Paleo Diet Again....

The Paleo Solution by Robb Wolf, and The Primal Blueprint by Mark Sessions are great books. I recently read The Perfect Health Diet, a very good read as well.

Nom Nom Paleo

Paleo interested me because of my digestive disorders. I was detemined to get off Nexuim, and with Paleo I rarely have reflux anymore. I do have greek yogurt, its about the only dairy that doesn't bother my stomach.

I really don't view Paleo as low carb (you can certainly do low carb on Paleo) I eat potatoes of all kinds, I eat whatever type of fruit I want.

It did take a some time to wrap my brain around eating higher fat, but I must say I feel so much better and have more energy. I don't eat Paleo 100% of the time, but most food I eat is REAL food, not processed stuff. I like beer, so I have it on occassion, if I go to dinner with friends I eat what I want and don't worry about whether its Paleo or not. Once you get used to eating this way, you really don't crave junk food, or if you do it won't taste as good as it used to, at least that has been my experience so you're less likely to eat a bunch of stuff not Paleo when dinnning out.

I personally don't think grains/oats/beans are evil, but from my own experiece they don't agree with me at all. I thought I was eating healthy by having them in my diet, but I can tell you they were the biggest contributers to my reflux and bloat.

I have recently started the paleo diet too. So far it is going well, but it seems a little unusual to eat chicken or steak with breakfast. I was eating protein waffles before made with eggs, cottage cheese, and oats and thought they were super healthy! Does any one else ever feel like a bit of an outcast eating this way? And it seems like I am eating a lot of food...however I am breastfeeding right now too so that is taking some extra calories. I am hoping to lean out and have awesome energy with this way of eating. I haven't gotten hrough the first week yet, and am a little afraid I won't be able to maintain this way of eating because it seems time consuming. Any one else feel like they are always cooking? Hoping things get easier so that I can reap the benefits. I read The Paleo Diet by Loren Cordain and was fascinated by the benefits of this way of eating. Any words of wisdom or encouragement from those on the diet for a while would be greatly appreciated!

This will be my 2nd week on Paleo. So far it's been great. I don't feel as if I'm always cooking. I guess because I always made my own meals. I actually find it easier because I know what I'm going to eat. No thinking about it so much. I love eggs so I don't mind eating them for breakfast.
I don't feel any different yet but I also don't feel like I have the the carb flu. I have been going to the bathroom regularly so that hasn't been an issue. I was worried about not getting enough calories but that hasn't been a problem. My only concern that I have is my cholesterol with all the eggs. Sometimes I eat bacon or sausage with my eggs too. So that's why I'm worried about it. I did have a larabar and a sweet potatoe this week.
I read that some say no to bacon and sweet potatoes but I guess we all have to make our own way.
I did find a receipe for paleo pancakes which was so good!

DH had a heart attack about 7 years ago, so we're always concerned with his cholesterol/heart health. He's been eating paleo with me (except he usually has oatmeal for breakfast) and had LDL levels (the bad stuff) so low they couldn't measure it and HDL the best the nurse had ever seen! He's no longer taking Lipitor, just fish oil pills and baby aspirin. He does ride a bike to work and runs a lot, including 2 half marathons so far.

So far all the meat and animal products don't seem to be hurting him a bit. His blood work has really improved since getting rid of wheat, sugar, etc. That stuff really raises triglycerides.
