Paris Hilton vs. Martha Stewart

The difference between Paris Hilton and Martha Stewart when it comes to serving a jail term: Martha may not be an angel, but at least she has enough class to do the right thing and serve her time. I'm sure she could have easily pulled a similar stunt as Paris did, but she didn't. Paris is nothing but a spoiled, conceited heiress. How sad that so many young girls idolize her.

I had a lawyer friend point out that what Paris did, did not merit jail time. That if she was not Paris Hilton, she would have probably gotten fined, community service, but that her penalty was very stiff.
She was charged with reckless driving, a misdemeanor and driving on a suspended liscence, another misdemeanor. She pointed out that the court system is letting FELONS out because there is overcrowding in the jails, and to have Paris take up a space in jail that could be used by someone who committed a felon is ridiculous.

Now both my friend and I dislike anything about Paris Hilton, but she was stating as a lawyer, that the penalty was too harsh for the crime.

Perhaps that was behind the release more than anything else.

The reckless driving and suspended license charges, while misdemeanors, happened while she was on probation for a DUI. That is why she was jailed.

However, I think the terms of her incarceration should have been worked out between the city and county.

On edit: I agree about Martha Stewart. She seems to have a way of making lemons into a fabulous lemonade.

This is all very interesting.

It was on the radio this AM. All this talk, and I cannot wait to see what is going to happen!

I only know that if the same thing happened in Texas to me (getting charged with "reckless driving" and then later violating probation not once, but two times!) I would be put in jail for MUCH longer! I would have gotten a jail sentence MUCH MORE THAN HERS. I am not supporting Paris Hilton at all.!

Martha realised she had to do the time and got on and did it. She ws looking forward and was out to rebuiold her lost millions. Dignified she was ahead of the media. martha had a brain. Paris might just learn something from her tome inside. She is not a bad person but drink and drive is not on for anyone. It might mature her, but I doubt it. Martha learnt her lessons well!

For me, the biggest difference is that while what Martha Stewart did was illegal, she could not kill anybody doing it. DUI's, reckless driving, etc. can kill somebody! By doing this, Paris (and all the non-celebutantes) put other people's lives in danger. She was already on probation for DUI (which I can't fathom because she defintely has enough money to hire a driver to be at her beck and call). She disregarded her probation and continued to do whatever she wanted with little to no regard for others.

I am glad she got jail time and glad she went back.

As for her "psychological problems" regarding being in jail...WAKE UP, PARIS!!! IT'S JAIL. YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO ENJOY IT!!!
