Party Peeps in Detox!!!!

Peeps:

I am up after midnight after a spontaneous trip to Austin and decided to start our check-in! My restful Sunday was a fun day. I laughed and had a great time with my Sunday school class, found some Fiber One bars for Laura, and took a nap. My friend Rebecca called this afternoon and asked if I could be ready to go out in 30 minutes. I asked her if she wanted to go to the club and jog in the pool. She wanted to go to Austin. I have been telling her for months that I want to visit Whole Foods for the first time. We have been talking about taking a road trip, but I thought it would be on a Saturday morning. I am a fun loving girl and was ready for a little adventure. We stopped at a rest area on the way there, and she told me not to eat a snack because we would eat at Whole Foods. I could not imagine what she was talking about as I was envisioning the deli at HEB. I was hoping to go to a nice restaurant in Austin because I had no idea what Whole Foods would be like! We visited 6th Street in downtown Austin. There was not much activity or live music tonight, but we laughed and had a great time. The Whole Foods in Austin is in the middle of all the fun. This place is like Disney World for foodies with 80,000 square feet of goodies! Wow! Just wow! I was experiencing sensory overload from the time I walked through the door. I am glad I went hungry because I found plenty to eat. Whole Foods has a "try before you buy" policy with samples of everything. Rebecca had to exhort me not to fill up on cheese (my favorite food) in the first section of the store. I was expecting this to be a "health food" store, so I was not prepared for all the temptation I would face. I made the most of the opportunity and sampled a lot of squash and roasted veggies, but hated the texture. Yuck! I tried to roast veggies earlier this year and did not like them at all. Now I know that my cooking skills are not the problem. I simply do not like clean veggies! Sweet potatoes are too mushy for my taste too. Is there any hope for me? (Wendy, I need a veggie intervention!)

The desserts and pastries in the bakery section are out of this world. I savored the Southern comfort food like macaroni and cheese and cheesy potato soup (made with potatoes, heavy cream, organic butter, and garlic). The store employees are so warm and friendly. I wonder if security was telling them to keep me away from the food samples?! LOL! I wore my "Jesus Loves Strippers" tee shirt, which was a big hit in that city. A bunch of people approached me and complimented me on it. I was not expecting it to be such a conversation piece.

Rebecca and I wrapped up the night with root beer and brick oven pizza on the patio and enjoyed the beautiful weather. Her husband thinks we are nuts for driving 4 hours for pizza! LOL! He changed his mind when he found out that we bought pizza, root beer, and pumpkin cheesecake for him. Oh, I got my pumpkin cheesecake fix. I bought a tiny 4-bite pumpkin cheesecake and savored every bite. Here is a picture of the yummy "whole" foods you will face if you visit Whole Foods in Austin (with the mini pumpkin cheesecake on the third row):

Monday will be detox day! My feet are definitely tired tonight after all that walking. Hopefully, I burned off a few of those calories! Laughing my butt off counts as exercise, right? Time to relax in a warm bubble bath and ice my feet.

Wendy, which Whole Foods Market do you visit? Is it as much fun as the one in Austin? You may find this hard to believe, but I am a very picky eater. I like dishes with a few simple ingredients. The bad news is that I want at least one of those ingredients to be butter or cheese or chocolate or peanut butter. Pasta, bread, and sugar are good too! My favorite veggies are white potatoes (preferably mashed but baked are good too) and corn. I love lima beans too. The best way to get me to eat veggies is to sneak them in something good like carrot cake with cream cheese icing. My friend Rebecca wants tips for cooking spaghetti squash. She tried it once, and it did not taste like pasta at all. Your mission if you choose to accept it is to help me learn to like clean veggies. Many have tried. Many have failed. I can give up the processed food that is not beneficial for me (or limit it to small portions in moderation). Choking down veggies is another story. Do you really enjoy them or just discipline yourself to eat them because they are good for you?

Hugs to Catherine, Dani, Ellie, Jerry, JJ, Karin, Laura, Robin, Vilma, and any other Peeps who visit today!

Blessings,
Heather B.

Heather and All Peeps Good Morning!!!

I have not been online since a few days and sorry if I missed any important news so please fill me in if anything

I need a detox day also - my weekend was crazy and already started with some Cheesecake Factory Pumpkin Cheesecake and baklava.

That photo has many triggers for me Heather - OY!

We have no Whole Foods in my area but have always wondered about them.

I need to drink more water than usual and just jump on my TM with Itread 13/30 and then swing my kettlebells for a bit and try the manmaker from The KettlebellWay 2 if I can time it all right.

The weekend started my crazy holiday food shopping and ugh I'm not ready for it all.

I need a day to just be a regular boring day and not carpool kids... sigh I can dream right?

Well talking about kids I need to log off soon so I can start my day here.

Hope all the Peeps have a great Monday!

Barely Peeping

Today is the combined funeral for my dear friends. I need to shuffle schedules for kids and get myself together. Obviously no w/o for me, unless crying counts.

I hope everyone has a great day
Thanks for your thoughts and prayers

Peeps Check-in

Peeps:

Good morning! Mercy! I am dragging my wagon with a bad food hangover. Ugh, ugh, ugh! What is so healthy about Whole Foods? Shopping the perimeter of the store does not work in that place. All the yummy baked goodies and soups and Southern comfort foods are found there. They do not use MSG as far as I know. That is a good thing for my food allergies, but I am still in desperate need of a serious detox today. I look pregnant this morning. I do not swell like this unless I eat a food allergy trigger. I am staying far, far away from the scale. Higher Intensity Step was on my rotation this morning. I got it done, but it was not pretty.

Vilma, I need to drink plenty of water today as well. I may sweat it out in the steam room at the club after my Zumba class tonight. Thankfully, there is no Cheesecake Factory around here.

Ellie, I am keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers today. Hugs!

Blessings,
Heather B.

Guten Morgen, Peeps!

Ugh, still fighting this nasty head cold. Even though I feel much better today, I'm still tired. I called in sick at the office (all of my travel is done for this week, they shouldn't miss me much) and will take Houdini to Grandma's as planned. Then I'm going to come home and take it easy, and maybe do something simple like Basic Step this afternoon.

Heather--You have discovered the joy of Whole Foods! And you went to the mothership of all Whole Foods--the one in Austin is supposed to be the best one! I go to the one in Plano, Texas, and it's much smaller. :( We also have Central Market, which is cool but I protest it because in the produce section, you have to weigh your own produce, type in a code on a computer, and print all your price labels. I'm sorry, that just annoys me so I won't shop there. (Goofy, I know, but I don't like to work at my produce shopping!)

Now, I'm the exact opposite of you--I do not like Southern home cooking, or foods with lots of cheese or butter in them. I'm a purist when it comes to food, LOL. I do like the occasional sweet, like a slice of pastry here or there, and pumpkin pie, but even on pies I scrape out the filing and leave the crust because that's just butter and shortening and I don't like it. My sugar tooth has really gone down since my pregnancy, so a few bites of really dark chocolate after lunch pretty much solves the craving for the entire day.

OK, I'll try to accept your challenge but it's going to be hard because I think roasting brings out the best flavor in veggies! Can you eat any of the following?

Tomatoes
Green Beans
Zucchini
Acorn Squash

Let's start here and see where we can go! I do have a healthy recipe for fresh corn you might like:

Sauteed Corn with Fresh Thyme

*4 ears of corn, kernels shaved from the cob
*1 TBSP Butter
*Pinch of sugar
*Kosher salt and black pepper to taste
*2 TBSP Fresh Tyme

In large skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Add the corn, sugar, salt and pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally to prevent burning, until corn is carmalized, about five minutes. Stir in thyme and cook five minutes more.

This is really good (the corn will start to turn brown in spots) and tastes really fresh. Might be a good place to start.

And where can I get a Jesus Loves Strippers T-shirt? LOVE THAT!!!

Vilma--I will join you in a water day to flush this crap out of my system! You have a good workout on tap for today! Oh, and count me in on the baklava love! Now that's one treat I LOVE LOVE LOVE. The Swiss Colony makes a bite-sized sampler baklava set which my Mom gets me at Christmas. It's great because one little piece a day doesn't seem quite so harmless...at least I tell myself that...

Ellie--Continued prayers and hugs for you, my friend. My thoughts are with you today.

:) Wendy

G'Day Peeps:

Just a little "down under" greeting this morning. Well, there must be an epidemic in peepland cuz I ate way too much this weekend as well and feel the bloat. I've already mixed up a pitcher of my favorite detox of pure cranberry juice & water (from Ann Gittleman's Flush the Fat plan). This works so well and by tomorrow, I will feel myself again.

I'm planning on KPC today but won't push too hard since I'm sore from my kettlebell workout yesterday.

Heather~ What a fun post! Sounds like you had a great time. I have never been to Whole Foods even though there are some here in MN. Maybe I'll have to make the trip sometime. Thanks for the photo...my mouth was just drooling! I'll be joining you in the detox today;)

Ellie~ {{{{HUGS}}}} I'll be thinking of you today.

Vilma~ I hear you about the holiday food shopping frenzy and I'm not even having Thanksgiving at my home this year:confused: I still have to make a bunch of side dishes and cake since we celebrate my Dad, DH, and twin nephews birthdays which are on W, TH, & F. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get a regular boring day real soon;)

Wendy~ I hope you can flush this bug out of your system and start feeling better soon! I'm with you on keeping food simple and I love roasted vegies! I rarely use cheese or sauces and much prefer a little olive oil and herbs/spices. Thanks for posting all these yummy recipes.

Waves to Catherine, Robin, Karin, Laura, Dani, Jerry and all who follow. Have a great Monday:)

Greetings from another overindulger this weekend! DH and I ordered pizza last night and I was so hungry and I ate a lot of pieces, though I won’t go as far as admitting how much that actually was :). Tonight we are going to the gym and I’m not sure if I will do cardio or weights. I’m trying to be more of a do what I feel like girl right now than a rotation girl. Rotations stress me out and they make me do what I don’t want to do. I’m going to try this route for awhile.

My day started off lovely. I usually drive to the park and ride near my house and get the bus. It’s a parking garage and it pretty big, but we also live in a college town where many people take the bus to the airport. I think that a lot of students left this weekend for home and the freakin’ thing was almost full. I had to park all the way on the top level and then had to run down the stairs and run after my bus. I am always early for things so this really stressed me out this morning. Tomorrow I am finding another park and ride to go to because the usual one will probably be full tomorrow morning.

Heather – I have never been to Austin, but would love to go. My DH interviewed at UT Austin for a faculty position and got it but he also got a job offer here so we decided to stay here. I love going to Whole Foods. It’s my entertainment, but thankfully I only have to drive 10 minutes to get there. I love their bakery department. They used to have this almond joy muffin, which had coconut, chocolate chips, and almonds in it. It was to die for. I haven’t seen it in awhile, so I think I might have been the only one that liked it :).

Vilma – glad to see you back. I love pumpkin cheesecake and I hope that you enjoyed yours.

Ellie – Sending you positive vibes to make it through this day.

Wendy – sorry to hear that you are still feeling off, but at least you are feeling better. That corn dish sounds fab! I’ll have to save it for when corn is in season next year.

JJ – I’ve heard about the cranberry juice/water detox, but never tried it. Do you put lemon in it too??

Karin~ LOL!! It is very hard NOT to overindulge on pizza. I don't put lemon in the cran/water but I suppose you could. I use R W Knudsen's unsweetened cranberry juice which is pricey but works well. It is somewhat tart and not sweet at all so it might take some time getting used to. I lose the bloat very quickly and it keeps me (ahem) regular:eek:

Good afternoon, peeps...

DW and I just got home from a matinee, we saw Bolt, the new Disney movie, and loved it!!!! Me loving something from Disney, what a shock, huh??

Although I didn't overindulge this weekend, I did more than my fair share in Disney World, and realized the old statement is indeed true...we are what we eat....I ate lots of junk, and coupled with my lack of exercise, made me so sluggish it was a chore to get out of bed some days!

This evening I think I'll either do Cardio Conditioning (KPC Premix), or a walking/jogging interval tape from Leslie Sansone with DW. Whichever one I don't do this evening will be my workout for tomorrow, along with my morning yoga routine I now do.

Talk to you all later!

HI peeps! I am running out of steam today! I just got done with High Step Circuit in lieu of the November rotation w/o since I did BC yesterday! I didn't want to do MM tonight! I know, I'm a whimp!

Heather: OMG! we went to Whole Foods tonite too! YOWSA! I had to walk with blinders on past the pastry counter... They have such an AWESOME meat counter that we go there almost exclusively for stuff like that... In fact DH bought a duck to roast for Thanksgiving... since it is just the 2 of us, he is doing that for himself and a cornish game hen for me... couldn't justify a whole turkey, or even just the white meat... I'm not much for leftovers! Sorry about your food hangover, but you are strong and will overcome!

Vilma: sorry for your crazy weekend... mine was crazy but for a totally self-induced reason!... but should be joiing you in your water intake, but for some reason just have a hard time drinking it... I have a fridge in my office and a case of water under my desk, but forget to drink it... I have to have it ice cold, so if I get it out, I have to put it back to keep it cold and then forget about it... :( oh well... will work on that... hope you manage to get through all your shopping in the next few days!

Ellie: Today will be hard for sure, but being able to say good bye will help bring closure and the pain will eventually subside and be replaced with happy memories... Hang in there and your Peeps are here for you, day and night, rain or shine, day in and day out!

Wendy: I'm so sorry you are still fighting your cold! Hope you kick it soon! At least you can have a rest day and do what you feel like, even if it is just curling up on the couch! Oh, and can you make me LOVE veggies without all the butter and cream sauces, too??? My DH would PAY for that! I tend to steam the crap out of my veggies, thus losing all the valuable vitamins, etc... but that or canned is about the best I can do right now... I have managed to avoid anything green, red, yellow, orange or... hmmmm you get the point here doncha? I was raised on meat and potatos and I LOVE them... So, I do like corn, green beans (although not fresh), asparagas, steamed broccoli, potatos, sauted mushrooms (not nuts for fresh ones), carrots (fresh not cooked)... OMG... maybe only one uf us veggie-phobes is all you can handle at once! LOL!!! I do like your corn recipe though... can't recall what Thyme tastes like though... may have to try that... DH will cook corn with roasted peppers and such in a cast iron pan until they look all shriveled up and eats them... I'm not much for peppers, so he doesn't have to share...

JJ: nice accent! ;) I'm with ya on the over-indulging and tooday feel a little puffy myself! Hey... might have to try the cranberry and water detox... I could use something other than tea and water to flush the system... have been reading a lot about the "Cleansing" Lemonade thing, but not sure I'm willing to commit that sort of time and intestinal trauma at this point... hope you get your side dish shopping out of the way and don't have to fight the last minute crowd! that always sucks... we did a Whole Foods run and now just have a few snack things to get for the football games!

Karin: I did the pizza gluttony the weekend before.. Dominos (I know, not the best choice but hey... they are cheap and fast) and they had a deal on 3 mediums for $15, so we had PLENTY! I AM happy to report that we didn't eat all three as there is just the 2 of us, but still... it was yummy and easy! Sorry for your parking fiasco! I wouldn't want to go anywhere near an airport parking lot right now! starting tomorrow Vegas will start it's influx of holiday travelers, but hopefully the outlying freeways will be clear of most traffic! and I'm sure we will get off early wednesday to miss all the outbound traffic as well! Better luck tomorrow!

Jerry: Ok, you are giving ME Disney overload! LOL!!! I am truly amazed at the number of adults that get into the cartoon movies these days... and I have to say that I am one of them. I can't wait to get WALL*E! We don't like going to movies much, as neither DH or I can sit still that long, but we DO love our Netflix and Cable... we have enjoyed most of them... I can't stand Seinfeld so the Bee Movie wasn't a hit, and the Flushed one wasn't that great either, but the Rattatouville (sp?) was about the cutest movie I've seen in a long time and even DH liked it (mostly because he is a chef)!!! So, embrase your inner child and thanks for sharing it! it seems to be rubbing off!

Sending waves to Catherine, Robin, Laura and all Peeps that have been MIA lately :)

Well, DH bailed on me for the gym tonight so I decided to workout at home. I just finished workouts 1 and 2 of Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred on exercise TV for the first time. OMG, this workout is pretty hard. My lungs still hurt. Oh well, at least I did something.

Dani - so, when are you going out for apple martinis again :D? How is your job situation? Have you heard anything about your possible new job?

Hi Karin: ah, no... at least not until next months Happy Hour rendezvous! I hope I have learned a valuable lesson (although I swear I said that last time LOL!)... I am NOT a drinker by any stretch... so it hits me harder than most...

As for the job, they did the unofficial Low Ball email just to "test the water" apparently... I have little patience for insulting my intelligence but guess they have to follow protocal.. I set them straight, in a nice polite corrective manner (as they had some bad intel) and they have also spoken to my Branch Manager and he also told them what is expected... they are supposed to be getting back to me this week so we will see... Good thing is that I don't NEED the job transfer, so I have a little more room to hold out for the best deal they can offer, so if it meets our expectations (which has been clearly outlined and sent to them) then we will see what happens... I HATE the waiting AND the negotiations, but if it is meant to be, it will all work out!

Good job, BTW, on the Jillian workout... those shred w.o's are tough! something? are you kidding me? you will feel it tomorrow! Short, but get to the heart of the "issue" right away... I ordered it from Netflix while I was waiting for my first round of Cathe DVD's and really liked it! the 10 minute trainer does the same thing... only 10 minutes but packs a real 1-2 punch! I usually do at least 2 of them just so I feel like I have done a 'real' workout! :)
