P90X wimp

I have just finished week 4 of P90X. I really enjoy the workouts and can keep up with the weights and cardio, but the pullups and pushups I cannot do yet. I have to use the bands only for the pullups and can only do the pushups by modifying on my knees. I can't believe those girls on the tapes can do so many! They don't look so tough and they hang right in there. I feel so weak and don't know if I'll ever be able to do a single pullup or real pushup. Anyone out there do this rotation and start as a wimp and end up doing any pullups or many pushups by the end? I'm discouraged.

Don't be discouraged! It's the end results that really matter. I still do the modified pullups b/c I still can't do a full pull up yet....but I'm getting closer. However, I have seen big results in the form of bigger muscles and fat loss from the program, so I'm alright with it. I know I'll get there. With P90X+ looming in my future, maybe I'll get there even sooner than I thought.

Also, I think you are being kind of hard on yourself after only 4 weeks. It might take you a couple of times thru the program to do them. As far as the pushups go, you'll see improvements if you stick with it. As your upper body and core strengthens, you'll be able to start pumping out those pushups in no time. I can certainly do more pushups than when I started....just give yourself some time.

Don't be discouraged. I cannot do that many pullups and pushups all at once either. Takes much much practice. Just do your best and forget the rest, right??? ;-)

Do you have a 2-story house? I have started learning to do toe push-ups by using the steps. I have my feet at the bottom and started with my hands on the 5th step up and did 3 x 8 push-ups on my toes. I have now progressed down to the 4th step at 3 x 8. WooHoo! I am going to just keep dropping down a step at a time til I'm on the floor. :7

Hi Diane,

I just finished the x lean program. Still can't do a pullup and probably never will at my age. I used a chair and just did what I could and would always be sore in the lat area, so I am sure it did some good. I just don't have the desire to do a pull up. I couldn't do a single push up on my toes but can do almost 10 now. My arms would shake in plank and now they don't. I can see some diffinition in my arms and have lost some fat around the middle. They have a million push up challenge going on at the million dollar body forum and so I still do as many as I can on my toes and then drop to my knees every day. I think it just takes time and not giving up.

April71rn,

Don't get discouraged. I started out as a wimp (not being able to do one pullup or chinup) and by the end was doing unassisted chinups and pullups (although chinups came much easier for me than pullups). Hang in there and it will come. I still remember the first time my chin made it over that bar and it was the greatest feeling. Just even trying to do them will help with the dreaded back fat. I lost a band and a cup size and I think it was due to all the pushups, pullups and chinups I did during P90X.

FYI: I wasn't able to do a full pullup/chinup until Week 10.
