P90X supplement vs. other protein powder??

I did some searches on past posts but couldn't find an answer to this so I thought I'd post this question because you are always such a helpful group!

I've had the free sample of the P90X peak recovery formula in Smooth Orange for a while now and I just tried it this morning - it was really good. It seems a bit expensive on their website so I was wondering if there is anything special about it or if any of you have any other recommendations for a protein powder I should try. Is the P90X supplement any better/different than the others as far as protein, nutrients, etc??

Thank you!!

I dont know as I will be much help as this has interested me as well. Beach Body does not give their nutrients on their website as far as I can see. I think they say around 18 gms protein on the whey protein and the protein bars. Not the fat or carbs. The recovery drink is more carbs with a smaller ratio of protein and I belive it has some creatine in it.

The recovery formula is not a "protein powder" but a balance of protein and carbs that is supposed to be beneficial for recovery. I visited their site, saw what the basic breakdown of macronutrients (protein, carbs, fats) was, and found a drink ("Power Dream") that is close, so I used that.

Thank you for the info Kathryn. I'll look for Power Dream. I usually drink a protein shake with 20 grams of protein but very little carbs. In your very educated opinion, is it better to get the extra carbs (and less protein) while doing a p90x rotation? Or should I stick to my normal protein powder?

I wouldn't go for extra carbs OR less protein, just a different balance, perhaps. Getting some of each (carbohydrate to replace glycogen and protein to start the recovery process) right after the weight workouts (I'd grab a Power Dream right after mine). Then about an hour later, a protein-based meal (I think, I don't really pay that much attention to these things, like nutrient timing and such, but have read some about it).

I'm brand new to this site and to Cathe. I'll save all of those details for an introductory post for later on. But I caught this thread and thought I'd chime in.

I do P90X, I'm on my second round...LOVE IT!! The Peak Recovery Formula is different from their Protein powder. These are two seperate things with two seperate purposes.

The Recovery drink is just that a drink to drink after you've worked out. It's a balance of carbs and proteins that your body needs post INTENSE workout. It's used to replenish your glycogen stores and your blood sugar levels as both are depleted after a strenuous workout. That's why it's high in carbs and lower in protein (4 to 1 ratio). You drink it within 60 minutes of your workout (well I drink it right after my workout) and then wait 20 minutes before eating a normal day's meal.

It's not something that replaces a meal, or acts as a meal, it's in addition to everything else you consume in a day. I only use it after a really intense workout (ie Plyo, the weight routines, and recently after KickMax ). This drink is the whole reason I get my butt off the couch and exercise some days!! It's soooo good!!

The Whey Protein powder is what you use as a meal, snack, etc.

Hope this helps...and I hope to get to know many of you in the future!!
