One of the happiest and saddest days of my life today

Jerry,

My heart goes out to you. My MIL also has dementia and has gone down hill fast over the past year. She is not even 70 yet. My husband and I are struggling with this as well. We don't want to take her freedom away by putting her in assisted living but on the other hand it maybe better for her in the long run. Hugs from someone who knows.

Therese,

My heart goes out to you as well. Myself and my wife were more than relieved when my mom said she was ready to be admitted, she is still "with it" enough to know that she can no longer handle the demands of independent living. Hopefully your MIL will realize the same and make this decision easier.

Jerry,
That really is a heartwarming story. My Grandmother has been suffering from Dementia for about 8 years now. My Mom, Dad, and Grandfather finally had to move her into an assisted living center when they found her walking down Main street in a very, very busy area not knowing who she was or where she was. She now can not speak, doesn't know who my Mom (her daughter), my Grandfather, or anyone else is. It's been so sad to watch her go downhill like that.

I'm glad you've found a wonderful place for your mother. Best wishes to you, your wife and everyone else in your situation. This is not an easy thing to endure.

Thanks Jerry, it nice to know that we are not the only one going threw these kind of difficult situations.

Thanks,

Therese
