Opinions...would the "basics" DVD's be too easy?

Cathlete
I have been using the firm, but looking for a bit of a change. I have seen some of Cathe's workouts on FitTV, and they look SO FUN! I'm trying to decide whether the Basics DVD's would be too basic. I know some of the footwork and things is really challenging in her workouts, but I'm not sure if I need the basics, or if I should just jump into one of the series like Body Blast.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Amy

RE: Opinions...would the

Hi Amy,
I would say it kind of depends on what you're looking for...the basics are, indeed, basic. I find a place for them in my rotations, but usually when I'm really pressed for time or not feeling well.
If you've been doing the Firms, you may find them too easy. (Although you may want to get them later!) Again, it depends on how long you've been working out with the Firm & how advanced you consider yourself to be.
Although, I started in on Cathe's workouts WAY before I thought I was advanced, I just did what I could.
Not much help...sorry. Whatever you decide, you're going to love Cathe. Enjoy!

Hi Amy,

Well, I think it depends on how familiar you are with step and how advanced an exerciser you are. I did the Firm for a few months and found it just wasn't for me. Not that the workouts aren't good and I didn't get any results, but like you I started looking for a change as I felt I outgrew them. Cathe is wonderful as you now know! I love her variety of choreography and I never get bored. So, I would ask you how much step training have you done? Are you familiar with all the basic steps? The nice things about the Basic Step DVD is that is gets you familiar with Cathe's style of step, her cueing, and the moves she uses. It is an easy workout, only 30 minutes, but a good one in my opinion to introduce you to her if you are not familiar. Then again, if you've been doing her workouts on FitTV, maybe you already have a handle on that. Body Fusion, which comes on the same DVD is a bit longer and includes intervals of weight training which can be nice if you're pressed for time and can't get both in on the same day. I still use these quite a bit because I still can't make it all the way through some of Cathe's workouts! She sure knows how to work you! Anyway, I think the Basic Step DVD is a good place to start depending on your needs. And only you really know what those needs are for sure. Even once you've mastered it and moved on, it is still a great DVD to use, as Ruth said, on days you don't have alot of time or need a bit of an easier workout.
Sorry this is so long. I hope it helps!

Amy,

A good thing to consider is how readily you pick up the moves in other videos. Cathe's moves are more complex, of course, but if you tend to be quick (which is helped by having seen her on FitTV and having step experience), and you're ready for a challenge, I'd go for it! I hadn't done step in awhile and started right in, and if you can be patient with yourself while you figure it out, I don't think you'll regret it! But watching one time through and playing around with the moves is definitely a good idea!
