To bring y'all up to date: Remember Darla Atlas from the road-trip who was doing an article for the Dallas Newspaper about the Cathe weekend, well she also free-lances for People Magazine.

So a couple of weeks ago she) wrote to me and wanted the Texas girls (in her reporting district) to tell her what we thought of the New Dove ads.(You know the ones that feature regular healthy women, not stick thin models)

We all sent her our opinions.

Well, Pinky's made it into the artical in People Magazine!!!!!!!

It's the August 15th issue with Jennifer Aniston and "Jen Breaks Her Silence" on the cover. Up in the right corner is a picture that says "Dove Girl Debate" 2nd to the last page.

Woo Hoo! Go Pinky! Go Pinky! (silly dance)

That's awesome Pinky! My mother in law subscribes to People so I will have to check it out!

Way to Go!

Really, really cool Pinky. I am so happy for you! Hey, who wouldn't quote a smart woman like yourself? I will have to check it out. These Dove ads are quite the topic of the day, aren't they? I have seen discussions about them everywhere.

Lori

Cool! I browsed through that People when it came to the office on Monday. Now I can't wait to read the article tomorrow.

Thanks for the info...and way to go Pinky!

Ladies, thank you. Y'all are making me smile, I needed that.:)

Nadine, you make it sound like I won the lotto or something.:D Darla did e-mail me about it last week, the exact quote that was used, and with Andrew's birthday coming up, I forgot about it. Actually, very little made it in the magazine. So don't waste your breath looking for it, this is the whole paragraph, of which only about three sentences were used:
-----------------------------------------------
The most beautiful woman I’ve ever had the pleasure to know was my maternal grandmother. She was, after having had 10 kids, chubby and squat. She was very beautiful in her heyday, but looking at her wrinkled and troubled face, you'd never know that. What you'd know, just by shaking her hand, is that she’d had a very tough life. Her palms bloomed with callouses that were once blisters, her fingernails were never colored and always clipped short because they were never dainty. She was obstinate, quiet, resilient. She may have been less than five feet tall, but she used to separate my brothers when they fought and calmly carried these squirming and clawing boys to her house the way a man would carry a keg of beer under each arm. She lived in an era when women had no other role but to give birth to and take care of children. I would want to be shot had I been in her place. But she gave everything she had in herself to her family and made the best out of what life handed her. She had faith. That’s something I don’t have. I have her picture in my study as a reminder of what she didn’t even realize she taught me: strength of spirit and of will. That’s something cosmetic surgery or airbrushing can’t ever give anybody. I don't think the Dove ads could give that either, but it's a start.
-----------------------------------------------

That's it. The last time I saw my name on a national magazine was when I wrote tutorials for PageMaker for PC Novice in the mid-90s. Does that magazine even still exist? One of their associate editors at the time was an old classmate in J-school. That was a past life. Things have changed tremendously since then.:)

Pinky...that is one of the most beautifully written passages I have ever had the pleasure to read. You have a very special gift.

Pinky -

What a wonderful paragraph! Your grandmother sounds very much like my own. I, too, keep her picture on my bedroom dresser to remind me of her strength and will.

I bought the issue. It also mentioned that Pinky was having an affair with Brad Pitt (and Angelina is fuming!).:p

Pinky congrats, even a few lines is better then nothing and that paragraph is awesome, I think they really should have used the whole thing.

Wow Pinky!! http://bestsmileys.com/signs16/19.gif[/img]..a beautiful paragraph you wrote. I agree they should have used it ALL....I get People at work so I'll look for it...especially the rumors about Brad Pitt...http://www.planetsmilies.com/smilies/winking/winking0020.gif[/img].....Carole

I told you when I met you at the RT that I loved your writing and you obviously have such a gift for it. Congratulations on getting your quote printed. And please tell Brad I said HI!!! ;)

Angie

LOL:7 :7 :7 Soosan, don't I wish that were true.:p Although Brad Pitt is a little too pretty for me. If it were Keanu Reeves or Jerry O'Connell... HELLO!!! NOW we're talkin'.:p

Thank you ladies, you are all so sweet. I didn't expect that whole paragraph to be quoted, if at all. Space is always a constraint in print media, unless it's a slow news day (or week), and they fill in the holes with longer quotes, more blurbs or pull-outs, or "smaller" stories.
