P90X

I'm mixed on P90X, too. Although I learned how to do straight leg pushups using this series, I also developed bad tendonitis in my shoulder as a result (doing 124 pushups in one workout was exciting, but now I can't do any without pain). My issue with P90X is the repetitive nature - obviously creates overuse injury risk. I just found I started to get bored with it really fast. Some of the discs are way too easy (kickboxing is just silly in this series). So for the price, I don't know that the value is there. The Core video is interesting (I don't like AbRipper at all, but the other one). With that said, I haven't done this workout in months. I'm getting back into Cathe, but it's now slow going because of my shoulder. I'm debating whether to get rid of the P90X at this point. I suppose I'll wait until STS comes out, and decide from there.

Agreed - love P90X

I must disagree.

Tony definitely knows what he's talking about. Even though his goofiness sometimes belies the fact, he's a knowledgeable and experienced instructor. Both he and Cathe are professionals who know their stuff, but if it came to a contest between the two, up to now, I'd have to give Tony the edge.

P90X is a program that will not only guide you through 90 days of a rotation, but teach you how to plan a balanced rotation and how to integrate recovery within your workouts. And the circuit-style set-up of the weight work is very effective and efficient.

I still consider it the best fitness DVD purchase I've ever made .

For me, it set the standard for advanced home weight training, and it remains to be seen whether STS will equal or surpass it.

I'm just happy that there is more than one advanced instructor out there competing for our business...a bit of healthy competition, and a touch of oneupmanship, is all the better for us!

Gotta love P90X! Well worth the $$. You may be able to pick it up cheaper on ebay like I did.

Wow,thems fighting words, . . (just kidding). Cathe versus Tony, . . hmmmm I wonder. Actually, I'm happy to read this from you Kathryn. I trust your opinion and I've gone back and forth with whether or not to buy P90X. I just may have to take a closer look. My only set back that has stopped me and I know everyone will think I'm a total dork about this is, . . the music. I really care about what kind of music is in a workout DVD. I get more pumped and am more opt to workout if I like the music and I heard that the music is just the standard elevator, style music you typically hear in most workout DVD's.

At first, I didn't care for P90X at all! Especially the music!!!! (my husband would come through the house and say, "I'm telling Cathe....this just doesn't even "sound" right" . And Tony got on my nerves....by the end of the first week, I was looking forward to his little arrogant remarks. I saw the "soft" side of him through YogaX which was adorable. You have to keep in mind too that I'm a music person also - I love Cathes Imax 2 music (the 80's is what I really like) but after the first week and I'd put the dvd in...My head was boppin' to it!!!!

Don't get me wrong, I love Cathe's workouts and I never thought I'd care for another instructor as much as her. But after the results from P90X - and the music - I'm hoping STS is in line with Tony!!!!:D

Some of the background exercisers are annoying.. specifically one of the women... not that big of a deal though. ( its the one on the back/bi or the chest/back DVD, can't remember.)
I think I know who you're talking about: a young woman, who has this snotty way of saying "*I* did X number of reps!" and who you can't turn off completely by chosing the 'instruction only' audio option (I'd like to smack her upside the head!!)

Bad music can be a deal breaker for me as well, especially with cardio. But I wouldn't say P90X music is the standard music you hear in most workouts. More jazzy, perhaps? But it's not very loud, and to tell the truth, I never really noticed it much! That's actually a good thing, because the point isn't to use it to follow the beat, but to go at your own pace.

There is also a "music off" option, so you can play your own rockin' tunes.

(Some people at VF seem to find the music in Cathe's clips on Youtube to be reminiscent of P90X music. I didn't really think so, but again, I didn't really pay much attention to P90X music).

i bought the p90x chin up bar. it does not need any screws. it fits over the door like a doorgym except the p90x chin up bar is higher up so it is more of a challange. it is needed for p90x+ in order to do the abs.

Worth it!

Hi,

I'd have to say that P90X is worth the money. The project of coming up with a home workout rotation that was actually challenging and had the kind of production quality that this series has really is worth applauding. Individual preferences ofcourse would = some people not liking e.g. the instructor or the rock music...but if you think about how this series has a balanced rotation, differing rep counts, quality production, NO DANCING around, and well...in my opinion the music actually is appropriate to weight lifting, it's pretty darn amazing compared to what Beach body or other infomercial products have to offer. In fact, better than popular home workouts have been producing.

I love my P90X chinup bar! I didn't screw mine into the door either, just put it up when it's time to use it and take it down when I'm done!
