OUCH! My foot!

Um I need both feet to function!

I wasn't doing anything, I swear!

Here's the story..... of a lovely lady, with a jacked up foot....dadada.....

I got home from work last night, about 9, took of the shoes I had been wearing all day. Heels, but I wear heels all the time, and these shoes frequently, no problems. Put my jammies on, and go in search of dinner. I was standing at the counter, talking to DH, and I turned the upper part of my body around to look at him while I was talking to him. And then the PAIN!!! Have mercy, the PAIN!!!!! I didn't do anything, but it felt like my right foot had been shot, burning, cramping, sharp pain. And then some nasty curse words. WTF??? I was standing there!!!

Its in the inside arch up to the top inside of my foot. I didn't sleep well last night b/c I couldn't get comfortable. I sleep on my stomach, so I couldn't find a good place to put my foot. And I was tired, so then I was pissed I couldn't sleep. And we all know how that goes round and round.

It still hurts this morning, if I'm not doing anything and just sitting, it feels like a crampy headache in my foot. When I walk, or move it there is a very sharp pain. Moving it up and to the inside it the worst, enough to bring tears to my eyes. All the pain is on the inside, where the top of the arch, meets the top of the foot. It's a little swollen this morning, but not bruised or discolored or anything. It doesn't really hurt to touch, unless I put hard upward pressure on the arch, and that almost feels like good pain, kind of like counter pressure.

I have had PF issues in this foot before, but that has been good for a long while now, and this is not the same. I can't go to the Dr today, b/c if I miss work today or Tues, I don't get paid for the holiday Mon or my day off. I can't afford to take 2 non paid days. I don't think it warrants a trip to the ER after work. I may check my insurance and see what urgent cares around here I can go to, if it doesn't let up by later. I thought walking around might loosen it up, but no deal so far.

I can see it now

Doctor: How'd you hurt your foot?
Me: Standing there, talking to my husband.
Doctor: What, did you kick him?
Me: No, but maybe I should have, then I'd have a reason for my foot to hurt.:p:eek:

At least its Friday, I can wear sneakers to work, but I don't know how putting on a shoe is going to feel. I'm also not sure how driving is going to work, since its my right foot and it hurts to move it like that. I may take some ice with me, and take my shoe off under my desk, prop it up and ice it.

We were supposed to go to the zoo this weekend, but unless this lets up, I don't think I can walk that far.

Any idea what I did and what I injured? I think maybe I just moved funny and somehow pulled a muscle?

Sorry you are going through this. Are there any minute clinics or Care Now, PrimaCare type offices around you that might be open on Saturday since you said you can't go on Friday? Hope it is nothing serious and that is starts to feel better.

Hmm, weird foot problem there Nan. I know my PF hurts up in my arch and sometimes will do so when i'm barefoot with nothing supporting my arch. Sometimes all I will do is take a normal step forward and that will overstretch that tendon under my arch. Another thought would be something with the tendons/ligaments in the top of the foot. I snapped (like a rubber band snap) three of the tendons in the top of my foot once. But that had a definite cause, I slipped on the stairs and i landed on my foot. That's one where you can hear them snap, luckily it was the tendons and they heal on their own.

Sometimes after I wear heals my arches will hurt really bad the next day and make it difficult to walk. But I don't wear heals that often. Maybe you walked longer in your heals than you normally do?

Not sure what happened, but you certainly have a puzzler

ETA: Popped into my head. What about a stress fracture? Aren't those something that can build up and then go with little prompting? K, now I'm just throwing out ideas. heh

I did something weird to my foot a couple of months ago. Ibuprofen and ice are what helped it. Mine was on the top of my foot, above the arch. It hurt from the bottom up, which was strange, whenever I would put pressure on it. Doing plyo was impossible, no jumping or blasts. The only time it didn't hurt was when I put heels on. That was odd, but as soon as I took them off and stood flatfooted - yikes!

I started icing 2-3 times a day and taking 800 mg of Ibuprofen. After about a week, it was better and completely gone in about 10 days.

I hope you get some relief, but if you have swelling, you should definitely ice it and try some Ibuprofen as long as you're not allergic or anything.

It seems to be better today. I took some Aleve yesterday and did upper body last night. Iced last night as well. It still has a little lingering "offness" to it depending on how I move, but it feels pretty good. I'm scheduled for Step Moves today, and then the cardio only from Circuit Blast. Going to see how SM goes, its fairly low impact, not sure about CB, that's alot of jumping. Maybe it was just a foot charlie horse? That's the closest thing I can think of. But, man oh man, did that hurt!!! DH said I kept him up all night that night b/c every time I moved I'd whimper or moan. Sorry, honey!! It kept me up all night, too.

Oddness abounds!

I'm glad it's getting better! Signs of just an acute problem, thank goodness! Go with how it feels, that's what I did. If it hurt, I didn't do it and kept things low impact.

Good luck!

Oh no Nan!! I also have bad PF, . . .I USED to wear heels all the time and I mean all the time. I sometimes wonder if that is what caused my PF. I stopped wearing heels and the sharp pain has never come back but I still have the occasional PF flare ups. Sorry you are going through this. It stinks. I know, . . funny how we don't realize how much we use both feet till one goes nutty on us. Sending you hugs.

I had a weird foot problem this year too. Not sure if it is the same. I was completely fine and then one day, while running, I felt a sharp, stinging pain. Mine hurt near the bottom of the third toe, and the pain was primarily coming from the bottom side of my foot. I went to my podiatrist for x-rays and evaluation, and he diagnosed it as a neuroma, which is an inflamed, pinched nerve. Apparently, it can be caused by wearing heals because the narrow toe box squishes your toes together and that pinches the nerve. I had to get a cortizone shot in the nerve (ouch!) and it took quite awhile to heal. I couldn't run for about 4 months and for the first month I couldn't even walk normal.

If this sounds like what your are having, it is probably best to go to the doctor and get cortizone.
