Open letter to lady in the grocery store

Last summer, DH and I were at the grocery store and noticed that there was a very irate, belligerant, and loud woman in the next checkout aisle arguing with the checkout girl about a bottle of soda that was on sale elsewhere and wanting the sale price. Of course, the woman did NOT have the sale flier and when it got right down to it, she said that the soda was on sale at Tom Thumb!!! A freakin' gas station!!! The manager offered to call the store and find out what the exact sale price was, (which was above and beyond what I felt was necessary!) when the woman starting changing her story about *which* Tom Thumb she "saw" the sale price at. The called the first store and found out that no, it wasn't on sale, then she said that it was a different store.....uh, they are all within a few miles of each other and if there's a sale at one, they have the sale at ALL of them?!?!?!

All I can say was that I was super happy that I wasn't that check out girl!!!

Deb,

I think you should ask the grocery store if you couple post copies of this on their entrance and exit doors.:7

I heard this story from a guy my company was employing as a consultant. He was in a grocery store in a part of town that he doesn't usually go to because there's one closer to his house. He had a six pack of beer and some chips, and as he was headed for the checkout line, a cashier was free and was waving him over to her line. Just then, a woman with a cart packed full of groceries cut in front of him, and belligerently said "I'm in a hurry." He kind of thought to himself, "well, at least I'm not you," and waited for the cashier to check all this woman's stuff out. She left, and the cashier bagged this guy's beer and chips. He got out his wallet, and she said, "oh, that's OK, sir, I put them on her tab." The point of his story was how important customer service is, and that because of this one cashier he now regularly shops at the store where she works even though it's less convenient. But being the evil person I am, I thought the point of the story was really how satisfying payback is. :)
