is one of those. As a general rule, all side effects change in intensity with the individual, so it cannot be predicted whether you will gain weight with Paxil or not. I have heard horror stories about Paxil also, particularly in terms of the viciousness of the withdrawal process when trying to wean off it.

I think it is good to report both positive and negative responses to drugs. No-one out there should ever think of antidepressants as "happy drugs". No way they are that. However, you cannot invalidate Anmy Steppe's experience with Paxil by saying you do not agree with it. No-one can disagree with someone else's biological experience and emotional response to a drug. Amy's experience is perfectly valid, as is yours.

I repeat, we need to be aware of the bad experiences many, many people have had when trying to wean off both Paxil and Effexor for that matter. They are famous for it.

I'll be the one to report the positive about this because I've been on it back in late 90 after I had my younger son because of nervous and panic attack and it help me big time:) I was wean off no problem at all. I went back on it when my father pass away 4 years a go. I've been wean off again no problem. Everybody is different. I've try several and it was not for me. Like Clare said everyone will have different affect from different drugs. Well I like to say I am back on it again since a few months ago because I have really bad panic attacks so for me it's a life savor because it keeps me sane:).

I have taken Paxil on and off for the last several years and it has been very beneficial for me. Anxiety disorders and depression are prevalent in both sides of my family and if I am not careful I can spiral out of control pretty quick.

I had no weight gain or unpleasant side effects at all while on Paxil.

Sometimes with anxiety and depression, people eat less because of nausea and diarhea etc. Perhaps the weight gain being attributed to the drug is really just a person feeling better and resuming normal eating patterns.

How would the drug actually alter metabolism? Anyone know?

Thank you for all your posts most of them make me feel alot better taking paxil. I'm just going to listen to what my doctor wants me to do and I'm hoping paxil works for me so i dont have to keep switching pills.
Take care

Hi there,
I have been on Paxil for six years and love it. It has helped me SO much and I have never gained an ounce. It is important to listen to everybody's experiences and opinions, but make sure you give yourself a chance to find your own opinions on Paxil. Not all medications work for everyone--that's why there are so many different ones out there. Without Paxil I am an emotional, anxious, stressed-out mess. I have tried to wean off of it and have realized many times that I am a MUCH happier person while on it. I have also been in therapy for years and while I don't think it helps a whole lot, in conjunction with taking the Paxil, I am much more healthy and stable. Give it a chance. If it doesn't work, then there are a million other options. Good luck.
