P90X Yoga

Cathlete
I just did P90X Yoga for the first time...well....I tried it once before and only made it for half of it. This time I did the whole thing. I really did like it. I was really sore in my ribs and shoulders. I liked the ab work at the end. What any one else sore too??
Alicia

Hi Alicia.

I don't recall getting sore from it but it definately works the muscles! I really like it as well. It took me a few times before I was able to make it through the entire work out simply because I was never a yoga person and couldn't bare the thought of doing it for 90 solid minutes! LOL I love it now but do still think it's a bit long so I tend to shorten it up or sub in another yoga dvd at times as well.

Glad you liked it!

Hi Alicia,

I did it for the first time last week. I only intended to do half but I was enjoying it so much I did the whole thing. I don't do yoga as much as I'd like but after doing this, I will definitely do it more. I felt so strong and flexible after I was done. I liked that he included a lot of balancing poses which a lot of workouts don't do. I felt it was a very well rounded yoga workout. I usually do Bryan Kest but Tony was great.

Have never tried that dont own any of the p90x dvds but sounds like they are very challenging so may have too but have any of you ever tried power yoga at a yoga studio in a heated room? omg i did and let me tell you TOUGH!

i go to a yoga studio and have done bikram in a heated studio and its tough. I am going to order this one now on flickety fit and try it. I am curious to see how tough it is. THanks

Sorry, I don't have much to add. I did about 20 minutes and I liked it, BUT I don't have a yoga mat and my feet were slipping on the carpet so bad that I couldn't hold a pose. I will buy a mat soon and try it again. I was liking it at the time, though ;-)

Wendy,
I love yoga but I agree that this one is a bit long - it would have been ideal if this DVD were chaptered and had some premixes. See how Cathe spoils us? :) I'll probably wind up doing what you're doing - breaking it up and subbing at times.

Alicia,
I went to do this DVD for the first time yesterday (I just started the X last Monday). I had to stop about 30 minutes into it because of a migraine headache. (I woke up with it in the morning, but since it wasn't as severe as others I've had, I thought I could handle some yoga.) I didn't realize, however, that there were so many downward facing dogs in this one! The inverted position was just too much for me. I feel better today, so I'm going to give it another go. Anyway, lot of rambling to get to this point: I kept the DVD running for preview purposes and I can easily see getting DOMS from this! I'll let you know if I do.

I'm a big fan of YogaX, all 90 minutes of it. I'm just finishing my first P90X rotation, and haven't subbed YogaX at any point. 12 weeks later, the routine feels much less intense, I've improved my flexibility, my standing leg endurance has increased significantly, and my booty is perky. It's definitely an athletic-based yoga routine, and complements the whole P90X program.

Cheers,
Sandra

Sandra!

Sorry to hijack this thread but I just love your Picture Trail! Especially the pic of Katie with folded hands on the step! Too cute! Which workout is that on? I love her weighted hands! :7

RE: Sandra!

Ahhh, thanks Debbie! What kind thing to say. I think that workout was SJP. She loves to "play" along with Cathe's workouts. And those weighted gloves (1 lb each) were her idea, not mine! Almost every morning will go over to the step and drag it out, put on the gloves, then tap at the tv screen until I put a workout on for her. It's amazing how much the little ones love Cathe. I guess it's because she's so familiar with her, after bopping around with her so much during gestation LOL! SJP/SB are her favourites.

I hope all is well with you!

RE: Sandra!

My husband and I saw the Power 90X infomercial today. I'm so close to breaking down and I just may if I decide not to preorder from another new instructor that I thought was going to be an automatic preorder like Cathe is for me. I'm not so sure about her now and may use this as an opportunity to finally break down and order P90X. Decisions, decsions....one day I will be posting that the deed is done!

After a 6-mile run yesterday, I only managed 45 minutes of YogaX. It *is* intense! I have taken 90 minute yoga classes before, but this one is a bit too long for my tastes. I will probably be breaking it up. I do have DOMS in my back, but I did L&B the day before, so I think it's attributable to both. I definitely felt it during the upward dog and spinal twists. But I wonder how I'd be feeling if I lasted the whole 90! It's definitely athletic-style yoga!

I think I have the attention span of a gnat:7 so this tape is way too long for me! Plus yoga is the one thing I really have a tough time doing because of my bad hip-switching positions kills! So I attempted this tape one time and did not like it. I DO love the stretch tape though, it is long, but I understand the importance of stretching! I like all the P90x except the yoga, cardiox and the core synergestics--I just don't get that one for some reason.

LOVE ... LOVE .. LOVE YogaX ..

Never thought I would like anything better than Byron Baptiste .. but I LOVE this workout.

I do yoga (not usually for 90 minutes).. and the first time I did it I was sore in my obliques and a bit into the shoulders ...

I was surprised the 90 minutes went so quickly .. but I LOVED it .. did I say that already? LOL

One thing .. you could stop at 30 min. or 60 min. and skip to the last chapter if you want a shorter workouts or want to build up to the entire 90 minutes .. Cathe's premixes does spoil us .. but it is easy enough to skip chapters .. ALTHOUGH .. try not to .. the entire workout works together to work EVERY muscle ...

If you never have done yoga and you made it thru P90X yoga .. DANG GIRL .. you did GREAT!!!!:D

Keep it up and you will see major improvements in your flexibility and endurance!!

Every time I do P90 yoga I feel it in my hamstrings and abs the next day. Really do love this workout just don't do it that often.

Thanks all for your replies!
I haven't done stretchX yet. Would be interested to try that one.
I agree....It be so great if YogaX was chaptered! Cathe spoils us.

Glad to hear, from more regular Yoga-ers, thought it was intense too for them! I'm new to yoga, never really gave it a chance....I'm the person who thinks if you don't sweat alot or breath heavy...I'm not working hard enough. Well, needless to say, I'm changing my old school thinking (esp. as I age).

Any of you that are doing P90X - it seems to me that in the routine, it'd be difficult to do the Ab ripperX on the following day. Talk about some tough ab work!

For Lent, I'm trying to take care of my body better and STRETCH! Just don't do it enough....or simply skip it! God gave me this body...I'm gonna take care of it! So, including stretching and yoga has been my new goal!

:)
