Paxil CR - weirdness??

KimDW

I didn't know what to title it. My husband woke up this morning feeling weird (like everything was moving in slow motion, a drunk feeling, kind of floating like). About 30 days ago he started taking Paxil CR (25 mg) in the evening along with 100mg Luvox in the am and 200mg Luvox in the evening. Neve had a problem like this before with the Luvox. Could he be having a delayed reaction? He didn't go to work this morning because he didn't think (neither did I) that he should drive. Called the doctor and she said that it was odd but to discontinue the Paxil CR for 2 days - if it is the Paxil the feeling should be subsided by late this evening (something about a half life of 21 hours) and then on Weds start taking reg Paxil 25mg. Just a side note: Our insurance co wouldn't authorize a refill for the Paxil CR (we had a coupon for the first 30 days batch) until he tried regular Paxil first for 2 weeks and then if that failed then they'd authorize the CR - what crap!! But anyway, I was also thinking maybe he's got an ear infection. I know I get really dizzy and off when I've got one. Any advice?

Thanks,
Kimbra

Kimbra, I occasionally experience vertigo, which feels how you described it - a very dizzy, bed-spinning sort of feeling. It occurred only periodically and subsided on its own after a couple of weeks. Felt really awful, though. I would undergo a complete physical examination if I was him.

Good luck!

Hi Kimbra,

I was on Paxil in 1994 after a death in the immediate family..I was on it for maybe 2 days and then I stopped because I did not like how it made me feel...let me descrive how I felt:

like I was in a time warp - I was still while everyone around me was in slow motion - and sometimes I was in slow motion and everyone else around me was moving normal...

I know exactly that feeling...the Dr wanted me to stick it out because they thought I would go into depression and that the Paxil would hinder that...but I quit taking it after two days...

hope this helps you!

Best wishes to you and your husband

Judy

Has been taking the Paxil continuously with no break? I didn't quite understand about the no refill. If he suddenly stopped the Paxil, it could be withdrawal symptoms. With most of the SSRIs if you suddenly stop taking them you can have funny symptoms like your husband is describing. I always referred to it as "brain wiggling."

He's been taking it continuously. I wanted to get it refilled before he ran out and that's when I learned of the prior authorization for paxil cr and so the doctor prescribed a refill of regular paxil that he will start taking 10 mg on Wednesday.

Paxil has awful withdrawl symptoms. I was on it for 10 yrs. for migranes.
I went through dizziness, nausea, extreme fatigue. Iwas sick in my intestines like someone was squeezing them.
It was even after weaning off for 6 months.
I finally went to gnc and got a drug cleansing kit. Took it with 64 ounces of water and felt better everyday after that.
I was then researching online.
Paxil is bad news. There have been lawsuits, suicides and many more things over this drug.
Go herbal. St. Johns wort.
I will never take an antidepressant again.

I am sorry but I have to disagree with you. Not everyone is the same. I've been on Paxil on and off for over 10 years been on it for several years and then off several years now back on it. I never had any bad reaction to it. It help me big times when I had to go on it when my father pass away a few years ago. I think with any drugs their can be different side effect for each person but I am glad that you are off it and doing great.

Anti-depressants are very effective medicine. They are successfully used by thousands of people with few side effects. Each patient needs to determine which works best with their system so to speak.

I have been taking Paxil on and off for almost 2 years and I have had few side effects. The most annoying I have noticed is dehydration and cramping when I run oddly enough. Prior to Paxil, I tried many others and suffered from confusion, and the inability to have coherent train of thought so to speak. Doesn't make those medicines bad, just makes them incompatible with my system.

My doctor told me regular Paxil was discontinued and that the continual release formula (CR) was the only one currently available. The dosage is higher than the original version. Also, it seems strange like a previous poster said that they would give a 30 day free trial because it can be dangerous to abruptly stop medication.

I don't under understand why he told you that the regular was discontinued when it is not because that is what I am taking. For some reason he told me that the (CR) wouldn't work for me knowing my history and to stay with the regular Paxil.
