Overtraining biceps

Last Tuesday when I did Gym Style biceps I was able to do the complete first set of concentration curls with 20 lbers. Biceps was worked again with a lesser set of exercises on Friday during HSC but I went heavy. Yesterday was Gym Style biceps again and I could do less than half of the reps of concentration curls with 20 lbs and then had to drop to 15 lbs. Anyone else experience this? I usually work each body part 2/week...this time I was over for biceps ...3x/6 days. Could I have not rested my biceps enough. Is there any other reason for this to happen?

I don't have an answer but just want to say you ROCK!! 20 # bicep curls WOW!! I am just now doing 15 # with some exercises and 12 with others.

I dunno.... I can't do all those on the toe push-ups that you and Cheryl can do. That rocks. I'm going to give myself a few days off from upper body work and see if my bicep strength comes back. I don't know what else it could be.

Cathy, I think you needed at least another day of rest between your 2nd and 3rd workout - especially since you went heavy with HSC.

I know for me, if I'm doing heavy, I need 72 hours between workouts.

I think your biceps were taking control and sending you a message! :) :) They wanted more rest! :)

I agree w/Jo. I think a minimum of 48 hours rest betw. workouts is really important to strength training.

This happens to me on any body part I'm strength training. I notice that if I take a week off from working a body part, I am able to do so much more. For example, a while back, I took a week off from leg work to rest my ankles and knees, which had been aching a little. After a week, I did PLB and just pounded the exercises down. I usually have to stop and rest at least once during this workout, but that day I just kept on going like the Energizer Bunny. When the workout was over, I could have kept going...and I'm usually ready for it to be over by the time that it ends.

So, yes, give each body part about 48 hours of rest (and maybe even take a week off once in a while like I did) so that you don't risk injuring a muscle.
