P90X and STS

I would love to hear peoples opionions on P90X. I have done STS many times and luv it but was looking for something different to do to change it up. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks, Lori

Having not yet completed an STS cycle yet, I can't speak in comparison but I did complete P90X and got fantastic results. It's 3 days of weights, 2 days of cardio, 1 day of yoga and 3 ab days as written but it's easily adjusted to suit your needs. I, for instance, added some cardio and also subbed a lot to alleviate boredom. I also didn't do all of the yoga-it's 90 mins long. I don't have patience for that. I would usually keep it to the first 45 minutes. I would do extra cardio early in the day and then do the yoga at night. I did the full classic rotation. No weight loss to speak of but my body leaned out and my muscle definition really started to pop. I got stronger too!

HTH

I just started P90X last week! I LOVE it... Tony is hilarious (although some might find him annoying), and the time just flies by. I agree that I do not like the YogaX...way too long, so I plan on subbing some other yoga dvds for that one, but other than that it's been nothing but fun. I think you'd love it:D

I think Tony's a riot too but it is very true that he grates on a lot of people's nerves. I personally don't see how someone so good looking could grate on ANYONE'S nerves but that's just me! :D:p;)

Yes Tony is annoying. My son mutes the sound. It is a good workout and I too hated the yoga. Did once and never again. My personal results were that that I was more cut with STS. Cathe really hits it all with her 3 month rotation. P90X is same old dvd's. You have to think about changes to tweek his workout. Cathe does it for you. She is the best.

I haven't done STS so I can't compare the two. I started P90X last year, and got bored six weeks into it. I was getting good results, but I wasn't looking forward to working out. Also, I wanted more lower body emphasis, and all the emphasis on pull-ups tweaked my shoulder. Btw, I like Tony and I think he's funny, but after doing the same dvd's week after week, the jokes started to get on my nerves.

I started to look for other workouts to substitute for P90X, and that's how I discovered Cathe. For the past seven months, I've done mostly Cathe dvd's (no P90X), but like I said, no STS -- yet. I'm never bored, and I plan rotations so I don't use the same dvd's too often, so I'm always looking forward to my workouts.

edited to add: I also didn't appreciate how Tony and his crew were pushing the beachbody recovery drinks and other products during every workout. Annoying!

I own both P90X and STS and have experienced great results with each system. STS is much more individualized and I believe it pushed me harder than P90X. I bought P90X when it first came out and that program took me to a level of fitness and "cut" that I never thought I would reach.... then along came STS and my muscles are even more defined and my strength has improved.
Yes, Tony does get annoying with his "cutesy" remarks but I love the way he shows various levels of the exercises. I agree with the previous posters about the yoga- that was the workout I hated doing. (Yoga is not Tony's forte and I didn't like the sequences in the workout. BTW, I teach yoga, pilates and various cardio formats)
I think each program has value and I am glad to have them in my fitness library. If I had to choose 1 program, I would take STS because of it's depth and variety.

P90X is more tried and true I guess. all the before and afters and even celebrities (which I believe aren't being payed) using p90x...I think it kinda speaks for itself. I've haven't seen any other program dramatically change so many bodies.

Maybe if STS became more commercialized it would have the same success?

DH and I have both done P90X and STS. He got better results with P90X, but I think that's because he was more diligent in following the rotation exactly as written. I got better results with STS. But we both agree that STS is a much more enjoyable process to go through. As others have said, Tony is charming at first, but his jokes are no longer funny when you have them memorized and can say them with him!!! Also, the ad placement for the recovery drink and other Beach Body products got annoying.

IMO, you can't go "wrong" with either purchase. STS is just a better buy to me. I still include P90X workouts in my rotation--especially when I'm in the mood to do endless push ups and pull ups--but the thought of doing 90 days of it turns my stomach. In contrast, I'm starting my third round of STS after I get back from the Houston RT.

Happy shopping!!! :)

I'm just finishing up week 9 of P90X and I do love it; however, I MISS CATHE!! Prior to starting the X, I did a round of Insanity and prior to that I did mostly hardcore Cathe stuff. Cathe got me in the best shape of my life and then I got amazing results with Insanity when it came to muscle definition and cardio endurance, but no weight loss (not sure I really had much to lose). I AM getting a lot stronger with P90X, but since I was in such good shape to start with, my results have not been very dramatic. I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to do STS, but right now the biggest thing holding me back is....THE COST. I have had to add in HiiT training with my P90X strength days because the program in itself is too slow paced, but I'm pretty sure I would have to do that with STS too. One of the most appealing aspects of STS is that you get to do a different DVD everyday! With the X, it's essentially the same 8 or 9 workouts over and over, but like someone else said, it has been proven countless times that it works. So, due to cost, I chose to go with P90X, but am saving to purchase STS someday. Anyway, so sum up this post, that is all over the place, since you've done STS, I think you would like P90X. Yes they are very different programs, but both work on the concept of muscle confusion so in that regard, they are very similar.

Thanks for this thread. I'd been considering P90X, but I guess I'm just fine with STS and can save the mega-bucks.
