P90 or Slim Series

There's been some talk about the P90X series. I was wondering if anyone had any information about the Slim Series or the Power 90. Is it worth is to have all these series?

Does the Slim Series or the Power 90 have more leg work?

Any thought are appreciated!

I don't have Power 90, but I have P90X and SS.
P90X and SS are two very different types of workouts. SS focuses on using light or no weights and working the lower body every day (if you follow the system) in order to stay lean. The problem with this is that if you follow their rotation, you are also working the upper body every day, which I found to be overkill on the joints, even with light weights.

SS workouts are very similar: simple moves like squats, lunges, step touches, some isolated kickboxing moves (they have bad form!). No moves linked together in a choreographed sequence. There is a "music off" option so you can use your own music.

Some people say that SS workouts are boring, but sometimes they are the only things I can get myself too do. I put on my own tunes (anything from 130 to 136 bpm or so works) and follow that beat. I don't have to think about choreography.

All SS workouts contain leg work (even "Cool it Off," the recovery/stretch workout, has some knee stablization exercises), and one, "Firm it Up," is all lower body.

P90X is my best fitness purchase for 2004, and perhaps of all time. I found the upper body work to be without compare as far as results. I needed different lower body to keep my glutes where and how I like them to be! Cardio is minimal, but the goal of this program is building strength and muscle tone. I highly recommend P90X to anyone who wants to go a step beyond Cathe's workouts (but add in Gym Style Legs once in a while instead of the P90X legs). The legs are worked in "Legs and back' (the only focused leg workout in P90X), but also in the yoga workout and the plyometrics workout.

I don't have Power 90, but see no appeal in it. It's several steps below P90X, and seems more repetitive (12 or 13 workouts in P90X vs 4--I think--in Power 90).

If you want an cheaper, abbreviated taste of P90X (with Tony goofier than he is in P90X), Power Half Hour is a set of 5, half-hour workouts on one DVD. The sequencing is similar to P90X weight work (push-pull) and the abs workout contains some plyo moves like in PlyoX.

I know a lot of people here likes P90X but I didn't but I guess it depends on what you're interested in. I felt it was primarily about strength and I'm more interested in toning. The Slim Series is a very effective toning series however it's very boring. I put my P90X on ebay but kept SS. It's boring but effective and worth doing periodically.

I bought the Slim Six series and it is too basic, I sold it on E-bay, if you work out with Cathe, you may want to consider P90X if you want a challenge. IMO the Slim Series is for beginnes to Intermediate exercisers. It is cardio with Isometrics, there is no weight training there.

I have all of the Beach Body tapes. I find Slim In 6 to be okay to do for a mindless workout like Kathryn states. I also used it differently than they suggest. I LOVE the Slim & 15 minute stretch tape and use it often (even now). I REALLY like the Slim Series much better. It is a bit more difficult and a bit less repetitive than Slim in 6. I think being a Cathe exerciser you might be happier with Slim Series.

I also prefer Power Half Hour over Power 90. Power 90 is extremely, extremely boring. It is only 2 weight workouts and 2 aerobic workouts with 1 ab ripper tape and one, level 2 ab ripper tape. It got so monotonous that I could only use it once in a while. Power Half Hour is a much better choice and again is more advanced than Power 90.

I also have Yoga Booty ballet (loved the original one) and I like to do this on recovery weeks. It's fun and lighthearted and works you out differently and stretches you. I know you didn't ask for all of this info, but I'm in the mood to share!!

I also have the Fast 10 Series (as I have other tapes from Michael George that I liked - so I bought this series more for him than for the theory behind it). It does not have that much variety on it....basically, you can link all of the workouts together for a couple tough workouts versus the "fast 10 minute" ones that they suggest.

THe newest set (which I purchased right before I found Cathe ...so I haven't done them yet) is the new Kathy Smith - Project You. This consists of 2 aerobic sessions, 1 upper body workout, 1 lower body workout, 1 total body workout and a 20 minute Pilates session, as well as a 20 minute Yoga session. I think you might enjoy this one also.

Slim in 6 is definitely beginner/intermediate. Slim Series is a different set, and is more advanced.
