overdeveloped abs

Hi Cathe! I hope that you can give me some advice to down size my abs!I always change up my routines every 8 weeks to keep the variety going!I'm 33 5ft 6 and weigh 120lbs I always maintained this weight since tenth grade!I'm a home exerciser who works out 6 days a week! My problem is the new rotation that I have for my ab work consists of pilates 2x a wk with planks-standing ab work 1 x-floor abs 1x and a day using weights for side bends! I only work them for 6 mins a day! I still have 2 weeks left on this rotation and I'm disappointed of the bulk that I added to my waist!Thicker! I'm not weight consious at all but I feel like I have muscular love handles from the weighted side bends! If that's possible! Is there something that I can do to trim what I built up and not bulk? What should I avoid? Thanks for any input that you can give me in helping me to transform my abs back to a more girly shape!

Hi Francine! Adding resisitance to any muscle will make it grow to some extent. Weighted side bends will contribute to a thicker waistline. If you are not happy with your current abs, then you need to change your routine to include less added resistance. You may also want to consider cutting back on how often you train them. For now take a week off of training your abs and let the muscle atrophy a bit. Then come back in with three non-consecutive ab workouts per week with no added resisitance (other than your plank work using your own body's resistance) and see where that takes you. Good Luck!
