I am very lucky to be married to a man like that. He is deputy chief on our fire department in addition to having a "real job". Early on in our relationship we enacted a don't ask/don't tell policy for what he does as a fire fighter so I don't really know all of the details.
One day I was sick and he was going to meet friends for lunch for their birthday. When he came home and was telling me about his day he started the story by saying he was late to lunch. I was really frustrated with him because he is always late which I find endlessly irritating (I am one of those people who is always 10 minutes early). Then he continued his story, he was late because he stopped a woman from committing suicide by jumping off the bridge onto the highway.
The people who have it in them to help people in such an amazing way always inspire me to be a better person.
