P90X

Hello,

Would those who have ordered P90X give me some input?

I want to order this workout series, but not sure if I should pay all at once, or in installments. What are your recommendations....it will be Christmas before I can get STS. :(

Also, did you follow the food plan? Was it reasonable?

Thanks!
:)

Reese

Hey Reese!

P90X is WELL worth the investment. I've been using the workouts for well over a year now.

Please send me an email if you have any questions, click on my link below.

The nutrition guidelines are good, if you do the portion plan it's MUCH easier than the meal plan. Let me know if you have questions!

When I ordered I paid all at once because at that time a lot of the folks here were having difficulty with their orders and I thought it would cut down on any chaos just to be all paid up. It's a fantastic program and I think you will be satisfied.

I did not follow the eating plan at all, thought I did make a couple of the recipes, which were tasty. I like being in control of my own food, and I find that having to eat according to someone else's plan is just too much work!

HTH!

Sparrow - how much weight have you lost by using the program?

In my own opinion P90X is not worth the investment. If I had known that Cathe was coming out with this series sooner then I never would have ordered P90X. I was unaware that when I bought it that you would have to do the exact same workouts almost everyday for three weeks, before you switched to a new cycle. There were many of the workouts that I just didn't like which means that for three weeks I was stuck for no less than 45 minutes to over an hour 5-6 days a week with no alternative options.

If I were you I would skip P90X and get STS. Not only does STS look more professional but frankly I trust Cathe's knowledge and experience a lot more than Tony's. Also if you don't like one of the workouts in STS fine do it once and then it's over. Every single day will be a different workout and a new challenge.

I must disagree.

Tony definitely knows what he's talking about. Even though his goofiness sometimes belies the fact, he's a knowledgeable and experienced instructor. Both he and Cathe are professionals who know their stuff, but if it came to a contest between the two, up to now, I'd have to give Tony the edge.

P90X is a program that will not only guide you through 90 days of a rotation, but teach you how to plan a balanced rotation and how to integrate recovery within your workouts. And the circuit-style set-up of the weight work is very effective and efficient.

I still consider it the best fitness DVD purchase I've ever made .

For me, it set the standard for advanced home weight training, and it remains to be seen whether STS will equal or surpass it.

I'm just happy that there is more than one advanced instructor out there competing for our business...a bit of healthy competition, and a touch of oneupmanship, is all the better for us!

I have to agree with Isis, that P90X is not worth the investment. But that is just my personal opinion. I suppose you have to experience it for yourself to decide whether or not you like it. I personally disliked it!!

First, about ordering it, I've heard nightmare stories about ordering things from Beach-Body, how they charge your credit card for extra stuff and have difficult customer service. I ordered P90X from EBAY. You should try that... it may be used but you'll get it cheaper.

Now, about the actual program, I agree with Isis that doing the same workouts over and over grew boring and tiresome. There are only 12 DVD's which includes only ONE leg work to do for the entire 90 days. The yoga is way too long - 90 minutes - and again, that's the ONLY yoga DVD. Tony seems knowledgable but very corny -which is okay the first 10 times you hear his jokes. You may want to choose "music only" option after you get used to the workouts to spare yourself from hearing his dorky comments in between actually giving cues on form and such. This program felt way too much like an obligation to me and not fun AT ALL like Cathe's workouts are. After a while it wasn't a challenge, it was more like - oh man, do I really have to do this DVD AGAIN?? I couldn't finish the program because I got sick of it so I can't comment on gains.

But, there are positive stories on this forum about great results. So if you're looking for results and don't mind the boredom by lack of variety or professionalism like Cathe - then go for it! But I say wait for STS!! :)

I could have written the exact same thing!! I paid all at once too because I heard many complaints about their customer service. I had no problems with my order.

I did not follow the diet plan either. I did not lose weight but that wasn't my goal. I wanted to build strength which is exactly what I did:) I was never bored with the strength training w/o's but started to with PlyoX, ARX & Kenpo so I occasionally subbed in something else.

I really liked P90X but understand where other people who didn't are coming from. We all have different likes & dislikes.

Hi! I'm new here (bought my first Cathe DVD last November), but I just wanted to mention that I just bought P90X, myself. I chose not to go through Beachbody directly, but instead purchased it new from an Amazon Marketplace seller. Not only did I not have to deal with Beachbody, but I ordered a brand new P90X set for $102.00 plus 9.00 for shipping, so it was cheaper (I think Beachbody's shipping is pretty high). Of course, there's no payment plan that way, so if that's the way you decide to go, I guess Amazon is out. Shipping was very prompt. I ordered it Friday morning, and it was in the mail when DH picked it up this evening (Monday). I don't know if I'll like it yet, as I'm just now opening the box and sorting everything out, so I guess I will have to get back to you on that one. I will be starting P90X in September. I'm pretty sure I won't be doing the nutrition plan exactly as directed, just trying to eat clean. Here's hoping I like Tony as much as Cathe (or at least, almost as much)!

I did not like P90X the first time i tried it but now I would say it is good to own it. Now that I have learned about core stablility and practiced functional movement, I have a better insight into P90X training. I would say P90X would be similar and yet different from STS. If you can afford to have both P90X and STS, go for them. There would be some exercises there which you won't like. For me it would be the yoga and kickboxing since there are better replacements. However, the others like plyometrics is good. All in all P90X is not easy and you actually need to get over the initial feeling of not liking it per se. However, it gives good overall workout and train your upper body strength real good. I think it is a good mix with STS. I know I will go for P90X after I finish with STS and vice versa.

I've had the P90X series for awhile and I love it... I think I paid in installments which worked out fine for me. One thing I found challenging was that he does a lot of chin ups and I don't have the equipment for it. I didn't want to install a chin up bar in my doorway. I faithfully use most of the dvds, my favorite is yoga! Hope this helps

Hi

I had the same problem on chin up but found ways to improvise it until i can do it. Here is a link on how to improvise if you can't do chin up or don't have the equipment to do it.

By the way, P90X+ is something else, much more interesting.

Hi-
I have P90x and have a mixed opinion on it... Here's my .02 for what's it worth:

Pros:

The back, bis, and tri strength work in this series is amazing!! I saw huge gains in definition for those body parts. I went from being able to do barely 1 unassisted pullup to about 8.

The Ab Ripper DVD in this series is a great ab workout.. I saw big improvements in my core strength with this workout.

Tony Horton.. OK, he's pretty hot and I think he's funny. He is a pretty decent instructor to boot!

Innovation- there was a lot of fun new twists on standard exercises. The format of the series is really good too.

Cons:

I would have liked more cardio in the series.. there just wasn't enough for me so I ended up doing my own on the side.

Leg workouts.. I lost definition in my legs during the series because you don't use much weight and for me, I'm a pear shape, so it takes alot for me to see changes in that area.

Chest Workout.. its based mostly on pushups.. I lost definition in my chest area as that I get better results when I'm pushing alot of weight for this body part.

Some of the background exercisers are annoying.. specifically one of the women... not that big of a deal though. ( its the one on the back/bi or the chest/back DVD, can't remember.)

Ab work.. would have loved another ab workout other than Ab ripper.. that one got old after doing it so many times.

Overall.. I think its a great series and so different than any of Cathe's stuff pre STS. I now go to the gym for my strength training, but I still use many of exercises I learned from the P90x series in my routines.

I say GO FOR IT!!!!

Another vote for p90x

For me p90x has allowed me to make strength gains that I never did with Cathe's workouts (not that they aren't excellent) because you are allowed to lift at your own pace and take little mini-breaks - not at the expense of sacrificing form.

Cathe's form of lifting where you are supposed to go at her pace simply has not allowed me to be able up the weights significantly, especially when you're going from 12 to 15 or 15 to 20 lb dumbbells. It has only been when I've finished a p90x rotation that I've been able to up the weight doing Cathe workouts.

I asked about this for the STS system and was told that again it was recommended to go at Cathe's pace, which was the deal breaker for me. I love Cathe's workouts, but when I'm in the mood to really up the weight and build strength, p90x is what has worked for me. Agree with others, it's weak for cardio, but easy to sub in other workouts for these days. Am eager to try p90x+ at some point. I also frequently sub in other yoga workouts as his clocks in at 90 minutes. Or just substitute the stretch tape which is also excellent.

Cheers!

Opinion about P90X user

I bought the P90X program about a 1 1/2 years ago. They are great workouts. If you do each workout and push yourself you will feel it and see the results. My only gripe is that you are doing the same routines over and over with not much variety. I tried getting through the the program on 3 separate ocassions and burned out because I lost interest by the 7th week. When I had the routine down and no longer needed cueing, I started muting Tony and listening to my Ipod or even watched movies on a portable DVD to get through it. Having said that, I was very happy with the results even after only 7 weeks of use. The combination of exercises are very effective, but I could not do the same workout one more time. I can only imagine how great I would feel and look had I completed the series. That will not be the problem with Cathe's STS series. Also, I think with the STS series, there will be no "wasted" workouts figuring out what weight to use with each exercise because of the workout manager and 1 rep max calculator. So if anyone is deciding on trying P90X or STS, I would probably go with STS. I know I will be engaged longer and motivated to finish because no 2 workouts are the same.
Good Luck,
Whatever you decide, keep moving and working out. Only you will know what is best for you!
