Online body fat test

The only way to get a relatively accurate measurement is to use skinfold calipers (used by an experienced person) or an underwater weighing. According to my measurements at the website above, my BF is 24%, but I haven't had my DH check mine lately. This is a rough estimate and is a good guide to let you know if you are going up or down, but I'm not certain how off it is from more accurate methods. If someone else has had theirs checked recently, I hope they post! I'll get mine checked and repost the difference later today!

Tricia,
Thanks so much... I don't have another way to measure body fat right now and just want to know if the online test is even in the ballpark.
Anybody else? The test only takes a couple of minutes and if you already know your percentage number it would be so helpful to compare.

I just happened to have my bodyfat checked by one of those hand-held machines last week at the health club. And had my measurements taken. This online tool had me 1% lower than the handheld tool at the gym. (26 vs 25).

I'm pear shaped with more weight below the waist (hips, thighs, calves). I don't know if an apple shape would be as accurate since they only ask about lower body measurements and the wrist.

This had me at 25% and I had one done at my doc's office a month ago and at the gym last week -- both of those were 17%. I don't know how with just a measurement around and no way of knowing how much of that "around" is fat and how much is muscle, this could be accurate. I have very muscluar legs (I squat 165lbs) and while they are big around, they are not as fatty as this calculation shows. Does that make sense? I think calipurs or hyrdostatic tank give you your best result. (BTW -- the doc office that did mine was a sports doctor and they do these tests all the time.)

Thank you ladies! Hmmmm..... Seems a bit inconsistent, doesn't it?
Lorrie- It does say that if you are very fit it might give an inaccurate reading, so maybe that is what is happening to you.
My reading is 30.8% so I am in no immediate danger of falling into that category. Since my goal is to hit around 25% maybe it can be useful to me until then. Cindi1 got a fairly accurate reading at that %... I wonder if Tricia ever got her DH to retest her % with the calipers... Tricia?

It is off - but not toooo bad. Mine is saying 21.6 and I am about 17%. I am a certified PT and measure people all the time. Calipers are known to have an error of measurement in either direction as high as 3-5% I hope my skinfold caliper is correct! I have a digital one and a regular one.

Interesting tool though! ;) Thx!

Clarissa
