pain in hip joint

Hi Cathe!!!

My hip joint is sore- not really painful just sore and I'm not sure what to do about it. I started taking advil 3x a day and will do it for a week or two. I hate to take time off since I'm losing weight and doing really well with my momentum. I do the following cardio activities: your step tapes (with all the hops, and leaps taken out I modify for low impact), recumbent bike, treadmill plus strenth training. Now I know upperbody won't affect my hip and lower strenth training has been bothering me so I'm going to take 2 weeks off of that. But as for the three cardio activities I do, any suggestions on which ones would be least stressful for the hip??

I'm just so frustrated because it took me almost 2 years to get over plantar faciitis, but I finally beat it, was painfree for several months, not this- aggggg!!!!!!

Hi Marci! I'm really sorry to hear about your hip. I know how frustrating it can be when you are on a roll and then experience a set back. I'm very happy to hear that you are handling the situation so well and treating your body with great respect. The advil and rest will do your body wonders. Since you say that it is not really painful, you probably do not need to go on any strict icing schedule. But what will be helpful is to make time for some hip stretches after an epsom salt bath(bathing first to ensure your tissue temperature is warm and ready to respond to stretching). As far as cardio, I think it would be best to just take a week off of that as well. Then when you come back, ease back in spending extra time with gradual and extended warm ups and after your workouts conclude with hip stretches held for 10 to 15 seconds each. Many times a sore hip will develop from rushing into workouts (especially common with treadmill workouts)and not allowing the hip joint a chance to prepare for that vigorous and highly repetitive movement. Just food for thought in case you may have gone down this road.

To help keep your mind sane;-), stay as committed as you can to your good food plan. Every time you cheat, drop down and do ten pushups. This puts you in a win win position HA! Good Luck!

Cathe,

Thanks for the great advice. Sorry for the double post on my question. I'm guilty of rushing into treadmill workouts. Your step workouts force me to warm up and stretch but doing treadmill I just get right to it. I'm going to start slow and actually get off and sretch from now on. Its gonna kill me, but I am going to take off until Sunday. It is really frustrating though because I really enjoy my workouts.

As far as food, I'm doing weight watchers- just joined recently and its really been a great kick start for me. So I do have a set out plan. I want to have another baby and need to lose a few pounds left over from pregnancies one and two first!!

I have to tell you I am SO impressed that you answer questions on your forum. On most of your tapes you tell us that if we have questions to come to your website and ask and sure enought, you are really here :)

Looking forward to your new tapes- hopefully this hip thing is very temporary.

Marci
