Good Morning

Today is a rest day. Party went well last night, going to Target today to spend our birthday money!:p

Have a great Sunday!!

Hi Girls!

Today will be a rest day for me. Not feeling 100%.:( This is the 2nd darn cold I have had this fall. I know teachers typically pick up a lot of germs their first year of teaching, but this is my 17th year! Maybe this new school has different kinds of germs!;):(

This week I hope to do: HSTA, BC (original), ME and run with some stretching thrown in there too.

Deanie~Glad the party went well yesterday!

Hi Marcy!

Have a great day!

Hi Ladies!

Today is a rest day for me as well (and also Clean Max). Finished putting up my Christmas tree and did a little more decorating.

Went to a dance last night. Learned Country 2 Step.

Plan on doing my new rotation: KBs and interval cardio 3x a week, yoga 2x a week and dancing 2x a week.

Deanie - Did you cancel STS yet? Glad you had a great party. What gifts did your DS pick out?

Gin - Hope you get rid of your cold quickly.

Have a great day!

Marcy

Hi again

Made out really well in Target- DS8 bought his brother 2 things with his birthday money and a lot of stuff for himself also.

Since I am still sore  from Fridays kb workout, I am going to continue my PUB/PLB rotation with kb again on Friday.

Gin~ I hope you feel better:(

Marcy~ I didn't cancel because I don't know how. I did email customer service to ask how. Your country 2 step sounds fun!

Hi Girls!

I woke up this morning feeling as if I had been run over by a truck. BLAH! Took some med and plan to go to work. Hope I'm not making a mistake.
You know I am really feeling bad when I don't workout 2 days in a row!!

Deanie~What a sweet and thoughtful child you have to use his bd $ to buy something for his brother. I am so impressed!!

Marcy~You'll be ready to come to TX now that you can do the 2 step!;) Did you enjoy it?

Have a great day!

Manic Monday

Good Morning

Today was PUB, and I was able to up my weights on all the exercises but biceps (20# max is good for me;)- and that was a struggle)

Gin~ I hope you are feeling better today. Did you do a circuit or ME?

Marcy~ Did you KB today? I was thinking about your rotation, and I think once you get your dvd, you should break up the kb and intensity training into different days. Doing kb is like doing a circuit, I don't know if you want to add on more cardio after that. It also is about 50 min with the warm up, so you would be doing a 70 min-ish workout that day. Maybe do something like this:
kb
intensity
kb
yoga
kb
intensity
off

I think I will be doing something similar next month (or next week- haven't decided yet) but I am going to do kb 2X and Muscle Max one day. On the AOS website, there is a minute of strength article about using Newport one day and providence the next you may want to look at. I'll see if I can find it.

Kettle bells really lean you out, but don't really give great muscle definition, from what I've read. (I could be wrong)...

Have a great day!!!

Good Afternoon Ladies!

I actually tried to post this a.m. and then deleted it by accident:mad:

I did MM warmup, Go Fit Tutorial, KM blasts and then Tamilee Webb's floor portion of Total Stretch for Beginners.

I used a 13# dbbl for the Turkish get-ups. I'm getting better with the form and was able to do all the reps. I used my KB for the rest of the exercises and also did 1-legged deadlifts.

I did 8 out of the 10 blasts and got through them okay.

Deanie - What a kind brother your DS is!:) That was so nice of him to buy his brother gifts. Thanks for the suggestion about my rotation. I'll have to think about it. I only work out for five days so it might be a little difficult. How long do you do your intensity workouts for? Are the KB DVDs you have all circuit based (like with active cardio rests)? Someone on VF was saying it was actually okay to do KBs every day since it was more endurance based and you never really go to failure like when you split up body parts.

I read that KBs give you a great butt (not that I have a problem in that area but it's good to know) -- I guess maybe because of all the squats and lunges. Also that you get more of a lean look like a dancer or someone who does pilates rather than the look of a gymnast (which is fine with me -- I'd like a leaner look). It's hard for me to build muscle so I don't think I'll ever achieve great muscle definition anyway. (Although the girl who complimented me at work did notice my biceps even through my top).

I'm off to read the articles. I'm really bummed - I didn't see till today that they were selling Empire State for only $39.99 but it was only a 1 day sale in their 12 days of Christmas sale. Maybe they'll offer it again during the next 9 days.

Re STS - I have my order form with me. There's a phone #: 800-433-7837 or the e-mail address is [email protected]. I really thought they would have put up a clip this weekend:(

Gin - Sorry you're not feeling well. I hope the DVD works for you and that all your medical issues disappear in 2009! Two-Step was lots of fun. It has lots of turns which I love. I don't think I'll be coming to TX soon but there's plenty of two-steppin' in GA!

Have a great day!

Good Afternoon

First, here is the article about using Providence and Newport with different goals in mind (endurance, strength, kb only or combining with weights)

http://www.artofstrength.com/MinuteofStrengthENews/MinuteofStrength4/tabid/220/Default.aspx

after re-reading this article, I may change my rotation ideas for next month and do kb's 3X a week. But I still think kb and cardio on the same day are too much.

Gin~ I hope you are feeling better!! I think we posted at the same time this morning. You must really be under the weather to not workout 2 days in a row.

Marcy~Good job with the TGU's! My intensity workouts are about 20 min. From what I have read, HIIT is sprints or energy blasts for 30 seconds and active recovery for about a minute or minute and a half... So I have been doing the HIIT on the treadmill or elliptical, and a 4DS or CTX cardio with blasts in it. The blasts aren't exactly HIIT, but close enough....my workouts have been:
upper body
step hiit (4DS HIS or LIS or CTX step and intervals) or elliptical
lower body
full body cardio (4DS boot camp, or kickbox or DM cardio only)
total body weights
HIIT on the treadmill

Its been working very well for me, with abs 2X a week. I don't build muscle easily either.
The kb dvd's I have are Providence, Newport and the Empire State. They don't have active 1 min. rests, but you can do them. In the beginning of Empire State, they say after you learn the routine, you can fast forward thru the rests. I guess you can also do an active recovery too. Hope that answered your question:eek:

Did you cancel your order? The customer service person answered my email with the same info you posted. So I am canceling today:eek: I just really don't see me using a 3 day split, and if I did, I have GS and PS and S&H And even 4DS which I LOVE, and has all the great premixes! I also don't see me liking the abs dvd, maybe the pilates inspired abs, but I was disappointed about the partner abs workout!! I think we can make a Faux sts that I would be just as happy with- plus, I wasn't liking all the push ups in meso #1 I have gotten better results lately with less.... Does that make sense??

Wow did I write a lot!!LOL

Deanie - Thanks for the article. I printed it out for reference.

I've only been doing about 20 mins. of cardio on the KB days. If eventually I'll be inserting active rests within the workout, it would probably come out to about the same amount of time. I never used to like combining cardio and strength but I feel like this might work for me.

I wouldn't be fast forwarding through the rests (I usually need them and maybe a little extra).

Forgot to mention I had really bad DOMS in my inner thighs all weekend. I'm guessing because you go so much lower in the squats than in other workouts. I think yoga will help with the squats (especially Garland Pose) because you squat down as low as you can with your heels on the ground. Also, chair pose and half lotus toe balance would probably be good too.

The IMAX blasts are close enough for me for HIIT. Maybe because I take longer rests and then my HR goes way back up again. And the KM blasts certainly felt like HIIT. I think the blasts are about a minute and then about 30 second active rests.

I'm off to go look at the blog again re Ab Circuits.

Later.

Tired Tuesday

Good Morning

I am so tired today it took me 30min to get out of bed today  Luckily I was doing 4DS HIS cardio only and abs, and still had enough time to do it all. I did do it on an empty stomach though, since I didn't have time to eat too!!

Gin~ I hope you are feeling better today.

Marcy~ Are you doing yoga today? Did you cancel STS?

Have a great day gals

Good Morning!

I am STILL feeling crummy!:( Just achy, tired, weak, congested, blah! I made myself do 45 min of HSTA which was all I could do. I feel so behind in doing things around the house.
Tonight we are taking ds25 out for his b-day. Can't believe I have a 25 yo!!

Deanie~Do you usually eat before cardio? I can't do that.

Hi Marcy~ What is on tap today?

I'm thinking that I should not have worked out this morning. I feel sooooo yucky. Thanks for listening to me complain!

Have a great day!

Hi Ladies!

This morning I did Erich Schiffmann's Lotus (which I was lucky enough to get from my VF Secret Santa). It was great. Erich's so great at easing you into the poses. I have no problem with it with my left foot on top but on the right side, I've been having a problem with my knee lately. The inner part of the knee hurts if I go too far. I might have to go get it checked out. I might have gone too far when I straightened it. Because of my hyperextended legs, I never feel like I'm fully into the pose or my leg is fully straight unless it's hyperextended. I'm pretty good about pulling up in my quads but I guess that's not enough and I don't know if I sprained it.

Deanie - I usually do cardio on an empty stomach unless I'm totally famished when I wake up. At least you got your workout in. I didn't cancel STS yet but I'm about to. I still kind of want Ab Circuits. Do you know if we can order that separately and how much it was going to be? I was thinking about $20.

Gin - Happy 25th Birthday to your DS! I'm not far behind - my DD will be 22 next month. Enjoy your dinner! Sorry you're still not feeling well.

Have a great day!

Marcy

Hi again

Marcy~ there is a really good thread in the od forum about kb's and a 100+ swing challenge which I am thinking of doing. Maybe we can do it together?

Gin~ sorry you aren't feeling better:( Happy Birthday to DS!! 25- wow, I can't imagine!

Marcy~ we were posting at the same time....I think ab circuits will probably be about 26$ The problem was today I was hungry when I woke up....hope all is okay with your knee.

Deanie - I'm in for the challenge. Here was another challenge I saw:

10 kettlebell swings + 1 Burpee
10 kettlebell swings + 2 Burpees
10 kettlebell swings + 3 Burpees
10 kettlebell swings + 4 Burpees
10 kettlebell swings + 5 Burpees
10 kettlebell swings + 6 Burpees
10 kettlebell swings + 7 Burpees
10 kettlebell swings + 8 Burpees
10 kettlebell swings + 9 Burpees
10 kettlebell swings + 10 Burpees

You must make it under 5 minutes to get your name on the board. So far, the closest we have is 5:15 for the women and 5:20 for the men.

Standard weight is 16kg for women, 24kg for men.

That will get your cardio in. Are we doing 100+ swings every day or just 3x a week?

Gin - Maybe once you're better, you can join us for the challenge.

Marcy

Marcy~ apparently 100 swings wouldn't take us that long, so lets start next week with 100 swings 3X a week (I'm going to add it to my cardio day) and then we can go to 150 or 200? Does that work for you?

I really like your challenge you posted. I'd like to try it, but is it a cardio or weight day? Because I'm thinking cardio, but I know my legs will be getting worked with all the swings..... What weight is 16kg? I'm pretty sure I can do the challenge.....in 25 min!!!:p;)

I think I am going to go to Dicks Sporting Goods this weekend and get a 30# kb. Then I am going to work my way up to it for the swings.

Deanie - 16kg is 35.2#. It's the weight multplied by 2.2.

I guess the burpees are like an "active rest"? Or I guess it's more like a circuit. I don't think it's as much as a full cardio workout so I don't mind doing it in addition to the other cardio.

3x a week is fine for me. Are you going to do 2-arm, 1-arm and alternating?

I'm sure I could match you on the 25 mins.;) but I don't know when I'll be down to 5 mins.

Marcy

Are you going to do 2-arm, 1-arm and alternating?

Marcy

I think I will do the 2 arm, although 1 arm and alternating sounds fun.....

when do you want to start? Thursday or next week? I'm good with either....
I think I will start with the 20# and work my way up!

Deanie - I was actually thinking about starting tomorrow. I'm doing KBs on Mon, Wed and Fri.

Marcy

Wild Wednesday

Good Morning

Today was PLB and the 100 swing challenge. I upped my weights in PLB and got a REALLY good workout. I used my
20# vest again - except for deadlifts. Then I did the 100 swing challenge with a 20# kettlebell. I was able to complete the 100 swings:eek: :D:D!! I think I may be really sore later today!!;)

Stats: ( reps: 12,10,8,6,12)
leg Presses: 35,40,45,50,35
static lunges: 44,50,60 (couldn't figure out how to go up 5# evenly- realized after, I should have used my plate mates:eek:) 65,44
squats/plies: 40,45,50,55,40
deadlifts: 45,50,55,60,45
calf raises: used 2 8# db's and did toes forward, toes out, toes in for the 3 sets

not sure if I made the right decision to add the swings on after the workout, but I wanted to do them on my weight day (?) and with Marcy;) I'm not really sure where they should be added in....on a cardio day, since they definitely get the heart rate up; or a weight day since I am using a kettle bell? I really enjoyed the challenge, and next time I think I will use my 25# kb, though I may not make it to 100 with that!!

I am thinking of going on the AOS website forum and asking questions. It seems I have alot. I am still not sure what I want to do next week. I am really liking the rotation I am doing now and have seen results. I had planned on doing 6 weeks of this rotation and starting kb's in January. But I also would like to start kb'ing but I just don't know the rotation I want with them.....:confused:

Gin~ I hope you are feeling better and when your back is better you can join us in the 100 swings and kbing!! someone in the kettlebell thread on the od forum is also training for a marathon and is running and kb'ing....if you are interested. Did you do a circuit today?

Marcy~ How was your challenge today? and your kb workout? Did you order any dvds? I printed out your challenge with the kb's- let me know when you want to do that;) and in the kettlebell discussion on od forum, there was a great 12 min. ketlebell complex I also printed out. It looks VERY hard and there were 2 exercises I wasn't sure about how to do, but I'd like to try that also.....

Have a great day today!!
Staff meeting after school, so no screamer/crier today:D
