Good Morning

No workout for me today, resting :)
I did do the elliptical yesterday for 20 min, with a preprogrammed workout.

Gin ~ I hope you are having a great time at the reunion. Can't wait to hear about it!!

Marcy ~ I hope you are having a fun weekend. the weather turned here, and its cold! 58 degrees today. Is it still warm where you are in Ga?

Have a great day!

Happy Sunday Girls!

Got home for Houston this aft and just finished Classical Stretch (rest day). Yesterday was PUB before I left. Glad to have survived the endless # of bicep curls!! And I have the DOMS today to prove it!
Reunion was fun. I saw people there that I had not seen since elementary school. Some looked just the same only their hair was different and with some I had to look on their name tag to know who they were!! Overall ,most looked good!:)

Deanie~Hope you had a good weekend and enjoyed your rest day.
Is 58 the high temp there? That has been our low lately and then it gets up to the 80's in the aft.

Marcy~How was your weekend?

"See" you girls tomorrow!:)

ETA: Okay, that did not make sense to say that some people I had not seen since elem. school!! Ding Dong! I'm sure I did see them in HS since it WAS a HS reunion!

Monday

Good Monday Morning !

Today is CTX upper. Yes, I changed the rotation again!!:eek: I am really enjoying the CTX upper and LL workouts, and I am seeing some definition, so I am continuing the workouts all month. I don't like endurance as much as the heavy lifting, but my body seems to respond better to it. (I also just read an article in Figure Athlete that said for women, endurance - 3 total body workouts a week, or 1 upper, 1 lower and one total body workout a week) an is really key for a long lean look) So I am going to do another month of endurance, and then Cathe's Oct. rotation in Dec. (or the turbulance training, still thinking about that one!!)

Gin~ I am so glad you had fun at the reunion!!:D Did most people recognize you? Good job with PUB. I really like that workout, but dread the bicep work.:p

Marcy ~ I hope you had a nice weekend!! How are the chin ups/pull ups coming?

Good Morning!

Today was my usual Monday 3 mile run. If I have the energy this aft, I'll do DM cardio.

Deanie~I'll join you for another month of the same, but not sure I want to do the turbulence month. I think most people recognized me at the reunion. It was a big class......over 700, but only around 150-200 there.

Hi Marcy!

Gotta run...I'm late........

Yeah! I'm glad you are enjoying the rotation Gin!
Here is the link to the article I read:
http://www.figureathlete.com/readArticle.do?id=2358214

with that in mind, I worked up the following rotation:

Wednesday: PP lower body X3
Thursday: CK

Sunday: off

Week 2:
Monday: PP upper body X3
Tuesday: The Gauntlet cardio only - abs
Wednesday: PP lower body X3
Thursday: DM scrambled cardio - abs
Friday: ME
Saturday: elliptical
Sunday: off

Week 3:
Monday: PP upper body X3
Tuesday: 4DS HIS/LIS cardio only - abs
Wednesday: PP lower body X3
Thursday: 4DS kickbox/ bootcamp cardio only

Wednesday: PP lower body X3
Thursday: KPC - abs
Friday: ME
Saturday: elliptical
Sunday: off

Good Afternoon Ladies!

I decided to do P90X for the rest of my rotation. I did Chest & Back today (but only a halfsie) and Ab Ripper X:

Standard Pushups: 30
Wide Front Pullups (a real disaster! I attempted 5 and only got up halfway, if that much - these were always the hardest for me, I think it took 2 rounds of the X just to do 1)
Military Pushups: 18
Reverse Grip Chinups: 1 (I guess I have to keep up with these more regularly otherwise I lose all strength for them)
Wide Fly Pushups: 21
Closed Grip Overhand Pullups: 1 1/2
Decline Pushups: 21
Heavy Pants: 8 reps @ 33.8#
Diamond Pushups: 21
Lawnmowers: 8 reps at 33.8#
Dive-Bomber Pushups: 10 (These always seem to start out easy but I wind up tiring easily)
Back Flys: 12 reps at 15# - could've gone higher - forgot to check what I did last time.

Went to a dance on Sat. night and danced my a$$ off for over 3 hours. Made up for the fact that I overate on Friday.

Deanie - The weather here has turned cold too. It was 45 degrees early in the morning but is going up to hi-60s. My first day wearing a coat to work. I'll have to go read the article but even though I also like heavy lifting more, I found I had a leaner look the last couple of months when I was doing Squeeze/Pure Barre. I might do them again and add a circuit workout each week along with a cardio and a yoga and my dancing. Hopefully we'll all still do Cathe's Oct. rotation in December.

Gin - Glad you enjoyed the reunion and that you survived PUB! It's nice that most people recognized you. Someone mentioned in OD that instead of doing PUB as is she did the last 2 rounds heavy so that it was:

12 reps at lightest
10 reps at medium
8 reps at heavy
8 reps at heavy; and
8 reps at heavy

I'm thinking about doing that in Dec's rotation. Aside from the fact that I hate changing weights, I think the problem I have with PUB is that I need a lot more rest between sets and she goes so fast with no rest in between.

Tonight on DWTS is Hustle, Jitterbug, Salsa and West Coast Swing. I've now done all of them in my classes so it will be interesting to watch for me. I actually haven't done Jitterbug but East Coast Swing came from the Jitterbug so close enough. Hustle is the easiest out of the bunch so whoever gets that will be lucky.

Have a great evening!

Marcy

Hey Marcy! I was thinking of doing a month of PUB/PLB this way:
12 reps
10 reps
8 reps - heavy
6 reps heaviest
12 reps
this is the way BFL wants you to do a pyramid. I like it. Needless to say, I changed my mind, but I think this also is a fun way to change up the pyramids.
^5 for the workout, I think you did great!! I am still considering turbualnce training, but I will do Cathe's Oct. rotation in Dec. with you guys!

Marcy/Gin ~ Enjoy your show tonight!! I will be watching Chuck (love that show!!:))

Thanks, Deanie! Your is also an interesting option for Pyramids. Now I have to go back and check your thread on turbulence training.

Marcy

Hi Again!

Just have to report that I just finished DM drills. And just in time to watch DWTS.:p
One of the teachers at school has heard me talk about Cathe and wants to borrow one of my dvds. I really think she will return it soon. She wanted one that has both cardio and weights, so I thought of DM.
I signed up today for a 5K on Sat at school. I haven't done a race in ages.

Deanie~I read the article and it was interesting. Thanks. Thanks also for the Nov. rotation. It looks good. Have you decided what you will do? In your pyramid system, what are you lifting in the first 2 sets and last set?

Marcy~Great workout girl!:) I am watching DWTS as I type and I have to say I am so impresssed that Cloris L. can move like she does at her age!! I would love to be like that if I live to 83!

See you girls tomorrow!

totally Tuesday

Good Morning

Today is DM drills. I am going to do the scrambled cardio and then LIC abs.

I am off today :)!! So I am going into DS8's school to help the teacher with science, go food shopping, and DS12 has a softball game at 3! I also neeed to cook my lunch (spinach pie) at some point! I hope I get it all done, food shopping may have to wait till tomorrow.

Gin~ WTG with the late day/evening workout!! You are dedicated!!:)A friend of mine wanted to try Cathe and ended up getting DM too. Good choice. Have fun with the 5K. Is that 3miles? that should be a breeze for you:)....I am going to do the above rotation for November. I am not going to do PPX3 as a pyramid, I'm just going to use the same weight for all 3 sets. I was thinking of doing the Pyramids like I posted a while ago, but changed my mind. But if I did I would do 12 reps with the lightest weight, 10 reps heavier, 8 reps heavier still, and 6 reps heaviest and then do the last 12 reps with the lightest. Are you thinking of doing the pyramids this way? If you do, let us know if you like it.

Marcy ~ Hope you had a nice evening. What did you think of the tt workout?

Have a great day!!

after workout

Okay, finished my workout. :D
Ended up doing DM scrambled cardio, and added on Drill #1 at the end, then did LIC abs. For the abs I inserted side planks, alternating sides, when Cathe did oblique work. Great ab work, I really like the abs on LIC yet for some reason don't do them often (forget about them) I have to do them more!!!

Good Morning!

Just finished PLB. During the standing portion, I think I am as sweaty as when I do a cardio workout!:p TMI?? I guess my HR is elevated.
The K teacher I work with told me that her trainer doesn't want her HR to go above 135. That seems low to me. She just started working out 1 month ago. Could that be the reason?

Deanie~Enjoy your day off. Sounds so nice to me. I miss having my Wed. off like a did last year!:( I don't think I will do the pyramid system. I'm better off just following the exercise as is. The 5K is 3 miles, which is what I run on Mon and Fri, but I am so slow. I don't want to be the old lady that comes in last!! I think I will do HCE#2 tomorrow instead of #3 (with more legs). HCE is the very toughest workout for me!!

Marcy~Who did you like on DWTS? My favs were Brooke (as usual) and Cody. I think Susan Lucci needs to go. She looks so stiff.

Have a great day!

Good Afternoon Ladies!

I got a surprise when I came home last night - my new Tracey's! Naturally, I had to do Tracey's Steady State Step this morning. I really liked it - a good, solid 55 min. step routine. A few moves reminded me of Low Max but this was actually more complex than Rhythmic Step but still doable. Lots of reverse mambos (but not like Low Max - she has you facing the back wall but in front of the step and tapping the step behind you rather than in front - I hope I explained that right!) There were actually a couple of different reverse mambos. The one she did in the beginning pretty much had me stumped through most of the workout. I couldn't do the whole thing because I don't know if I was getting sick or had an allergic reaction but my throat really hurt and airways closed up so had to stop after about 40 mins. but I still got a good workout in. It was probably my allergies because I took a Zyrtec earlier and am breathing much better.

Deanie - I think the banana is the best move on LIC abs - most effective for me, anyway. Spinach pie sounds real good! Great articles you posted. I kind of agree with the "bikini body" article and so I'm back to more endurance work next month. Turbulence training sounds good but I find it hard to go it alone and do much better following someone. Too bad we all don't live closer so we could do it all together. Good luck to your DS today!

Gin - Really liked the two jitterbugs last night. Really disappointed with Toni - she really bored me the last couple of weeks. I don't think Maurice did as well as the judges said he did. I think Susan's doing a slight bit better - I agree she's still looking stiff but I wonder if she's still playing it safe because of her injury. I think she did best with the tango - maybe because it calls for you to be a little more stiff. I thought Cloris did pretty well. I think when she gets a little more serious, she gets a lot more accomplished. I admit Lacey really upstaged Lance last night but I still think they're a great couple and will probably be in the top 3. I also thought Warren was very entertaining.

HR of 135 is definitely too low. That's usually the bottom number in my cardio workouts. I don't use my HRM anymore but my high was about 180.

Good luck with your 5K!

Have a great afternoon!

Marcy

Good Morning!

Just finished HCE#2. I was feeling just fine until the KM Blast Challenge and then I was pooped, ran out of steam and had to modify. I still burned 492 calories.
Yesterday I tried pullups on the monkey bar at school when we were out on the playground (crazy, I know!!), but I was able to do 3 of them and they seemed easier than my bar in the doorway at home.:)

Deanie~How was it helping the teacher at ds's school? I'm sure she appreciated it! How was ds's softball game? Do you have school today?

Marcy~I was surpried to see Toni go home last night on DWTS. I wasn't able to watch all of it, but did see the elimination. Glad you enjoyed Tracey's new step dvd. She is really cranking them out it seems. You know she is expecting a baby. Not sure when her due date is.....March? How are you feeling todya? Better, I hope. My HR will also get up to 180.

Have a great day!

Wednesday

Good Morning

Today was LL. I only raised the weight on the leg presses and the one legged squats. This is a challenging workout for me even with a 35# BB!! I really sweated it out today!! (sorry if TMI!) ;) I'm thinking its because I am really concentrating on form!

I saw the new STS preview on Youtube. Looks great, but reminds me why I don't like working my legs for a full hour or more:p The new workout manager software looks great too. I like using the calender and being able to download the rotations will be great.

No school for me today. I am having a lazy morning and then off to the Library and Target!

Gin~ I enjoyed going in a helping out at DSs school yesterday. Its mostly nice just to see whats going on in my DS's class with the kids and all. DS12's team lost again yesterday:(. At least DS is having fun. Great job with the chin ups!!!! I agree with it being easier than a door bar. I think having something stable really makes a difference. (as opposed to a swinging bar (me) or a door bar that "could" fall down!!)

Marcy ~ "Turbulence training sounds good but I find it hard to go it alone and do much better following someone. Too bad we all don't live closer so we could do it all together." I couldn't have said it better myself!!;) I so want to try TT, but know I'd never get thru all 4 weeks with out an instructor "guiding" me. Yea!!! to your new tapes:) sounds like you enjoyed the new workout. I hope you are feeling better, and your breathing issue was just your allergies.

Have a great day,
I'll try and check back in later!

Good Afternoon Ladies!

Today was P90X Shoulders & Arms. Before that, I did 2 chins.
I started late so didn't do 2 full rounds of everything and skipped the bonus. Also, no ARX.

Alternating Shoulder Presses: 2 sets at 18.4#, 8 reps
In & Out Bicep Curls: Set 1: 16 reps @ 16.4#; Set 2: 12 reps @ 16.4#
2-Arm Tricep Kickbacks: Set 1: 9 reps @ 18.4#; Set 2: 13 reps @ 16.4#
Deep Swimmer's Press: 8 reps @ 16.4#
Full Supination Concentration Curls: 8 reps @ 16.4#
Chair Dips: 25 with straight legs
Upright Rows: 10 reps @ 18.4#
Static Arm Curls: 16 reps @ 16.4#
Flip-Grip Twist Tricep Kickbacks: 8 reps @ 16.4#
Two-Angle Shoulder Flys: 16 reps @ 13.4#
Crouching Cohen Curls: 10 reps @ 16.4# (these were always really tough for me but they felt good today)
Lying-Down Tricep Extensions: 12 reps @ 16.4#

I guess it was an allergic reaction yesterday because I feel much better today.

I guess I should start downloading all the worksheets (work is slow these days!)

I realize why P90X works for me. Push/pull really makes a difference. With Cathe, I need to rest so much more between sets but because he rotates body parts, I can move through the workout much quicker and still give it my all.

Gin - Great job on the pullups! I feel truly victorious when I do pullups. I'm sure you did too. I can't say I was surprised that Toni went home. I didn't vote for her and actually think she's gotten worse than when she started. (I actually really liked her when she started but she's gotten real boring.) Not that Susan isn't boring as well. If she'd just come out like the spitfire she is as Erica Kane, then maybe she would have a chance.

Great workout! That's about the same calorie burn I had doing HCE#2.

Deanie - Sorry about DS's game:( Hope he has better luck next time. I liked the Meso 1 Legs clip. The 1-leg deadlifts are what Mindy does in All About Legs Med Ball. I like leg work with balance challenges in them.

Have a great day!

Marcy

Thursday

Good Morning

Today was LIC cardio only. It was fun, but I was so tired and it was hard to get out of bed today!!! Back to work for me today.

Gin ~ Did you do the bonus combo for PUB/PLB today? I am looking forward to doing that tomorrow. I've never done it before.

Marcy ~ glad you are feeling better. What cardio did you do today?

Have a great day... its almost friday!!!:)

Good Morning!

Just finished PUB/PLB combo premix. I had never done that one before either. She alternates with 2 lower sections, then 2 upper, etc. and only does pyramid up for a total of 53 min. It was good for something different. Abs were not included so I may do abs and SM this aft.

My dad called last night and my mother is in the hospital again. She fainted and they called an ambulance.

I am thinking about taking the week of Thanksgiving to concentrate on doing my 1rm. We have the whole week off.

I looked a the new STS clip yesterday. YOWZA! My legs are burning already! If I workout on carpet, will I use a plate to slide?

Deanie~Was that your "fall break" this week then you had days off? We just had last Monday off. I do get next Wed off when the lead teachers have Parent Conferences. :D

Marcy~How are you feeling?

Have a great day!

Hi again

Gin ~ I am sorry to hear about your mom. I hope she is okay. Please keep us posted.
It was not my fall break this week, just the Jewish holidays that I get off since I work in the Jewish nursery school. Nice that you are off on the parent teacher conferences day- I wish I was too! I work out on carpet, and I have tried paper plates and I was fine. My carpet is a Berber so it is a tight knit carpet, that may make a difference. We went to Home Depot years ago, and got a remnant carpet for the basement workout room.

I really am on the fence with STS- I know I won't cancel my order, but it seems everything I am reading lately says women should lean towards full body workouts, or upper/lower body splits and one fbw a week. For me, they seem to work better than the 3 day splits (although I do like the splits- but HATE the hour long legs!!) Also, I am finding endurance seems to work best for me. Going forward, I plan to do 2-3 months of endurance, and one month of heavy lifting. Not only does this work best for me, but I think I burn myself out on the heavy lifting. Also FYI (in case you all care- ;) ), I am planning, going forward doing more HIIT/shorter cardio. I have started reading articles at Fitness Athlete, and while some are far off the mark for me, some make sense. ... and are interesting.... And they all seem to agree- the old way of thinking of cardio- longer is better- is no longer the case. Since I am not a fan of cardio, I'm going to jump on that band wagon!! LOL ;)

Waves to Marcy!!

Lovin' the spell check!!:):)
