I gotta tell ya!

I am new at doing Cathe. Soooooo new I started tonight. I did about 10 min of MIS for the first time and I was knocked off my feet!

I am about 150 lbs overweight. My goal is to reach 135 someday! :) I watched MIS several times (about 5 times) to get an idea of what I'm in for and an idea of how much I can do. I know my limits - that's why I stopped at 10 minutes. I know I gotta do this slow so I don't get discouraged or anything. I know at some point - I will be able to do more - but I'm taking 1 step at a time.

I plan on doing MIS (what I can anyways) and Cardo 3 times a week. For Cardo (and please don't laugh) ;-) I'll be doing Susan Powter Burn Fat and Get Fit. I figured for a newbie - that would be a good Cardo tape to start out with and besides - it was free since I got it from one of my sisters. ;-)

As I get more fit I will chose something more advanced.

Wish me luck!

Hi Kali!!! <I just love your name!!> I'm sooo happy for you! Doing even 10 min. of MIS is quite an accomplishment! You ought to be very proud of yourself. For cardio, I think you are very, very smart for starting with a more "beginner" type of tape, i.e. Susan Powter. No shame in that at all. In no time you'll be progressing to other Cathe tapes, and we'll be here cheering you on. Have you done any reading of backposts? You will be very inspired by getnfit@38 here on the boards!

I wish you the best, and please keep us posted on your Cathe progress. :)

RE: Welcome, Kali!

So good to have you "on board"! I too may have some videos that would be good for a novice cardio exerciser; I'll check at home tonight and let you know tomorrow - if you're interested, we can coordinate and I can mail them to you.

You're exactly right in starting simply and working your way up the intensity and duration food chain. The beauty of the human body is its ability to adapt consistently to increased demands, and to continually improve if you are consistent and well-balanced with your exercise program!

These Cathe forums, also, are a wonderful place to visit for information, motivation and cameraderie! Warning, however - we're great at spending your money for you, so ask for video/DVD workout recommendations at your own risk!

That is an awesome step you are taking. You are trying to change alot about yourself all at once.i think as a newbie you need to start off slow and then as the weight starts to come off and you get more fit you can increase everything. If you do that with a healthy eating plan I think the pounds will not much probably comming off.Expecially when you get into Cathe tapes.
What you can do when you get pass the leg work (which is probably the first 20 min of the video). Then you can try working one body part a day, from the tape, and I don't think that would be much more then 10 min.If not less.Myabe you should start walking to.Walking is a great work out.
Two of the ladies I work with went on a diet. One dropped out after 2 weeks b/c she wasn't losing anything.(she told me that she wasn't really trying either)While the other one started eating sensible meals and started wealking. In about 4 monthes she had 20 pounds gone. The two go hand in hand. Now, mind you after x-mas she figured she could do it by herself(she was going to WW) and now she has 10 pounds back on.She stopped walking and I think she probably forgot that this is a life time change not just something you can do for a couple of monthes.
Good luck to you, keep us posted on how you are doing.

Congratulations!!!!!! You can do it! And you are so extra-smart to know to take your time and go slow. You have WISDOM!
2 cents on cardio: Try Fat Burning for Dummies video with Gay Gasper. It's easy, fun, and doable. I have used it on my light days and really enjoyed it. Something you might want to try is, doing a little bit of every body part for a couple of weeks. For instance, one set of one exercise for each body part. Then, the next time you do the workout, do another set of another exercise for each body part. you could also break up the whole tape over a week (which is probably what you are planning on doing anyway :) ) Anyway, good luck, and keep us up to date on all your progress!!! I'm so excited for you. It's a WHOLE NEW world.

RE: Go Kali!

Keep going. I watched this tape a ton of times too and it kicked my butt. That was 5 months ago. Now I can do it! You will be able to as well! Can't wait to read more of your posts! Have fun!

THANKS!

LAST EDITED ON Aug-13-02 AT 11:49PM (Est)[p]Thanks everone for your encouragement. I can't tell you how that makes me feel. I was a little sore this morning but that was expected of course. I did my cardo as well. I feel so excited about this and I can't wait to see some changes. I've been reading the archives and made notes like crazy. From those suggestions....I already have in mind which Cathe tapes to buy next!!

Thanks to those who offered tapes! I need to go through my collection and see what I have but email me at [email protected] and I'll let you know! It was sooo sweet of you to offer!!

I like the idea of doing a little bit of every body part. I'll try that tomorrow! Thanks Kathy!

I got to add this....I haven't been tired today. I usually get that way by mid day and I wasn't today. That was such a switch! I LOVE IT!!! :-jumpy

RE: THANKS!

What sort of weight lifting experience do you have prior to attempting MIS? Just need a little more info to make any suggestions.
