P90X check in

Hi ALL!!
Just wanted to say, I just finished Chest & Back & Ab. I loved the Ab workout. I now understand why some said it's difficult to do after leg workout. WOW!
The chest & Back was good. Not my best. I was a little tired today after a 12 hour workday. But, I definately know what I need to work on. I'm determined to be able to do a pull up! I had to go on my knees for alot of the push ups. Next time, I think I'll have to push myself a little harder.

Christine...how did your Plyo go today?? How does it compare to Cathe? I always worry about cardio not being at good as Cathe's.

Hope you all are doing well...keep up the good work. It's time to finish my protien shake! YUMMM.
Alicia
PS: I'm trying to get my husband to join me on these workouts...I think it would be fun. So far, no luck

;( He prefers the gymx(

Good morning all!

I'm off to do Shoulders and Arms soon, and I'm going to sub CoreMax # 3 for Ab Ripper X - just because I like variety on my ab workouts. I'll do Ab ripper on Thursday again - it is killer. :)

Alicia - Plyo X is different from anything Cathe has. It's tough and it's a workout! You're heart rate will get up there. It's just different. I took a class at the gym once that was called Sports Conditioning and we did a lot of drills - that's what Plyo X reminds me of. I enjoy it, but I enjoy training the way boys train, so-to-speak. I also like Kenpo X because it's more like a real Martial Arts class.

Carole - My DH goes to the gym, but he does not understand my obsession with videos. He's usually okay with them, but sometimes he gets impatient, especially when I'm previewing them. LOL

Hi All -

I guess we can make this today's check-in as well :)

I just finished PlyoX and am totally sweaty. I was fighting it this morning though - I was having a mental struggle with quitting - but I didn't!! :) Yeah!

Off to drink the recovery drink - I do have to say that in one workout Tony mentions just doing the workout for the recovery drink - and I have to say today that was true for me! I kept thinking about how nummy it was - esp when I blend it with a few ice cubes... Off to make it now!

I can't wait to join you guys!!!!! I just ordered P90X yesterday, and am counting the minutes until it arrives. Although, I must say, I'm also worried about missing my Cathe. But, given how long BB often takes to deliver an order, I could have a full month to pack in some Cathe fun. My sis got me the Slow & Heavy series for my b'day (end of next week), and I'm dying to give those a go. I may end up starting the P90X rotation in June...

Anyway, I love reading this check-in! It's getting me very excited to start with this.

Hi everyone,

I just ordered these yesterday myself-I have been himming and hawing (sp?) over these for months. I finally broke down and ordered them. I can't wait to try them out. I too am worried about missing Cathe, but I can throw a Cathe in every now and then right??

I remember when Cathe workouts used to intimidate me and now she is pretty much all I do-I hope I can handle these!! I sure will have fun trying..

Kathy

I enjoyed Shoulders and Arms. I like the way this workout is set up - one each - shoulder, bicep and tricep workout, then the sequence is repeated. You have 5 sets (including the bonus set). The exercises are fairly different from Cathe's except a few. The problem I have right now is figuring out which weight to use. I'm used to Cathe's more enduranced based lifting. For lying Tricep Extentions - I use 10 pounds for Cathe, but I used 15 pounds for P90X. That was a good fit - but I could do 12-15 reps. I want to go heavier, but then I struggle, and I don't feel like I'm feeling it where I should. The in and out bicep curls - I feel that I could use 20 pounds, but I think he goes too fast. I think under that circumstance, I'll just have to slow it down and pause the tv (or rewind) if I have to. Anyone else find this?

I did CoreMax # 3 instead of Ab Ripper X today. I like to mix up my ab work. Yoga X tomorrow - very excited about starting that!

Anne - I understand what you mean. Plyo X is one of those workouts that you really have to be in the mood for it, otherwise it's a struggle. And if you're sore at all in your legs... OUCH! Congrats on getting through it! Hope you enjoyed the drink!

Mspina - welcome! Glad to have you here! Feel free to ask questions - I had tons of them, which is why I started this thread. A lot of us actually toss a Cathe in every now and again. I could definitely see IMax 3 (or even 2) for Plyo X and KPC/KM or CK for Kenpo X. I did CoreMax 3 today instead of Ab Ripper. It was nice to see pretty Cathe as opposed to Tony, but I like Tony, too.

Kathy - welcome to you as well! Wow! All of these people taking the plunge! I hope you like them, too! And yeah, there are ways and days you can sub Cathe for Tony. These are hard and humbling, but if you love a challenge, it's a great series.

Good morning ladies. I love P90X so far. I still haven't done chest, tris, etc., or the core dvd. I really enjoy Tony's instructing; it doesn't even feel like you're working out. Today I ran 4.5 miles, and later plan to do legs and back.

Carole-how many cardio days are you adding? how long have you been running? I have a hard time running. My goal is to get over that, as I'm trying to lean out for Maui in June.

Oh, has anyone done yoga yet? I still haven't done that dvd. It sounds sort of hard! I thought it would be easy until I did some of the moves in cardio X

Hi there,

I don't have p90x as yet but am considering it.
Sarah aka Imafitnessfreak helped me pick Cathe videos which didn't require a lot of equipment (small condo with little space) and that is one of the reasons p90x appeals to me. Are any of you ladies doing the workouts without the pull-up/chin-up bar and using the door attachment instead?

Thanks for any input,
Sham

I am right now. I followed Kathryn's advice and bought it from Sissel. It's pretty sturdy. I use the heaviest bands and can really feel it in my lats. I'm sure there are added bene's from having a real pull up bar, but this is working fine for me. Yeah, equipment so far in minimal.

Idon't have a pull up bar yet. What is the one from sissel like? I bought the overpriced one from beachbody, but it won't work with our doors. I have never attempted to do a pull up... I can't wait to try!}( I am strong, but know they will kick my booty!Chest and back is hard enough without them...it really works a lot of arm muscles as well.

You could probably just buy the door attachment - I think it's like $3.00 (you'll pay more in shipping!). It has a thick foam part attached to a pretty thick woven strap/handle. You open your door, put the strap over the door with the foam side on the otherside, and shut the door. It's pretty strong.

Hi all,

i'm thinking about purchasing p90x along with cathe's hardcore series & wanted to know if you guys use the nutrition plan p90x provides.. and if you really think it helps you?

also, what other equipment do you need that cathes videos don't use.. i know the pull up bar, is that all?

Thanks so much.

Couple of questions - what's your fitness level and what do you hope to accomplish (get the toned look, lose some weight...) with your rotations - then we may be able to help.

Christine,

I'm fairly fit, and exercise at home with my own fitness plan (weights), taebo, & pilates. i'm 5'4 & around 110 pounds so i'm not looking to lose very much weight at all (about 5 pounds) except in my stomach i just have that dreaded pudge that takes forever to go away ;P I'm more looking to gain muscle & get the toned look with my rotations.

Krystal...as I am training for a couple of long races, I am currently running 6 days a week. I have run for about 30 years with a few breaks in there...:) ..YogaX is very intense. It was my first Yoga workout! I love Yoga because of it...Towards the end of my first rotation I did sub other Power Yoga workouts that were not 90 minutes like YogaX is. Baron Baptiste and Bryan Kest.

Welcome to all the newbies ordering P90X...you will not be sorry and P90X is a great compliment to Cathe's workouts...

Christine...Shoulders and Arms is still my fav weight workout of P90X. One thing to remember you don't want to go too heavy and screw up your form. I would just stay with the same weight, increase the reps until you feel ready to move up. Then start with the 8 reps and a heavier weight. And you can always go slower than Tony's count...:)

That's what we're here for - no apologies necessary. I've had so much help from the lovely ladies of this board, that the least I can do is return the favor.

Yes, that is what I ordered. I also ordered the pink and the purple bands to go with it. So far I have only used the purple band. The pink was a little easy. You'll have to play with form to see what works best for you.

FYI - for anyone posting to this thread - there is a new one that Anne started. It's for Wednesday - use that to post instead, please.
