OoOoOo Lets Go...10.19-25 oOoOoO

Good Afternoon!

Did 2 chins last night. This morning I did Flow Yoga with Jennifer Lynn. I thought I was doing the int/adv practice but didn't realize until I was almost done that it was only the beginner flow. This was a nice gentle practice (I guess you would call it restorative?) I decided to preview the int/adv practice and did a few of the poses - side crane:D, warrior 3 and also standing big toe balance with leg to front and side. From watching it I realized I need to get my knees up to my shoulders in crane and not just to my elbows. Maybe that will help me get back to chaturanga from crane (like David Swenson does).

I finally figured out how to print out the STS workout cards (thanks to Deanie's question). I never realized you have to go into the calendar and schedule a workout first.

Deanie - re STS - it's not like STS is all heavy lifting (actually only one month) so you'll basically be doing 1/3 to 1/2 each of endurance and heavy lifting. I hear you about the splits. After comparing this month to last, I was a couple of pounds lighter and felt leaner. If I go below 122, my body fat starts to shoot up. Body fat % has gotten lower with the heavy lifting though. Instead of HIIT, I found that lower impact aerobics/longer (not real long, nothing more than an hour) seems to work better for me. I think next month I might try upper/lower and a full body (or circuit) with cardio and yoga and see how that works for me.

Gin - I'm feeling much better. Thanks for asking. I hope your mother is going to be okay. I think it's a good idea to do your 1RMs Thanksgiving week. You've given me something to think about. I wonder if she's still planning on shipping around mid-December. If she does, you'll be right on schedule as you'll be doing them as close as possible to starting STS. Are you going to want to start STS as soon as you get it?

The pyramid premix sounds good. I think I may have done it once. It might be better for me since it's alternating body parts. I won't need as much rest in between.

I work out on carpet and I have no problem with the paper plates sliding.

Have a great evening!

Marcy

Good Morning!

Today was my usual Friday 3 mile run. It was 44 degrees here, which is cold to me. I wore my long pants, gloves, jacket and then saw another runner go by in shorts and a tank....BRRRR!
I have signed up to run a 5K tomorrow. The course is described as hilly and challenging. I hope I won't be the very last OLD lady huffing and puffing to the finish line. Then I have to have another MRI since the dr ordered the wrong kind last time!
My dad called again last night. My mother has a kidney infection and is just very lethargic. She is not in any pain, though. Still in the hospital. I hate being 4 hours away, but I guess it could be farther.

Marcy~I printed a couple ot the STS workout cards yesterday after you said something about it. I wish I had someone to do it with. Not sure what I need to do. I'm hoping to start STS my Jan. 1, but am also hoping to train for a Half M that takes place at the end of Feb. I'm going to ask Cathe if is a good idea to be doing both at the same time.

Deanie~Will you be doing 20-30 min. cardio now? Please don't cancel your STS order.:( I'm with you on the hour long legs!

What are your weekend plans, girls?
Have a great day!

Good Morning Girlie's :)

Today was PUB/PLB bonus combo. I liked it!! I could have gone heavier on the weight ( I used the same weight as Cathe) but I wasn't sure since I've never done it before. I may work this into the November rotation.

No real weekend plans this weekend, DS8 has a soccer game at 11:30 tomorrow morning and the rest of the weekend is free. DS is off though so that's nice! What are you all doing?

Gin~ I'm glad to hear they know what's wrong with your mom. Is the infection something they can treat at home or does she need to stay in the hospital longer? I am not going to cancel my STS order, but the more I see, the less excited I am about it. I hope that's not the case when we get it. Enjoy the 5K tomorrow!!! I am SURE you will not be the last to come in... and you are no OLD lady!! I personally feel its all downhill after 70ish, so you are still young! (see girlies at the top of the post!!;)) I am going to cut my cardio starting on Sat to 40 min tops with cardio, I also changed the November rotation to reflect that (I know,... what a surprise I changed the rotation!! ;) ) I have learned not to print out the rotations I make up till the very last minute!!LOL

Marcy ~ Glad you enjoyed your practice even though it wasn't what you thought! I've done that!! Maybe you want to join us for the November rotation? My brother is enjoying the X, he bought kenpo on ebay, and said it was really bad and didn't even get his heart rate up. Do you have that? We had an interesting discussion last night about the different ways men and women workout; and how he likes Tony and wouldn't try Cathe:mad: because she is a woman and moves differently. He pointed out some things about form and momentum that made me think I should try the X again- or maybe a faux X with Cathe. he said he thought form was important, but if the last 1 or 2 reps weren't exactly right (weight is really heavy) its okay, you need to really break down the muscle to build it. And then next week the same weight should be okay with all reps or you could challenge yourself with an extra rep or two or up the weight a pound or two. Does that make sense?? A lot of what he said, I had read in "new rules of lifting for women" talking about how men lift better and how we are all caught up in FORM! BTW, that book also emphasized total body workouts for women. I think you are right about STS which is why I'm not canceling, and in the future I could use the endurance month as a stand alone monthly workout.

Wow did I write a book:eek: LOL

have a great day!!

Good Afternoon!

Did Legs & Back today. Legs was a good workout but back is another story. Chins/pulls were pitiful again today. Could it be because its TTOM? Sorry if TMI. I only did one of each and the rest I only went up 1/4-3/4 of the way. I was doing so much better with them last month when I did them almost everyday. I feel like I lost all the progress I was making.

Deanie - So did you decide whether or not you're donig the turbulence training? I saw your post to Debbie. I was also suprised there were no chins or pulls. I won't be doing the November rotation but might try the PUB/PLB bonus combo and maybe try the cardio from Barry's Bootcamp. They've been sitting on my shelf for months and they have treadmill type stuff done without the treadmill (I think!)

I have both Kenpos - the original and the one from X Plus. My HR didn't go up a lot either. I liked Kenpo X+ better. It's shorter but I think a little higher impact. I would have to look at it again. I did like all the blocking drills he did. Similar to Cardio Kicks. As far as Cathe vs. Tony, Tony does more basic drill type stuff which I think is more of a guy thing rather than Cathe who does more choreographed stuff. I like the X because of the push-pull method. I need more rests with Cathe. I think STS will be more like the X in that she's also doing push-pull so hopefully STS is going to work for me. I liked the legs clip but I feel like a lot of the upper body exercises are all exercises she's done in so many of her other workouts. I don't think you should ignore form but I'm sure one or two reps without perfect form won't hurt too much unless your form is really suffering in which case you don't want to injure yourself.

Have you started your 1RMs yet? No real weekend plans yet. Dance class on Sunday - Nightclub 2. DH and I might go to the car races tomorrow. I guess we'll see how the weather is. I don't hold up too well standing out in the cold!

Gin - It's cold here too. Only 54 today. At least they figured out what's wrong with your mother. Good luck with the 5K tomorrow. Hills are tough but I'm sure you'll do fine considering all the running that you do.

If Deanie wrote a book, I guess I just wrote the sequel! Have a great weekend!

Marcy

Hi again

Marcy ~ Sorry about the chins/pulls today. I do think TOM makes a difference. You use your ab muscles with the chins/pulls and with TOM they just aren't there:confused:!! I have decided not to do the turbulence training. I really want to, but I really need someone to watch and to keep me in line. I am worried my form would suffer or I'm not doing the exercises correctly or I would lose count!! and end up doing 26 instead of 20 or 26 instead of 30!! I am disappointed though because I think it could be a great way to workout and it would be a "shock to my body". I did ask Cathe to do a new dvd with turb. training in the new workout ideas forum:p I did start my 1 rms, but I am waiting till closer to STS so I will be more accurate. Alot of the rms I got off of my workout sheets from when I did PS. Nightclub 2 sounds fun!! Have a good time!

Gin~ good luck with the MRI!!

Have a great weekend!

Good Afternoon Girls!

Well, it has to be a REALLY small race for me to place and I did :p, but with a slow time! I came in 2nd in my age group with a slow time of 31 min. I have to say it was a a somewhat challenging course with lots of hills and then another runner said he was sure it was farther than 3.1 miles. I met a woman at the start that said she came in first last week at another 5K with a time of 24 min. This race she came in with 28 min. So there are all my excuses!;)
Then I had to have my MRI re-do.

My mother has been moved to ICU. They don't know what is wrong besides a kidney infection. My dad assured me that I shouldn't come and I am listening to him and hoping I made the right decision.

Marcy~My ds21 "looked" at one of the Cathe workouts, but I think it was the music that turned him off. I guess there is a "dancy" feel even with weights. Did you go to the car races? Enjoy the dance class tomorrow night. It sounds like fun.

Deanie~What was your workout today? I made a note of your changes to the Nov. rotation. It looks like you are trying shorter cardio segments. Glad you enjoyed the PUB/PLB combo. I liked it for a change. How was ds's soccer game today?

Off to do Classical Stretch and we are going to a football game this aft.
Have a great day!:)

Good Afternoon

Today I did HIIT on the treadmill and LIC abs. I couldn't remember what level I did the HIIT on before (its been almost 2 months) so I did level 10. I will do level 11 next time:p

Gin~ I hope your mom is doing okay. I think its good your dad said you don't need to come up! Great job on the run today!! I knew you would place!!:) :)

Marcy ~ I hope you got out and had fun today!! Hope dance is fun tonight- do the Hustle for me!(love that dance!!);)

DS8s team won the soccer game. It was tied score so we , then had sudden death, no one scored so we went into penalty shots!! Not only was it a VERY exciting game, but it was raining cats and dogs from the 4th quarter on!! We were drenched but happy ;)

Have a great Weekend!
