Oven died and so did my muffins : (

I was tweaking a recipe for strawberry muffins, adding in oatmeal, whole wheat flour, and banana, and went to put them in the oven... well, my oven has decided to die. The temp would not get above 288, and then fell to below 200. I must have restarted the thing dozens of times, but to no avail. This isn't the first time it's happened either. I ended up throwing my half-baked muffins in the garbage. So. Do you love or hate your range??? Any recommendations? Thanks.

It was my daughters 9th birthday party and I had about 10 kids who slept over the night. In the morning, I decided to make oatmeal muffins and chocolate chip muffins and guess what? Yep, my oven died and I had half baked muffins too. I quickly went to a neighbours house and finished them there. They turned out okay. I ended up getting a new oven.

Bummer about the muffins. They sounded yummy. My JennAir (26 years old)has done this a couple of time. It may be something as simple (and cheap) as replacing a burnt out heating element. Once it was the thermostat. Again, easier and much cheaper than buying a new oven.

I'll give you the recipe... but I didn't get a chance to test it out! I basically tweaked one I found online. Here it is. If you make them, let me know how they turned out!

1/8 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup lofat milk
1 egg or 1/4 cup egg substitute
1/2 cup white flour
1/2 cup oats
3/4 cup whole wheat
1 banana
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 cup white sugar
1/4 brown sugar
1 1/2 cups chopped strawberries

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Mix together all the wet ingredients in one bowl, dry in another, and add the strawberries into the dry, before combining the two. Bake for approx 25 mins.

Bummer on your range and the muffins.

If your looking for a new one, I'd check out the appliance forum at GradenWeb. Here's a link to it: http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/appl/

I'm still working on an ancient Kenmore electric that bakes well, but the stove top features are seriously, seriously lacking. My new range (once my new kitchen is finished) will probably be a dual-fuel Five Star, with convection ovens!Yippee! :)

Hi delfin,

I saw this thread right after you posted and felt really bad for you. But.... I couldn't reply to you because I kept hearing, my "oven died and so did my muffins (sung to a country tune)" and I couldn't keep a straight face. I didn't want to offend you while you were frettin' about your muffins. Anyways, I hope everything works out for you.

jordan (who can't get that tune out of my head :D )
