Cathlete
This should have been fairly obvious to me, but not surprisingly, it just dawned on me that all of the people I now call friend are all people whom I have met through some form of fitness, be it here with Cathe, or some of the people I've gotten to now through some of my other fitness activities.
If I couldn't get ahold of DW in an emergency, the first two people I'd contact would be Gayle and Ellie from these very forums, I'd trust the two of them with my life, if need be, and wouldn't think twice about it.
I really have no regrets in my life, I do believe things happen for a reason...heck, I even met DW at a sportsbar during my drinking days!!
My battle with depression, heck, even that played a role in my improved lifestyle, I never really took fitness very seriously until I read an article where the term "Exercise is the enemy of depression" jumped out at me in HUGE letters.
Most who know me know I am a geeky addict when it comes to everything Disney, from Disney World to reading everything about Walt himself, and one of his quotes really hits home with me..."I think it's important to have a good, hard, failure in life"...I've had a few of these....and while they all sucked, they helped shape me, and put me where I am today, a place I wouldn't trade for anything.
So, friends through fitness?? I'm sold on that as another benefit!
