Hi Nina. Welcome to Cathe. I'm not Cathe, obviously, but I would like to reply to your post.
I have not done any FIRM tapes, but from what I have seen advertised, Cathe's tapes are more intense....all of you FIRM believers out there, please don't yell at me.
Cathe has alot of "rotation" series. I read alot on these forums about women using them and having great success. Did you read anything in Cathe's Success Stories forum? You might get some insight there as well.
I have been an excersier for years, but just starting doing Cathe to cross train in the last 6 months. I'm not sure what fitness level you are at to be able to recommend one of her tapes and I am not as fimilar with Cathe as some of these other women are. If you post your plight on the Open Discussion forum, you will get some great answers there as well.
Diet is also important in losing those extra pounds. I have noticed that the older I get....I will soon be 34....the more I have to focus on my diet. I used to be able to eat whatever I wanted as long as I exercised. Now, I swear, I have a bowl of ice cream before bed and I wake up bloated.......UGH!!!!!
I don't have 25 lbs. to lose, but I have gainned about 8 lbs. in the last few months. I am very frustrated as well. I can't figure it out. I just read a post last night that talked about this. A Catheier had posted that she has started gainning weight after losing even though she is working out like crazy. Someone wrote back and explained it like this (this is not her exact quote, but close):
If you are doing too much cardio, you can become glycogen depleted which in turn compromises your lean muscle mass. Loss of lean muscle mass results in slower metabolism, in turn increasing your fat storage.
She recommended focusing more on weights and tonning than on cardio, of course not eliminating cardio altogether.
I have to agree with her on this one. It seems the more cardio I do, the more weight I gain, and it isn't muscle. My clothes also fit tighter. I have just started cutting my cardio down to 30-40 minutes four times a week and doing some of Cathe's weight tapes and some stability ball tapes. When I seem to start adding weight because I have been doing extra cardio (I have done this in the past), as soon as I drop my cardio back, I drop my extra pounds. I have to learn that my body does better with lighter cardio. In my mind the more cardio I do, the thiner I will become, which makes sense, but I just gain weight from it. Again......UGH!!!!!!
How much protein are you eating? I don't calculate like some of these faithful food watchers do (maybe I should, though), but I do try to have more protein than carbs. It seems to help as well.
I hope I have helped you. You may want to post on the Open Discussion forum as well (I think I have already said this, sorry).
Good luck,
Kim
