Pain...What could it be??

Hi everyone.

I know the best thing is to see a dr if I am worried but I am not one to run to the doc for every little thing so I was just curious if anyone could help me out on this. If it doesn't sound serious and does not reoccur on a regular basis I'd truly prefer to NOT be bothered with a doctor's office...

So I ran at the gym today. I did a 30 min interval work out which I have done before. I warmed up, cooled down and stretched. I got off the TM and felt fine but as I was walking back to the locker room I suddenly got this pretty fierce twinge of pain! It occurred kind of where my pelvis/hip meets my thigh in the front. It was a quick twinge but it hurt enough to cause me to stumble a bit as I was walking! Immediately afterwards I was fine. It was like nothing had happened at all.

Anyone have any insight as to what this could have been and if I should be worried??

TIA!:+

Hey fitmom,

I don't want to be an alarmist, but I saw you are training for a half-marathon next month. Keep a careful watch on this as it could be the beginnings of a stress fracture ... endurance athletes are more prone to them. The only way to tell is to go to your doc and get tested. I'm thinking about Brenda and her fracture during her recent IronMan. I hope everything is ok. Deb

Hey Wendy - I have no idea what it could be. But if this is the first time it's occurred, I'd just pay attention and see if it happens again. I expect most of us have random twinges and stuff. If it happens more regularly, then off to the doctor you go!

I have pain in that area from time to time after a run and it's usually one of two things for me, first it's that I've not stretched my hip flexors out enough and two, that my pelvis is out of alignment. If you've been running alot to train for a marathon, you could possibly benefit from some adjustments. Do you go to the chiropractor at all? Just a thought. I love going to the chiropractor - I always feel better!

Hope it doesn't happen again!;-)

I'd also just keep an eye on it to see if it recurs. I have had constant pain in that area and it turned out to be bursitis. It was not fun and I felt like I had broken my hip. The doc told me it was from overuse. So don't worry just keep an eye out and good luck!

Hi cutie pie! Sounds scary but as an isolated incident I wouldn't waste alot of worry over it. Just be a little more tuned into it over the next few days. You're a smart gal and you'll know if something feels wrong and you need to check it out.

I agree about the hip flexors, illiopsoas and rectus femoris to be exact;) These tendons are huge and if the muscle contracts strangely they can really bite. If it persists use ice, not heat for the first 3 days. Stretch when you are nice and warm. They will thank you.

Take Care
