Overhead presses (gym style workout)

On the overhead presses you do two variations: palms facing forward and palms facing the ears. Is there a different emphasis between the two or do they generally work the same areas? Sometimes it seems like the palms facing the ears is a lot easier - is that because there are more of the triceps involved? Is one version more defining or shaping of the shoulder than the other? Does one hit all 3 sides better than the other?

Hi Gibbee! These presses generally work the same area and target the same muscle groups. I like to do both versions to recruit the muscles just a little differently and provide a slightly different challenge to the muscle.

The palms facing the ears is a little easier and you will probably be able to push up a little more weight in this position because it is more of a natural and functional movement and also your hands are closer to the center of your body making it easier to send the weight up.

I prefer to do both methods but you can't go wrong doing either one.
