Opinions on Valor BD-3 Squat Stands?

LeanneM

Cathlete
Hey everyone,

So I'm thinking about getting the Valor squat stands, and was wondering if any of you have them. If so, what do you think of them?

I just ordered a new Troy Lite barbell in preparation for STS, so would the stands work well with it?

Also, if you have the stands, who seems to have the best price? They're on backorder until June at ironcompany.com, but the website isn't showing how much they cost. It would be fine to wait until June since I need to budget a bit for them anyways.

Thanks in advance for any help and insights!

:)

Hi Leanne, I am not familiar with them at all but here is a couple links so you can see some prices..also, the second link compares prices. I just put "Valor BD-3 Squat Stands" in my "keyword" and it came up with lots of links for you to check out. Here are a few....

Thanks so much, Debbie! I've been comparing prices on-line, but the price at Valor Fitness itself seems to be high, so I was wondering if they were less expensive at Iron Company since I.C. isn't showing the price.

I think I need to be enabled: is a squat rack/stand worth it?!:)

Oh YES, sooo worth it! :7 Have you considered the Walmart one? It is big so that might be an issue with you. I just got it and LOVE it! If it's too big, you NEED the Valor!!! Ha!

Just keep in mind that the Valor price includes shipping (which can be near $30 if not more for something of this weight. That might actually make Valor a better deal).

Thanks, Debbie and Kathryn! I looked at the Wal-Mart one over the weekend, but it's for a longer barbell, and I *just* ordered the Troy Lite (it's not even here yet and will arrive tomorrow), which is only 5-feet long!

I found another website where the price seems better than Valor's price, even with shipping tacked on.

I guess I'm just wondering if I really do need it . . . . I still want to get the new pull-up device that Cathe and SNM are developing, and am not sure how much that will be. When I first ordered STS, I figured that I wouldn't worry about getting the squat rack and that I didn't need it, but now I really want to push myself!

Well Leanne, if you really want to be ENABLED....I use my Walmart squat rack with my Troy Lite and it works just fine! The "fit" isn't perfect but I have no problem with using my TL! Sooo, have I convinced you yet??? It is such a nice, quality set IMO. DH wasn't so sure when I first wanted it and although he still hasn't admitted it, I think he now agrees it was a great piece especially for $135.00 + tax...Good Luck whatever you decide! (I LOVE my Troy Lite! You will tooo!)

Hi Leanne,

I have the Valor Squat Stand and I think it is probably the best value out there. As Kathryn said, the price includes shipping which makes it very good deal. I had shipping quotes in excess of $100 for other racks.

It is a pretty sturdy product. I am currently squating just over 100lbs with it. I am using a standard barbell and it works fine. An Olympic size bar would allow for greater space between the racks. They tuck away quite nicely in the corner.

I ordered mine directly from Valor.

If you have any other questions, just let me know.

Have a great day,
Debbie Russo

Oh, thanks, Debbie! When I was reading the reviews of the WalMart one, it sounded like it wouldn't work with a 5-foot barbell. It's the Gold's Gym one, right? :)

Beth -- I don't think my DH and I are crafty enough to try to make one on our own!

Debbie -- Thanks for the great feedback on the Valor one. If it sounds like the WalMart one won't work, then I'll definitely go for this one!

Leanne!

Sorry if this is repetitious as I have posted this same post now in two other places asking about the Troy Lite. (I just wanted to be sure YOU saw it!) I have def changed my mind on the Troy working just fine...read on....

Hey you all...I have changed my mind on the Troy working well with the Gold's Gym set-up now that I have used it several times. Reason being...it works fine sitting on the rack ONCE it is loaded, BUT trying to change the weights when they are on the INSIDE of the holder is tricky! I was having to lift one side up at a time to load them and was kind of nervous about it falling off. Plus, like Liann said, you can't load a LOT of weight on the inside. Here is a pic of what it looks like with plates on the INSIDE...

Does that make sense?
I am definitely going to have to pick up a longer bar. Darn! Sooo, Leanne, you NEED the TROY AND a LONGER BAR! :7

RE: Leanne!

Hey Debbie -- Wow! Thanks so much for double-posting this so I'd see it! I actually just responded to your other post -- and thank you so much for checking on this! It would have been terrible to have gotten the Walmart one, only to find out that it wouldn't work with my new Troy Lite!

I think that I will go ahead and get the Valor stands, even though I may need to wait a few weeks before getting it.

Thank you *so* much!!:)

RE: Leanne!

You're VERY Welcome! Enjoy your Valor stands AND your new Troy. Isn't it fun getting new toys? (I, too, have to space out my buying! :7)

Leanne, Q re: Valor squat stands

Hey Leanne!

I've been following this thread with great interest because I don't have room for Debbie's Walmart rack & bench, and I'd been thinking I was going to be limited to a weighted vest. You mentioned that you found another site where the Valor stands were less expensive, even with shipping, than at Valor's home page. Would you mind sharing that link?

Thanks so much!

Hi Kathy,

Of course! Sorry -- I thought I had already posted the link! Here you go:

http://www.pfcfitnessequipment.com/view_item.aspx?pid=1889

They are on sale for $120, and, after you add them to your cart, you can type in your zip code to get a shipping estimate. To ship them to my zip code, the total cost is just under $153.

Oh, boy! I think that I'm going to just go ahead and order them right now! I don't know how long they'll be on sale for, and it seems like one of the only places I can find them! On the Valor website, they're selling for $189 (which includes S&H).

So I'm actually SAVING money if I order them right now, right?! ;-) Like Debbie said, it's so much fun buying new things! Hooray for new fitness toys!

I know -- it's so hard not to be enabled on this forum!;-) I've already been talking with my DH about getting these, so I figured I'd go ahead and take the plunge.

Let me know what you decide! :)

RE: Leanne, Q re: Valor squat stands

Some bad news! I placed my order with Professional Fitness Concepts, and a Customer Service rep just called to let me know that they are on backorder with the company until June. She's actually going to call Valor to get a better time frame, and she said she'd call me back when she learns more (what great customer service!).

I'm hoping to lock in the $120 price, and will ask her about that when she calls back.

I'll keep you all posted on what she says when I hear back from her.
