Ouch--dermatologist gave me sunburn and I can't sleep!

OK, I basically covered everything in the subject line. I'm having light therapy for my psoriasis (which is for me just some harmless slightly itchy spots on my legs and arms) and today I got a nasty burn after the therapy. I was only in there 40 seconds! It really burns and I can't go to bed. When I lie down there it just stings and I think about it and it stings some more. Right now this cure is worse than the disease. x(

I know this is a minor problem and I'll probably feel better in a day or two (except that I'm supposed to go back for 60 seconds of treatment on Friday), but it's pretty awful at the moment.

I just want to sleep without hurting. Any tips on soothing it? I've already tried some of that After Sun aloe vera stuff and it didn't help much yet.

Try honey and olive oil. It should sooth it right down.

Get some rest,

Janie

The idea is to die young as late as possible.

Hey Lainie,

No tips here, but just wanted to send you {{{HUGS}}}! How awful -- but just think of how good you'll feel when the psoriasis clears up!:)

I checked a website (skincancer.org??) and they recommended applying a washcloth soaked in non-fat milk to the inflamed skin. Never tried it myself but hope it helps. Also, it's good to get psoriasis treated early so I'm glad you're seeing a dermatologist about it. My DB suffered for years with severe psoriasis on his arms and it was awful!

Chocolate IS the answer, regardless of the question.

Awww poor Lanie. I have psoriasis too--have had it since I was 14. This is why I tan instead of using the derm's light therapy--it's just way too easy to burn in those things.

My derm put me on Enbrel about 1.5 years ago & it's been a godsend. It's unbelievably expensive & probably not an option if you don't have good insurance, but it has me about 99% psoriasis free for the first time in 25+ years.

If the Enbrel isn't an option for you, ask your derm about steroid shots and/or laser therapy. Before my skin seriously flared that's the therapy I got & it was pretty effective. The only problem was I had to go in once a month for them, but it was worth it.

In the meantime, did you use 100% aloe vera or a mixture? Real aloe is very soothing, so if you don't have it pick it up at your local drugstore, it should help.

Thanks everyone for the advice, which has been helpful. I am feeling a bit better today but I'm thinking I will not be so quick to hop in that machine on Friday when I'm supposed to go back.

I was exhausted today since I actually ended up taking a nighttime cold medicine last night to help me sleep. I don't have any actually sleeping meds so that's what I tried. Kind of silly. I did eventually sleep o.k. but was worn out all day.

Actually, I think I might go to bed very early tonight as I can hardly even finish writing this! Thanks again for your help, everyone!
