One place I did find where the salespeople seemed to really understand that different sports and certain conditions need specific shoes was the New Balance store. The thing is, they're WAY more expensive than other places you can buy their shoes. I don't know if the other big names like Nike and Addidas and others have specific stores like New Balance does. You might also want to call some physical therapy facilities and ask if they have any recommendations. You might get lucky and find one that will give you that information over the phone. I hope you find something that works for you!

I have found Fleet Feet to be really good at helping you buy a pair of shoes too. Of course, they only have running shoes, but that's usually what I buy for running and also Cathe cardio.

Mogambo is right. Visit a speciality store like a running shop and they will shoe you up and even watch you walk or run to get an idea of what type foot you have. You are not obligated to buy from them either. I have high arches and I pronate, severely on the left and moderately on the right. The rule of thumb is that high-arced feet supinate, flat feet pronate but that's not true of me. It is unlikey that you would have one foot supinating the other pronating but you need an expert and that can be tricky. Some salespeople are clueless. For running shoes, I have found that stability shoes are best for me. I wear orthotics. I believe there is a perfect shoe for each activity. :) However, once you have found it, they will discontinute it! LOL! And the search for the perfect shoe will begin again! I was a New Balance wearer but recently have gotten into Reeboks superb Premier line of running shoes and the Vector aerobics shoes. Good luck!
